They both fight it as hard as they can. Beautiful portrait. I can't think of a better representation of depression than walking barefoot on cornstalks.

As you can now see, this song is about mental health/suicide awareness. Chris really amazes me at how well he writes songs. He’s able to really get those feelings out there regardless of what he’s writing about. As you can see from this short video, it looks like she is suffering from bipolar and mental health issues. As the song says, bring it on but I’m not going anywhere. He really thought for her Until the bitter end. I can only imagine what he must have felt like to be working as a police officer and get a call to his house and see what she has done to herself. I love Chris Stapleton just like you girls too! He hasn’t written a bad song in my opinion.

I’m so glad you guys did this one. I know, it’s heartbreaking, right. I have avoided this song on purpose bc I was told what it was about. I never skip a song when it’s Chris Stapleton but I had skipped this one bc I’ve been through something very similar and I didn’t want to watch the video at all but when I saw your notification pop up, I thought, nows a good time to rip the bandaid off bc I love your reactions, I knew I wouldn’t feel so alone if I watched it with you 2. What y’all were saying is something that has replayed in my head over and over since, what was, my terrible day, many years ago.
    Like you said…
You can’t keep someone alive, especially when they don’t want to be here bc of their mental health. I tried for 8 years but in the end, I failed, I couldn’t save him. The paramedics were at his funeral, if that tells you anything. They knew us well, unfortunately (i mean under the circumstances) and even they blamed themselves for not getting there fast enough but they wouldn’t have been able to save him anyway.
Sorry this was so long, but I just wanted you to know that you helped me do something today that I’ve been avoiding for a long time so thank you for that.
Much love to you both, hope y’all have a great day.
P.S. I just subscribed like a week ago so I’m still catching up on your videos. I’ll look today as I keep watching them but if you haven’t already done it, “My Immortal” by Evanescence is such a great song, I had someone sing it at his funeral. We would listen to them all the time and he told me if we ever lost the fight he wanted that played or sang at his funeral bc it reminded him of my fight for him. *Tissues might be needed*

My heart broke as I read your post. I'm so sorry for your loss. The first time I saw the Chris Stapleton video I was WRECKED! Something happened in my life that was similar but didn't end tragically. I've also been avoiding rewatching the video. Still made me cry and wrecked me again. It just made me relive the tragedy that almost happened. Life is short & fragile. The people that are important in our lives are blessings and so is music like Chris Stapleton's. I pray that God gives you the strength & healing you need to flourish in your own life. 🙏

Just please be thankful for that person and know that it wasn’t their time to go. Hold onto that and the good times. Be well my friend. Take care and be happy💜xo

in the early 80's we had a singer, Bob Seger, who sang almost EXACTLY like Chris. He didn't have the song repertoire but the voice's are identical!!!

He really captures both points of view. My Mom had severe mental illness, and she tried to kill herself several times. Watching someone you love descend into madness is horrific, but it is even worse for those struggling with mental illness. My mom said it was like a nightmare you can never wake up from. RIP Mom. We love you!

"Whiskey And You" is THE quintessential Christ Stapleton song.
It's like all his other songs wrapped up into one.

While I love the video, the song itself really speaks to me. My daughter (grown and happy with hubby& children now) suffered from what I call bi-polar-high highs & low ( suicidal attempts) low from12- into her twenties. I was the one she trusted to go off on , I was the one who understood I needed to give her her best shots and let her fire away at me. IT was extremely painful, but she survive and made it out the other side-is hyper aware-vigilant with her kids. It's hard to tell on the video if he got her metal care help or not. God knows we did, but sometimes that made it worse, in the end she was finally willing to put in effort and and seek out the right help for herself. Thank God.

I think I'm getting addicted to reaction videos, and ya'll ain't helping....lol. I love sharing great music with people that really appreciate it, no matter what genre its from. Great music transcends genre, that's the first measurement. I first heard Chris when he was bluegrass with Steeldrivers, He was also part of The Jompson Brothers. He does a song called "Barley Alive." Haven't seen a video for it, like the one for Fire Away, but then again his voice on this song quite possibly transcends the need for imagery, in my opinion. I would love to see ya'll give it a listen. I think the addictive part of this is watching that powerful influence of emotions, wash over the faces of someone hearing and feeling the same things I did. Feelings are the road signs that get us anywhere worthwhile, ignoring them only gets you lost.
