Great video! I find it quite amusing that fountain pen inks, just like for cars, very often do not use only normal names for their color, like Opaque Light Green instead of just Green, but here we see Lamy who calls a red ink, red, a black ink, black... so refreshing!
I have been using only Lamy inks for many years and very happy with their products. The blue, blue-black and turquoise mix well to make my favorite custom colors.
Maybe it's just because Lamy inks seem to be too "normal" for some fountain pen and ink enthusiasts or the brand reminds them too much of school pens and inks. So when they really get into the fountain pen hobby and start collecting the "better" and more expensive pens they also want something more exclusive as an ink. That might be the answer why Lamy inks seem to be underrated.
Hi Dave! You're absolutely correct: they do seem to be a bit underrated and I've found them to really good inks, not to mention very reasonably priced. I have Lamy Turquoise & Turmaline; both are lovely & flow very well out every pen I've inked with them. Love their bottles as well. Thanks as always! 😊
I believe that the main reason Lamy bottled inks are not popular is that they are already available in cartridge. I already have all these colors except from the pink one in cartridge form. The Turquoise is the only color that I really like and ink it often. I do love the Crystal Azurite and looking forward to trying more from this ink line.
A LOT of people use lamy inks; it's just that the consumers that do buy it are utilitarian about their inks- not hobbyists. They buy Lamy ink because they need *an* ink for their pen but not any special ink in particular. This also explains how most of the ink Lamy sells is in either black, blue, or red and in cartridges.
I gravitate towards more blue inks and I've loved the Lamy Blue for years. It's one of those inks where I don't mind using the cartridge provided with the pen. I honestly enjoy Lamy Turquoise more than the Kon Peki. Cheers!
Lamy Blue is my ink of the month for April! I got a new Safari and wanted to empty the cartridge for refilling. As it is, I may just refill it with more Lamy Blue, because it really is lovely and well-behaved! The only other Lamy ink I have is Lamy Bronze, which I don’t often use. I may have to sample some of their other colors to see what works well with my frequently used pens. Thanks for showcasing these!
I agree with you. I love Lamy inks. I use them a lot, more than I do other ink brands, except Noodler’s Black,Antietam and Brown. I wish Lamy would come out with a brown.
You are missing some fabulous colors like Lamy Beryl and Benitoite and turmaline Azurite which is my personal favorite. Of these colors you showed I love the vibrant pink and green the best! Great review as always! Can’t wait for the next Lamy ink comparison you do!
I do agree the Lamy inks are great. I like most of the special edition inks to, maybe except from the Bronze and Mango that were a little boring to me. When you have had the Turquoise in a pen for a while you can get amazing red sheen. Don´t know if its reaction to oxygen or the fact that it gets more saturated after some dehydration that makes this.
I like Lamy Blue, I have a couple of cartridges, but I'm not sure it has enough going for it to warrant the purchase of a bottle. I have Lamy Crystal Rhodonite which I think is very similar to Vibrant Pink, and it is a nice pink which I also recommend. Lamy Red is one of the few inks (or the only one) that I actually regret buying, I never use it.
I'm noticing that the turquoise looks (at least to me) really similar to Diamine Havasu Turquoise (my current turquoise ink.) Have you noticed anything similar? (Also, if you want a pitch black ink, even in the finer, dryer nibs, I've had good success with Noodler's Heart of Darkness. Pitch black to me, no shading, sheen, or anything other than water resistant.)
I'm thinking of getting a different coloured ink each time one ink bottle runs out and Lamy has lots of colour so it will keep me entertained for months
Hi Beth, it's a 3D printed pen made by William Shakour in the UK called the Titan dip pen. I have a review of two of his Titan's at ua-cam.com/video/2lJrH6Y4Ebw/v-deo.html and another one at ua-cam.com/video/dweMrPGta5s/v-deo.html

I adore the Lamy inks, personally turquoise is my favorite for its sheen and shading!
I like Lamy inks. The turquoise and black are particular favorites.
Thank you for making these ink comparisons. They have been exceptionally helpful. Please keep them coming.

Great video. Thanks Dave. Love the turquoise!
I agree they are underestimated. I have the Vibrant Pink, can you see on the bottom of the bottle, shimmer particles? Thank you Dave🎨
You can but not nearly as much as you would in say a Diamine Shimmer bottle as the amount of particulate they add is very small in comparison.
There is a slight gold sheen when pooled too.
I am quite a fan of turquoise inks (currently use Pineider), and will have to look into this! - Thanks Dave

You could be right there.
Love my Lamy vibrant pink! Mine does have a bit of sheen, but I have to shake the bottle a bit first
I like how they come with the blotting paper, I just have their black, but thinking about getting another color
Yeah the blotting paper is a nice touch, it's more for cleaning the nib or section off I believe.
Lamy Turmaline and Lamy Crystal Obsidian are on my favourite inks list ^_^
Will you please do a Kaweco Inks comparison?

I do like Lamy inks, I have all of them. The best nice red tint turquoise is Amazonite. For me it is one of their nicest colours!
I agree with you. I love Lamy inks. I use them a lot, more than I do other ink brands, except Noodler’s Black,Antietam and Brown. I wish Lamy would come out with a brown.
Lamy inks are underrated indeed. I have the Lamy black and it's excellent

Awesome comparison 👏
What's the roll under the bottle for?
That black plastic contants a roll of paper that you can tear off and use to clean off your nib with.
I thought it was a blotter.

I haven't tried Diamine Havasu Turquoise but from what I have seen of ink swatches online it looks similar.
I'm thinking of getting a different coloured ink each time one ink bottle runs out and Lamy has lots of colour so it will keep me entertained for months
Not a fan of pink inks, but I kinda liked that Vibrant Pink.
I bought red ink it looks like the lamy vibrant pink
What’s the dip pen you’re using? I’ve never seen something like that!
Hi Beth, it's a 3D printed pen made by William Shakour in the UK called the Titan dip pen.

Okay, sure. But one question remains unanswered: are these inks underrated?
I think if Lamy named their inks with less generic names they might sell better.
I think you're right.
Why doesn't Lamy have names for their inks?
I have wondered that too. I don't know why Lamy don't name their inks, I think they have on their more exotic inks but not their regular line of inks.
