JadenK 2008 was worse for me, 2000s wise. I was suspended from school at one point that year and I was a freshman in High School then. Also 2008 was the year the world was in deep financial trouble so that made it worse.
Nah 2008 was pretty good. The best Olympics in the past 20 years happened. Great music, the best superhero flick came out, and the financial situation was pretty light compared to the early 1990s recession.
Man it wasn't just Cartoon Network either! Disney Channel was getting rid of most of its cartoons at the time due to the popularity of shows like Hannah Montana!!! It's a dark time that is still happening today.
+Jkop Disney is doing worse than nick. At least Nickelodeon has the loud house and Harvey beaks. I can't think of one show on Disney I like since gravity falls ended.
I hated the year 2009. Michael Jackson death, CN Real, Nickelodeon's atrocious rebrands, no new cartoons, and the overplaying Hannah montana from Disney Channel were definitely the real reasons why I think 2009 was horrible.
luckily here in Brazil CN Real never happened. Since the Brazilian broadcast is usually so spaced out from the original we still had some content to adapt, this and the partnership with channel boomerang occupied some time with new cartoons(at least for us) alogside rerun blocks twice a day. Seeing this now just made me realize how big of a bullet we dodged.
The downside though is that a lot of Latin live action shows started showing up at nick and disney around that time, and they were from mindless to terrible time wasting even for 9 year olds at the time(think of modern nick levels of acting, but multiplied by -5)
probably trying to resurrect the dark ages of cn real....or just needs more money for cocaine, I mean really would you be surprised, every picture of Andrew can give a person a demented pedo vibe, you an w.
Holy shit... I forgot all about Brain Rush. Had it not been in this video, I probably never would have remembered it again... I used to like it a lot as a kid
And now we need something new to save it from the garbage that is TTG, PPG 16, gumall ( season5-6), thundercats roar, Ben 10 17, mao mao, apple and onion, unikitty, total drama Rama, the new boomerang, and mighty magiswords.
As the kid I was around 2009, I didn't really have a problem with CN Real. My older brother sure did, but I basically said "fuck him" and watched what I wanted. Pretty sure the channel was still rerunning Chowder, Flapjack and Billy & Mandy, so that was something and I was actually into Brainrush, The Othersiders and Destroy Build Destroy. I don't know if I'd like those live-action shows today, but like I said, I was a dumb kid who still enjoyed Johnny Test to some extent. I didn't really mind all the live action. When Adventure Time and Regular Show came out in 2010, I could feel CN Real dying and I was not gonna miss it. One thing I hate about it, though, is that Cartoon Network laid off most of, if not all the cartoonists they had working for them like Craig McCracken and Maxwell Atoms. That was just dumb.
We didn't have digital television in 2009 and I come from a different country, even when we had to see some different TV I mostly stuck with my country's TV (esp. when one of the channels had a show that parodies television a little bit), and if it was a bit foreign then yeah, I watched something like that, but it was MTV, and back then my country still had an MTV version until it got cut the same year. (I also remember seeing Korn play on MTV or something back then. Dunno, I think it was night time. And I was 9.)
not gonna lie while wb foxkids went under Disney and Cn went to shit around the same time late 2008 through 2010 nick kept producing the same garbage levels it always had and i continued to watch it too..not sure why...it was just as medicore
I remember this. I think I swore off Cartoon Network while this was happening, although that is partially because of this crap and partially because 2009 was my edgy teenage phase where I thought kids shows were beneath me. Thankfully I got over that just in time when CN Real FINALLY ended and we started getting better cartoons on CN, Disney, and Nickelodeon again. Hopefully Cartoon Network learns from their mistakes, again, and stop making shitty reboots full of memes and terrible animation, like how they learned to never put live action shows on the channel ever again.
I mean technically yes, but no. In my current timeline we have the Warner merger. Which at this point I pretty much assume assures a streaming only future for CN. Though I'm hoping once removed from the channel adult swim can become a 24-hour replacement.
what pisses me off is how people my age bitch about cartoons not being good "compared to what we watched" yet none of those fuckers legit watched any cartoon pass 2010 (I'm not including anime). Like they'll seriously complain that Steven Universe, Clarence and Uncle Grandpa are the worst thing the network brought up and I'm like "get the fuck out of here, have any of you watched the shit they aired during the CNReal era? Or how about the 'Problem Solverz'? Don't make me bring up shitty cartoons we were tricked into liking, we only remember the "good" cartoons because we systematicly leave out the shit we knew was crap"
I actually kinda of liked Destroy Build Destroy. Though it was mainly for Andrew W K who i had a bit of a crush on at the time and also really liked his music the show was mildly entertaining and was the only thing from CN real i could stand to watch.
