STONE SPIRAL STAIRCASE | Final Stonemasonry Apprenticeship Project | 4K

My final project for my stonemasonry apprenticeship is a spiral staircase using Gosford Sandstone from NSW, Australia. The design has its flaws but is a good foundation for my work in this field. Hope you enjoy the video!

Lovely work; I own a 16th century Scottish tower-house that would have had about 100 treads - made without a single power tool. By the way, if it were a spiral stair it would rise to a point getting smaller by every riser. The correct term is either a turnpike, circular or wheel stair.

When I saw the title I was expecting some old fashioned hammer and chisel work. Very disappointing! Looks like anybody with a couple of hours instruction could do this and not a master stonemason! Poor work.

As a stonecarver and sculptor, i can assure you that primitivism is an affectation. It's a requirement to know how, and prove it. It's stupid and pretentious to wreck your hands and elbows 'proving' something to sneering amateurs.
