Yeah honestly this is almost insulting to the novels, Ten episodes featuring the prelude to foundation would have been a better show.

I'm 76 - have read the Foundation Trilogy several times - there's a lot of deviations from the original. Sort of like "this movie is based kinda, sort of, a little bit on"
it looks awesome and all, but none of the colonist try to visit blue planet again?
I love this show. I hope we won't have to wait another 2 years for another season. Can't wait for season 3.
I thought I was going to hate it because of all the comments I saw from the book readers, but I gave it a shot, and don't regret it a single bit.
I feared the race and gender swapping would make the show woke, but it didn't.
And I discovered an incredibly talented actress in Lou Lobdell. I read the books 40 years ago, and I really love the show. The last episode of season 2 was incredible and no spoilers, haha

If your not a booker reader its quite good if you are a book reader you`ll have huge issues...its probably better not to have read the books as you`ll enjoy it more..
Me i`m a reader i have those issues but can get pass them to enjoy it for what it is not what it should have been...i have the same issue with Wheel Of Time the series is mostly OK but a shadow of the books

Books ,novels always put movies to shame...to bad so much was changed away from the way it was written....and what started out as a Trilogy turned into two more novels five total...fabulous writing.
That's normal. In books, you can write anything and everything and it's a bonus if the world building is complete and the writing is great. But it's going to be challenging for the media to be adapted on screen.
I didn't read the books yet but episode 3 and 4 are pure fillers where nothing happens i realise this show is going to be garbage
Oh, I don't know the movie version of Moby Dick was much better than the book. The book was well, rather mundane, and so loaded with details that it was hard to follow in many places.
@@olymolly3637 I get that and agree and for all its flaws Foundation has been more thoughtfully done than say Wheel Of Time(my rant on that would be epic and 10 pages long)

Cloning only preserves the status quo to endless stagnation without any progress … whatever Dawn learnt in his life as Day and Dusk gets lost in Dust and they start over with Dawn again where the last Dawn started.
If they could transfer consciousness from Dusk to the next Dawn, there would be progress and true immortality.
Thinking that they are immortal by cloning is just an illusion, they didn’t cheat death, they willingly die once they get turned into Dust, deceiving themselves by calling it ascension.
I could never get over the massive deviation from the novel so i never got past the first few episodes

Im often torn between picking fantasy or scifi... or the hypothetical of if i had to choose one or the other, which one would i rather be in or want to have as my number one choice for whatever reason... this definitely has put my imagination in maybe the top 5 of scifi universes I'd live in or want to learn more about 😂❤

i'm so-so on this show. it's so different than the book. but i do actually like the use of genetic clones for the ruling emperor.
The cone emperors are the best part of Foundation, a part Asimov didn’t even write. The books are amazing but the show is as well. Different takes in the same story that’s all.

Lee Pace is the best thing about this show, Empire is an original character who grows and changes and he is a delight to see perform. Which is weird because some of the show-runners interpretations have been clumsy or amateur at best, it's almost like there are different teams of writers attacking different parts of the show and, perhaps by dint of his name recognition, Apple put all the best people on his side and the b- list people on 'Salvor Hardin's'.
Why?
Remember the scene where Salvor is about to unite all the factions stranded on the rebel planet but just as she's about to become the guiding light for a new nation and the new female icon for a generation .... TA DAAAA! out steps Hari Seldon and just sidelines her in her own story arc without saying a word.
I was speechless for all the wrong reasons, but overall it is an enjoyable take on an un-filmable IP.

I didn't understand how the planet can be underwater when a planet is a closed eco-system and water just doen't appear.

there could be an sub oceanic body of water. Also, where does water come from to begin with? Asteroids pelting earth over eons. The planet swells. Npt a closed sutem. Its an energetic system with a particular frequency matrix, ie a soul, alive. conscious. oh it could also express itself multidimensionally, inas varying densities of consciousness, and you could experience it out of linear temporal sequence. crazy!

@@TheFiown Just because it doesn't affect you doesn't mean it isn't real. Small island nations around the world the rising sea level is a major problem. Even here in the UK we are having issues with rising sea levels and coastal erosion
this show has so little to do with Asimov's Foundation his estate should sue them

I have enjoyed the series. Its the only reason I got Apple TV. However, the deviations from the books are troubling. The empire split in three for example.

Well in series it is only 25 000 planets, 25 milion was in book. Also population in series is only 8 trilion in book it was 1 quadtrilion. But anyway it is great series!

25 million planets?? Damnnn that's a lot of planets but if you think about it in a galaxy, there are billion of planets in a galaxy but how many planets are habitable . I think empire controlled 25,000 habitable planets and 8-15 trillion people is more realistic
@@louyht7 Well in milky way galaxy is between 100-400 billion stars as probably same amount of planets. So in books 25 milion is around 0.0125% of planets in Galaxy, so yes it is only habitable planets. But yes in series it is 25 000 which is more realistic for control by Empire, 25 milion is impossible to be control by one man and one planet. Plus average population on 25 000 planets would be 320 milion if we will count galaxy has around 8 trilion citizens, also more realistic.

This is like a scifi Game Of Thrones and my only issue with it is knowing how long the wait could be for Season 3. While I wait, I'll be reading the books to compare and contrast. Whatever the differences there's room for both, and no adaptation of a book(or series of books) can be a 1:1 translation. Especially with something of this scope written decades ago over a 40 year period
Don't read the books if you've been watching the series. You'll only be completely confused. I've read the foundation series from start to finish a number of times and the descriptions from this video barely follow the books by the looks of it; from character genders to plot analysis.

I don't know about you guys but suddenly I feel really hopeful about the future. I mean I'm serious this means that things are really turning around for cinema and the world in general in my opinion. Amazing what a really good television show can really do.
The plot is from a book written during the golden age of science fiction. I wish this was a positive sign but it's another proof that modern writers can't do anything but recycle old ideas.
Literally a book from decades ago. The book is better as well. Asimov is the biggest sci fi writer of all time.

I watch foundation because of Jarred Harris. He is one of my favourite actors. He always plays his characters very well to a point that even makes a so-so movie watchable (At least for me).
I loved chernobyl, it was a masrepiece. But i'm not partucullarly fond of foundation, however i like his character portrayal in this series. But season two seems more promissing (Hopefully).
I loved the original books. I loved the additional books. I loved the novels. I thought they would make a decent adaptation. This is a mess! A terrible mess. Something wrong with Hollywood!
First they started to screw up Star Trek with the Kelvin timeline and brought in the strange new Klingons...
Than they said "To hell with the beautiful written Star Wars extended Universe" Forget the idea of the New Republic, with Leia as the leader, with their 3 talented children, with a Jedi Academy, with new Jedi apprentices, with new interesting characters like Mara Jade, Thrawn and others !!!
A Very well-written story arc went into the dustbin...
... and what we got in exchange?? They killed everybody we loved, Leia, Han.... and they produced this terrible end trilogy, with a dumb story and grey characters.
(These days they started to smuggle back many of these into their f**ed up SW universe. : ))) )
I am sure they were looking around what classic Sci-Fi story had left untouched, unscrewed.... :)))
