His story quest is about survivor's guilt and if you knew someone in real life who has that, you damn sure its atleast associated with depression. Also, the game isn't really the best in portraying emotions because of high demands in animation. You can notice this in other cutscenes where a character's facial expression is a bit off or plain weird. I just focus more on the dialogue because the voice actors compensate it there.

The main reason Stanley is depressed is because he believes it was because of his rookie mistakes that his friend had to pay with his life. But Venti didn't make any mistakes as far as we know, his friend died from leading a rebellion of freedom. A rebellion that was his own idea, not Venti's. He simply assisted him in his fight. Venti doesn't even seem like the type to suppress emotions, the game hasn't really shown that. If he did, they would at least try to make that a bit more obvious in his personality, instead of never mentioning it- The only thing Venti said was similar in their stories, was that they both took the appearance of the friend they lost. Stanley took his name to retell his stories, and Venti took his friend's look as a representation of what he did. Death doesn't make everyone depressed, and drinking a TON surely doesn't make someone depressed either. He could just be an addict for all we know.

I can’t believe the quantity of people in the comment section repeating and repeating that Venti has depression because he has a tragic backstory (that makes him feel sad when he remembers it) and likes wine. Someone that likes alcohol is not just because they had a tragic backstory they want to forget. Like, there are 0 things that indicate that Venti drinks wine BECAUSE he is depressed. I personally find more interesting that he likes to drink alcohol just because he likes alcohol and not the stereotypical “I drink because I want to forget”.
