alot has changed from 1965, a friend of mine is a tour guide in the city of Malang and he used to help people from the Netherland who came to locate their birth places or houses, some even tracking down their family graveyard (as in Malang there's a vast Christian Cemetery dated back from the Colonial era), what I am trying to say is, you are not the only one trying to track down your roots. btw Nrimo Ing Pandum can also means: accepts what's been given by God, as Javanese believes that God provides us everything we need, we may not get what we want, but God always gives us what we need. kind of like what happened to you, you may not find the house your mother grew up, but you found relatives from your mother's side.
Klau sudah tahu nama desa Ngemplak, pastikan cari nama ibu Sajam dimakam wakaf desa tersebut... Klau memang ibu tsb sudah meninggal. Jadi dengan mudah ditelusuri siapa siapa saudara saudaranya yang menetap didesa tsb.
Same with us bro, my mom until now at least almost 70 years did'nt know her parents, we already search but less information not found, but its ok my mom not even think about that and bless happy with family who take care and feel that her real family.. The Jatiroto sugar factory has been abandoned for a long time and the Dutch sugar factory that is still operating today in Madiun is the Rejo Agung sugar factory. In East Java, there are many sugar factories left over from the Netherlands and many are still operating today. East Java is also the largest sugar cane producer in Indonesia.
I have been following your journey of finding your biological family or relative. The challenge of searching particularly among the ethnic groups of Javanese, Sundanese and many others that we do not really use our Family name as our last name. Choosing the names for children also a wish or a prayer of the parents that children to be. Or some other also only use one name no middle or last name. I wish you all the best and I am still waiting for the next episode.

Sorry that you weren’t able to find the old house, I hope you mom wasn’t too disappointed. But since you’re already there, you can find other meaningful ways to find tour roots. One of them is to learn the Javanese philosophy of ꦤꦿꦶꦩꦲꦶꦁꦥꦤ꧀ꦢꦸꦩ꧀ (nrimå ing pandum) which your host mentioned, which means to be accepting of what life has in store for us sincerely and wholeheartedly, being appreciative for the little things, and to not mind the shortcomings. Another way is to learn the local language, Javanese. Just simple phrases like ꦝꦲꦂ dhahar (to eat), ꦲꦶꦚ꧀ꦗꦶꦃ injih (yes), ꦱꦤꦺꦱ꧀ sanès or ꦩ꧀ꦧꦺꦴꦠꦼꦤ꧀ mboten (no). This will help you make connections with locals.

Dulu pernah KKN di g daerah kediri ( mojo tp bagian gunungnya) suatu ketika diajak tuan rumah yang ku tempati mengunjungi saudara jauhnya di gunung g bagian sebelah... Jalannya masih desa banget, bahkan melewati aliran air yang nggak begitu deras.. Tp bisa dilewati motor. Sampai di situ ada rumah modal lawas / lama/ kek joglo gitu... Rumahnya maaf ditengah hutan tp dengan bangunan yang besar, kayunya jati2.. Disitu ada mbah2 putri usianya udh sepuh juga.. Pernah bilang anaknya ada yang dibelanda.. Sebagai orang yang bukan asli Jawa, aku masih shock ada rumah kek ditengah hutan gitu.. Tp buesar vanget, kek orang kaya jaman dulu... ( katanya dulu menghindari penjajah) jadi bikin rumahnya di tengah hutan Kalo main ke rumah saudara itu jalan kaki lewat gunung... Speechless lah... Kangen kesana ( banyak durennya soalny)

If you hv more time to stay, it would be great if you can visit ponorogo district, it around 40 minute from madiun. Lots of culinary in ponorogo and the price is cheaper than madiun. Telaga sarangan is most beautiful place in ponorogo.
