I just want you to know that my husband & I have had pugs since the mid 1990’s. You did an EXCELLENT job explaining in all the videos “things you should know about pugs”. Everything! It’s wonderful to see you educating people to help them decide about ownership or helping newbies with their new pug. Especially their obsession with food & the myth that they are lazy. The two most important (I think) are their sensitivity to heat & over exertion especially in the heat. I don’t walk mine over 72 degrees unless it’s after the sun goes down. Shedding is important to have addressed to as it can be a deal breaker for some. Like you & Chelsea, we vacuum daily but for us they are worth it. . We absolutely adore the breed. Currently we have an 8 year old female Brindle named Daisy Mae & a 13 year old female fawn named Bella. Our girls do what we call zoomies every night & it still amazes me how low to the ground & fast they can go. We are getting our new baby boy in a few more weeks. He’s fawn & name tbd but Stanley is on the list! 😊
Good discussion of pug energy. My girls are about 13 and 12 yrs old. They are still capable of zooming for short periods. They still like to play. Just a few minutes. They became mature and elderly about age 9. They have different personalities. The younger one was faster and liked to be out front, leading the walk. In their younger yrs, a walk would be about an hour; depending on the heat. Always carry water, even when it is not very hot. Now, the walks are shorter, maybe 20 minutes. Both dogs walk beside me; or more often, behind. One has always enjoyed rolling in the grass. So we stop every few feet. She is frequently rolling. The more energetic dog still ranges out to sniff and inspect. We do not walk when it is very hot. They sleep on a tall bed with me. They used to be able to leap up on the bed by leaping on an ottoman and then the bed. I now have to lift both of them up. One likes to sleep next to me. The other one likes to sleep on my legs ... sometimes. They are very fond of each other. Even so, they play fight over toys and other things. They follow me everywhere. I have planned for their cremation. They may have 1 or 2 years left, or less. One human cremation service in my city will also do pets. When I die, they will go with me. They are my girls. 🙂🙂
I too am surprised by the energy level of a pug. I have a large family with kids and a American Pit bull terrier. I was worried a pug would not be able to keep up. Our pug outlasts our pit by a long shot. They take the same distance of walk and do all the same activities but during the day the pit is relaxing on his bed and the pug can be found playing fetch or chase with the kids. We have taken her as far as 4.5 miles in a day and she has always hung, never even slowing her pace.
I just got an 8 week year old pug and I don’t know what diet I should feed him. He barely has his teeth so I’ve been feeding him ‘ceaser wet food” soft food and his poop is very dark like as black. Please respond I’m worried
I tried feeding Cesar dog food to my pug and found that she was farting a lot. I then tried to find an expiration date on the can and I couldn't.... I have never seen any food that does not have an expiry date printed on the container... I stopped giving my dog that food and farts went away. So, I would stay away from Cesar food altogether. Plus, black poop means - dog's stomach does not take the food well. Same is true if you see mucus in dog's stool, it usually means that dog's stomach is irritated and has an allergic reaction. Feed your dog grain-free food as they are susceptible to food allergies. It may take a couple of months to find the food that works for your pug, but it is totally worth it. And don't buy cheap food for him/her. All the very best!
They are generally more energetic as puppies, It depends on how often you exercise and play with them, Pablo is still as energetic now as he was as a puppy, but most will mellow as they get around the 1 year old mark :)

I was shocked by how far they can walk. The pug I look after can walk so far! He comes on long walks (12 km plus) every day.
They're actually quite amazing! Pablo can outtalk me 😂
Thanks
