I wouldn't trust myself to keep even pressure on it. Likely use use a weight matching the back of the lap as to shape so the the weight didn't shift in use. In the video, there may be some question as to who is assisting who. 😂
Doing the figure 8 and rotating it regularly help to reduce human error of even pressure. As for who is doing the work, we switch off when we get tired ;)

What's the carbide powder grit - the equivalent to that of the lap?
I think we used 360 grit carbide.
