@@paisnalija he sets up an awesome run by pacing to have just enough energy in the tank at mile 18-22 of the marathon. where he is relative to others does not matter. he must race his own race, just like he did in st george (when he let others go up the road on the bike). endurance sports are a matter of energy expenditure, and we only have so much that we can store. the more efficiently you train your capacity and translate it to speed is what makes you go fast on race day.
I do fear that we are back to the "Lionel doesn't need a coach", because he knows best about himself loop. Forgetting that a CRITICAL part of being a coach is being able to look at your athlete's training objectively and at the bigger, long term picture, before an A race. If Lionel has finally managed to do that, which he's never managed since i began following his journey about 10 years ago, then he'll be in the mix. Otherwise we'll have another teary video, like we did after 2018, about how he fubared-up. I really do hope its the former. Because that would be total 🔥🔥❗️❗️
This is the comment I was looking for. The best thing about a coach is that they are not looking at things based on today, they are looking at what you as the athelete will be capable of on race day.
the glass ceiling is fundamentals. Lack of focus on technique and form early in the journey will always result in "poor" performances in stacked fields of elites. It is unbelievable what such a sloppy athlete has achieved..Smart career/race choices, unbelievable effort and will. Too much emphasis on numbers vs. fundamentals I hope the words are true and the dude doesn't compare himself to others performances..that's hard earned wisdom. Celebrate what has been accomplished. Anywhere in the top 15 is a great day in a proper field.
Lionel's attitude has really changed this year. I've really enjoyed seeing him smile so much more. He really seems to be enjoying "the journey" over this past year. You go Lionel!

Our yearly LS kona Hyped. 😅 I still couldn't figure out LS training philosophy up to this point. Yes every athlete you have personalized training but it should be based on that athlete past history and reaction to that training stimulus. I know LS wants to coach but I wouldn't sign up for this.

I have trained and completed one marathon and 7 half marathons. In my opinion, the most important thing is getting the miles in. Speed should be an immediate thing. Once you start tapering you find that you will speed. Building up all that energy for one one day event. Miles and calories, hydration.
Been thinking this the past few weeks - far better to be undertrained than overtrained. How can you trust your training if it's what someone else does? I think the only way you can trust your training at this level is by doing what you specifically need to do.
Magnus and Cam are most likely going to be ahead of Lionel in the swim. Also they probably will bike quicker and Maggy can run too so there's that problem.
Kallin and Haugenhag in the mix potentially of ‘Uber bikers’ who miss the front pack but send it down the QueenK. Also Leon. Then there is the Rasmussen Svenninsonn, who will be coming from a long way back by will likely bridge. If Lionel misses the ‘Ditlev pack’ in the swim, Rasmus may be the man to help bike him back into the race.
Being in the present or "be here now" is troublesome especially when you are competing for first place. It destroys effective planning strategies and feedback on the training process. Linear time is an illusion. Everything is here. The future and the past are at one point with the "present" in totality and within personal experience. Practice greater awareness. That makes us better able to see trends in our training and be more accurate in how we feel and better at predicting RPE (Relative Effort) and heat heart rates. Focusing on present shuts off your awareness and makes your consciousness smaller. It is useful to a point for racing (you become a race horse) but it is detrimental in the long term. Good luck.
Do not do what others do. Um,,, yes and no. Watch the interview with Craig Alexander. Or listen to Mark Allen and how he changed to Scott Molina's training. EVERY top triathlete needs: hours and hours of work, 80 to 90% zone 2. Then 10 to 20% above zone 2 to address specific weaknesses. Since everyone has different weaknesses everyone needs 'different' training. But if Blu is training 40 hours per week, Crowie was over that prepping for Kona, everyone needs about that much time, plus or minus bit.

So far I have not gotten any kind of injury. No issues with my body at all. Sometimes I am a bit tired, but I guess thats ok. I sleep well. I eat normally. So is there any way to know about that? Lionel doesn't respond to his comments. I've done triathlon for years though. The earliest signs of overtraining are the "morning warnings" which is consistently waking up excessively tired for the amount of sleep you've gotten, even when your training load the day before wasn't particularly heavy. So for at least 4-5 mornings in a row you have gotten at least 7 hours of sleep and you are struggling to get out of bed, get moving, etc. You also may experience constant irritability. This indicates that your hormones are starting to drop and your body isn't able to recover from training at the rate you are breaking it down. There are 5 stages of overtraining syndrome, this first symptom usually indicates you are in stage 1 or 2, which is called "moderate overreaching." In stage 2 you typically start to experience extreme muscle fatigue and weakness; your legs will feel tired and weak, even at the start of your sessions. It's hard to describe, but they literally start to feel hollow; as if there's just no strength left in them. You also may feel mild/moderate tenderness all around your body, all the time. As a newer athlete, stage 2 overtraining syndrome is typically where you'll get injured. With years, if you decide to keep doing triathlon, your body will become more injury resistant and you'll be able to go further into overtraining syndrome without injury (you obviously don't want to do this). In stage 3 the symptoms remain the same but worsen, and you stop making fitness gains, or even lose some fitness. In stage 4 your fitness is consistently declining and you may develop depression and extreme mood problems (very few athletes ever experience stages 4-5 as it takes extreme motivation and injury resistance to get there). By stage 5 your immune system drops, your fitness plumits and you may develop very serious medical problems. For stage 1: reduce volume and intensity just slightly, no need to stop training Stage 2: take 1-4 days off and come back at about 85-90% volume you were at before, with a slight reduction in intensity Stage 3: take 1-2 weeks off and come back at about 70-80% of previous volume Stages 4-5: go to the doctor and be prepared to take over a month off training. Your season is over. I'd suggest reading "the triathlon training bible" it's a fantastic source for both new and intermediate athletes.
4hours on a stationary bike is already a killer, let alone on a daily basis, if you dont win is not because you done something wrong, its just genetics that you cant change. with that indoor training your mind is way above most!

Relative training based on intuition in order to balance progress with max load volume to avoid injury seems like a smart "organic" method. I understand why so many athletes give praise to God when they succeed; it's the same as Lionel's "organic" method; even though he doesn't say it; I think Lionel trains how he does because he has opened up to the holy spirit; he walks with God.
Its becoming the same ole same ole. I dunno, its entertainment only because Lionel is literally overtrained and literally killing himself to the entertainment of his slaves. There are limits, not everything is possible and the list goes on. Im out. Kona will be a disaster performance wise and that will be the end. Or I hope a road to recovery and good health.