As a kid, I remember being so pissed that Out of Jimmy's Head had so many inconsistencies to Re-Animated. Outside of the animated cartoon in his head gimmick, they were totally different things. At least they made the dad less gross in the TV show, his gross gags made me sick as a kid. Side Note: Out of Jimmy's Head was just a poorly put together show in general. They gave no shits about it and you could tell, the set would actually change and day would go to night during scene transitions at the end of conversations. It was a mess. i watched the show way to much as a kid..
I grew up as a huge Cartoon Network fan during the CN Real era. Thank fuck the 2010s swooped in and I eventually grew a good taste and realized I wasted countless hours watching Destroy Build Destroy, Dude What Would Happen, and Johnny Test reruns.
You know Andrew W.K. might've been like, the face of CN Real and like the worst time of this channel's lifetime, but I don't hate him. Maybe it's because I watched Jackass when I was little and he just showed up on and off but I can't hate him.
No, no dude, I love you but listen to what I said... Listen, to what, I said.... TOWER PREP WAS THE BEST CN REAL OF ALL TIME! THE BEST CN REAL! I cried... no nearly died when they canceled it because of 'toy sales' were low, WTF YOU MEAN! That and the museum CN real was AMAZING! HANDS DOWN NEED TO TIME TRAVEL!
Man, I completely forgot about Re-animated. Fuck you for making me remember! Just playin'; but for real, that shit was the reason I stopped watching cartoons completely until my second year of college when I discovered Adventure Time. On the plus side, I missed all the CN Real shit, I was busy watching sketch comedy and anime.
Kekarot the one that I forgot about was the othersiders and when he mentioned it just reminded me of that one scene from southpark with the ghost hunters
in fairness destroy build destroy wasn't a bad idea especially with andrew w.k. as the host, the real problem was that it was on cartoon network. I'd definately watch it if it had been on MTV or a similar network.
The only good thing about cn real was discovering the music of Andrew W.K. and the thermals, who had a song in unnatural history. Foxy shazam had a song for tower prep that tbh I'm surprised isn't a meme.
Is it me, or did Disney XD just see Re-animated, thought the concept of a live-action/animated splice about a kid and cartoons and then made Kirby Buckets when it failed because it was promoted on a network it had no right being on?
Oh and hey that guy from Incredible Crew who was also in Dope is going to be Miles Moralies in the Animated Spider Man movie so that's cool. He'll be *gasp* DOING SOMETHING ACTUALLY ANIMATED RELATED which was more then can be said for him on Cartoon Network sadly.
Every couple of months I go back an look at the CN city where all the cartoon characters were doing there own things like real people....man those were good times.
Yeah, I am glad it failed too, I was trying to give it a try at the age of 13-14, but all I did was waste my time. I could say that this year was probably the start of a dark time for all cartoon channels, Nickelodeon started its terrible SpongeBob spree, and Disney Channel was beginning to resort to lame Sitcoms for kids, there just wasn't anything good to watch for cartoons, (For basic cable, if I recall Disney XD and The Hub came to existence soon after, but you had to have good cable for that.) Then Adventure Time came to save the day, but like the saying goes, die like great show, or live long enough to see yourself become a lackluster one. But I heard it is doing better, and it brought up a lot of great shows in it's tracks.
What annoyed me about Destroy Build Destroy back in the day was that, at least for me, the creative "methods" they used to blow up the creations at the end were always fake. It was obvious that it was always some gas bomb under the platform that hardly even outright damaged the vehicle besides setting it on fire. I guess I was just spoiled by Mythbusters.
Tower Prep was probably the best thing that came out of that whole disaster. It was far better than it had any right to be and I actually really enjoyed it.
I loved tower prep and I dont remember anything about it. All I remember is that I was like 9 and moving back to my grandpas house and I decided to watch the doom movie hor the hundredth time instead of the finale to tower prep and I still regret it 210 years later
Odg, I still remember those looongg afternoons waiting for them to give something interesting on TV, and I still remember that HORRIBLE special of youth golf that passed for hours and hours without any rest beyond advertising breaks..
Tbh I kind of like the theme song to CN Real. Also, I have a bit of a soft side for Dude What Would Happen since that was the only one I actually watched constantly. +Jkop Disney is doing worse than nick. At least Nickelodeon has the loud house and Harvey beaks. I can't think of one show on Disney I like since gravity falls ended.
Nick is just in the toilet right now. Nothing on there stacks up to the nicktoons network era.

The one positive thing about CN real is that it introduced me to Andrew WK, and I like some of his songs.

I honestly remember watching dude what would happen and destroy build destroy i honestly forgot about the other shows because I haven't seen them or watching them I remember incredible crew i mostly watched Disney and maybe some comedy central i have some fuzzy memories of cn real
