My brothers and I shared 1 game boy color growing up. I saved up all the money I had and bought Oracle of Seasons at target. I remember reading the back of the box all the way home. Me and my bro’s took turns beating the game together. Those are some of my favorite memories. Watching you play is bringing many of those wonderful memories back to life. Thanks for the wonderful content!
No matter how chaotic and wierd my days have been, i can always count on bill to make my day a little bit better, just saying interesting things, playing games i love and being his overall self makes me want to keep on going and trying my hardest each and every day
After Link's Awakening, the Oracles are my favourite handheld Zelda games. For me, Seasons slightly edges Ages because 1: when I was a kid, I got stuck on the second boss (Thwomp Head.) I always ran out of bombs and had no idea that it periodically dropped them and 2: when I picked it up again as a teen, I completely sucked at the Goron dance, which unlike the Subrosian dance, is necessary for progression. Needless to say, I had *much* more practice playing Seasons until I bought them on the virtual console (and had the pleasure of destroying Ganon for the first time.)
Fun fact you can pretty much go almost the whole game without getting the boomerang because you can use bombs to set off that switch in the temple of seasons
Ah man! I'm excited to watch you finally play these for yourself! Like a lot of other people have already said, these were a big part of my childhood and are still two of my favorite Zelda games today. I hope you enjoy!
These are 100% my favorite zelda games and were the introduction for me to the series. If you're playing on an emulator, try to get the codes for the secret boss fight at the end.
Dang Bill I'm so glad you're play Seasons it was my first of the Oracles as well, as I'm typing this I'm having the biggest nostalgia trip. I'm so ready for this ride.
I love these games so much. Playing them was such a big part of my childhood. I think I even had the strategy guide with all the secrets sealed in the back
Love love love this game, the rings were so good, I remember the cheat sites I would see as a kid would talk about cheat codes that would bring you to a supposed land of rings under the appraisers house haha
Well, I’m glad you picked Seasons first, since Hyrule Historia and Encyclopedia both ruled that that was the one that came first canonically! Yours is the only play-through I’ve found in the correct order!
I remember watching NCS's playthroughs of these games, too. Partway through his Ages playthrough, I was inspired to playthrough Ages and a linked Seasons. I owned the games for many years - since the games came out in 2001, believe it or not - but never beat them until near the end of his Ages playthrough. Glad to see you tackling these games. You'll be having a blast!
It was originally supposed to be a remake of zelda 1. When that was shot down they were going to make 3 games wisdom. Strength and courage. But they never made the 3rd game
It may have been because I was young but I remember the last few dungeons in Ages being very long and confusing! I remember HATING the Jabu Jabus belly in Ages.
@@5-Volt yeah ages was all about the puzzles from the progression in the dungeons to navigating the overworked between past and present to move forward. Just think about the effort it took to get to jabu jabu in the the first place
Thank you for playing this Bill. I too (being your age) missed these when they came out, as the handhelds didn’t really do it for me. (I’d played Links awakening and didn’t like it; at that time) so a couple years ago I bought Seasons and Time on the 3DS store and was using save states. I started with Seasons and made it to the final boss, using a save state. And I guess I let too much time pass before I picked it up again and it cleared? Erased? Idk something, all my save states except for the time I legitimately saved the game back at the first dungeon. I gave up and haven’t played it since, so now I get to play it vicariously through you.
Only 6 mins in and this video is hilarious! Ages and Seasons are my favorite. I am certain you will enjoy them. We have a lot in common growing up, so this game should suit your tastes.
Happy New Year, Bill! 🎉 I'm so excited for this! I love the manga of these games and I keep meaning to play them but seem to always default to the bigger titles when the Zelda urge hits. I think I'll make a better effort this year. "Lunk" had me rolling 😂
I saw a review for these games a while back. Apparently, Seasons is more combat-focused with regards to difficulty and Ages is more puzzle-focused. Looking forward to watching!
Capcom's original plan was to make three interconnected games - a remake of zelda1, a remake of zelda 2, and an original game. That proved too much and so it was cut to two without remaking past games. Oracle of Seasons has many elements of Zelda 1 that were left over from the original plan.
I swear the Subrosians make me think of Kenny during the picture day episode of South Park, when he put his normal outfit on upside-down and backwards, you can probably guess where this is leading.
@@cactusjack7614 I mean, ya, it is likely he will get Ricky's, but it would still be interesting to see if he does get Moosh's instead (since I doubt he will do the dance again to get Dimitri's), as you can get Moosh's flute without the Linked game
The tunics were added in the dx version of links awakening hence the colour theme to the dungeon it was literally the colour dungeon being in colour for the first time
The photo ops were also added in the DX version (the camera shop doesn't exist in the pre-colour version, which was replaced with Dampé's Dungeon Maker in the Switch remake)
Man, Its disappointing how many people sleep on these games, Absolutely top. Glad to see it gettin some attention! The seasons mechanic was honestly so fuckin cool at the time, I still have my original gameboy copy around here somewhere.
Pick up shield, never uses it, wonders why the dungeon is so hard. Also I screamed when he ran from Maple. Those minigames are how you get some of the best items, as she drops rings and potions Also you have to go to your inventory and equip the ring to have ot do anything. You just moved it to your box
Crazy I just started another playthrough of this game and I realized that was more difficult than I remember. Running into Lynels before the 4th dungeon really had me messed up
This seems SUPER old school, I grew up with the SNES but my big Sister's house mate had a NES and always babysitted me. We had a Commadore 64, with games before she moved out. I remember a bowling game, useing the joystick but I would have been 4 or 5, for me, just like everyone else my first video game experience was Mario. I remember one of her friends was round, playing Double Dragon 3, really far in the game. He paused it and in the time it time it took him to go to the bathroom, I took over and promptly got him a Game Over. It I was him, I would have killed me!
YES YES YES I HAVE LOVED THIS GAME EVER SINCE RELEASE ... its my favourite 2D zelda ... will you be doing a ages with seasons competition code in the future
The music in these games, plus the interesting world from the start. Nintendo made some great 2D Zelda games, and I’ve completely overlooked them. Unfortunate.
One thing I love about these games is simply the fact that there are incarnations of the Goddesses with Din, Nayru and Farore. I wish Zelda games did that again but now it's less about them and only about Hylia... 😑
I would love it if Nintendo commissioned Capcom to remake these. Nintendo remade Link's Awakening and it was roundly disappointing. This is the time for it because these games need to stay on the small screen.
Chose the right one to start with. Canonically, Seasons should be played before Ages (though they are designed so that you can play in any order) Also the similarities with Zelda 1 aren't nods. The Oracle games started as a remake of the original, but things changed mid development. Seasons retains all the remade stuff before the change of plans and is known as the Zelda 1 Remake. And for my fellow viewers: Tips and hints are fine to give, but Bill has already finished his playthrough (refer to the playlist for the total number of videos), so don't be mad when your tips aren't used.
I still tend to like Ages before Seasons due to how a main character from the other game shows up in Seasons throughout the adventure. Plus Impa's troupe tells you why they're here.
@@RyanBlazeheart Impa tells you why in Seasons too, that's not game specific. As for the character from the other game showing up throughout the adventure, that's not game specific either.
I wish they would give these games an update like they have with others. Probably two of my favorite Zelda games.
I have heard whispers that Nintendo is doing the links awakening treatment to them. I only played seasons as a kid so I'm excited.

So, who else is curious which of the 3 flutes he will get? It looks like he just gave up on Dimitri's, so will he get Ricky's or Moosh's?
Ricky's is the main story line one. If he had played Ages, Moosh is the main storyline flute and you can get it from linking.
