@@ajmoment8091 I do think there's sort of a way to talk about the designs more in depth... forgive me, I know it's not that serious, but I have a brain that goes on tangents, and this will be my soapbox. dip out now if you don't want to read a lot of text. I think in general, this generation has three overarching problems, but it's hard to pull them all together neatly. 1. one of the biggest problems is a lack of differentiation between base forms and their evolved forms. biggest example is the Pawmi line. I hate it when there's a pokemon design where I just cannot tell what materials the animal is even made of. which parts of its head are bone, and which parts are skin? is his hide tough like an alligator, is it all just fleshy... he could be made of aluminum for all I know. like, idk, it's a smoothly rendered 3D model. who will ever be able to tell what it's made of? everything that has ever been rendered that way will always look like a hard smooth surface (metal, scales, carapaces, etc.) or, if it has any give to it at all, it'll look too goopy. nothing has fur anymore if you really look at it closely for a moment... I don't care what texture they mapped onto all the smooth surfaces the thing is made of, you can't fool me, it's smooth. and it always will be, because actual real textures suck to build in 3D. 3. and then the last big problem is that I hate how certain pokemon animate. Bombirdier _sucks,_ not because I even mind the concept, but because when you watch the animation of it dropping things, that flap moves on it's own, as though there's like, a muscle in there. like it's an arm. Jaden's whole observation about the Bisharp line is spot on... Kingambit has the "it animates awkwardly" issue 100%. Clodsire is fine... once again, it works with the smooth goopy texture of 3D rendering. Annihilape is fine... they actually figured out a fur texture that works okay by matting the strands together into chunks. it's probably the most successful way they have of marrying the smooth 3d model skin with the need to convey hair. the Sprigatito line is fine, though I might have a few more nitpicky design complaints on the basis of evolution variation if I was really gonna dig into it. I agree with Jaden's thoughts on the Fuecoco line with the exception of my complaints about Skeledirge and texture. Quaxly is an example of them trying to lean into the goop factor _way_ too hard with the texture of it's pompadour, but the final evolution solves that issue. overall, the starters struggle with middle evolutions super hard in this gen... they're either underwhelming, not differentiated enough from their previous/next forms, or straight up ugly. the Lechonk line is boring but doesn't give me fits for any of the main three issues, so it's mostly unremarkable... I do hate the end of female Oinkologne's tail though, I hate it's gross finger-like tassle hairs. Dudunsparce I have no issue with, but that's no surprise because Dunsparce was already a super solid design that translated well into 3D. Tarountula is good, but Spidops looks like it's missing something... I saw someone edit it once, so that it's abdomen still had the round yarn ball from Tarountula's design, and it looked a lot better. Nyble is really good, but tbh all bugs tend to work well in 3D because they have smooth carapace shells, and that's very compatible with 3D modeling... that said, Lokix looks stiff to me. I think the way it animates actually totally saves it though, like, I love the way it uses those extending back legs. (to be continued)
(continued) Rellor itself is fine, but I don't tend to like it when a pokemon is dwarfed by it's prop. I actually have that issue with the Tinkaton line as well, like, if the prop overshadows the pokemon, then it just feels like it's all gimmick, no substance. and yeah, Rabsca has the issue of not being different enough from Rellor. I know their colors are very different, and Rabsca's design inspiration takes a wild turn, but in terms of size and silhouette, they're too close. the Greavard line almost has the same issue, like, I know the dog gets bigger and they put a different thing on it's head, but that's basically just the same dog. Mabosstiff's line is like this too, plus it's ugly with boring colors. I actually have no issue with the Flittle line. if anything, I wish Flittle was a bit bigger, because the design changes so much between Flittle and Espartha, that you don't need such a dramatic size difference. Flittle should be comparable in size to Togepi. then it's fine. Farigiraf is fine, no notes. the Wigglet line leans into the goopy texture of the 3D model in a gross way, and I think how much you like or hate it depends on if that gross goop factor is a selling point to you or not. Dondozo is fine... fish also do well when 3D rendered, because they're smooth already. the Palafin line is awkward, especially because Palafin stands on it's tail, but it doesn't look like it can walk... it looks like it's legs are bound together at the ankles, but also it doesn't have legs, and I can't tell if that's better or worse for it conceptually. it has the Kingambit problem of "I don't know how this animal moves around, and thus, I don't know how this animal lives it's life" but at least that can be solved by assuming that Palafin swims... I guess. I just hugely dislike it when it feels like the need to design a cool pokemon supersedes the pokemon's function as an animal that has to go about it's own business day-to-day. the whole Smolive line is fine, but I wish the leaves on Arboliva's branches were rendered as individual leaves, and not just one big green chunk per bough. it also almost has the "how does it walk around" issue, but it saves itself by at least having legs. Veluza is fine. I agree with Jaden about the Capsakid line, Scovillain should be bigger. I also understand that Scovillain's necks are supposed to be stems, but it bothers me that they're so skinny. it doesn't seem like Scovillain should be able to support it's heads in that position... even real peppers hang from their stems, the stems don't hold them upright vertically. Doduo didn't have this problem because birds set a precedent of being lightweight in the way their bodies are constructed, but Scovillain's heads look too heavy for the same logic to save it. Tadbulb is fine, but I hate Bellibolt's fake eyes, and the fact that it's just a blob with nothing else going on. like, we already have a ton of smooth blobs in pokemon, why did we need this? Revavroom is fine, but I'm not as into pokemon that look like vehicles or complex man-made equipment... Rolycoly is kind of a bummer to me for the same reason. Orthworm is great and works really well. it doesn't irritate me for any of my main three reasons, and it justifies itself being a single stage pokemon. the Maushold line just looks like it was designed by Sanrio, and has poor differentiation between itself and it's evolution again. I don't really have issues with Cetoddle's line, except I think Cetitan's mouth is gross when it opens it. the Frigibax line is so smooth that it looks unfinished. put Baxcalibur next to Tyranitar and just make some mental notes about why Tyranitar looks like a complete design, while Baxcalibur looks like he got knocked out and looted, and is now missing most of his equipment. Tatsugiri is fine... I actually like their multiple forms quite a bit. Cyclizar works as a pre-evolution of the legendaries but I also wish he was a less ugly color. beyond that he's fine, no notes. Pawmi is conditionally cute but it isn't justified having even one evolution that looks like that, much less two. Jaden is right about Wattrel, it's cute, quirky, and charming, and then it evolves, loses the charm, and gets boring. Squawkabilly is fine... I think it'll grow on me more over time. Flamigo is fine... I think he's stylized strangely enough to justify himself. Klawf is right up there with Orthworm for me, they're both really solid designs, and I love the goofy bug eyes on Klawf especially. the Nacli line is fine. the Glimmet line is fine. Shroodle is gross and has bigtime goop texture, and that is just not necessary for a thing that evolves into Grafaiai. Grafaiai, is just fine, I like it, it can stay. the Fidough line is surprisingly aesthetically strong for basic dog pokemon. why have the Mabosstif line if we have these? the Bramblin line has the lack of differentiation problem again... I want the creators of this gen to pick either Bramblin or Brambleghast and then either make it a single stage evolution, or give it an evolution that actually changes. anyway... you get the idea. a ton of these designs have flaws that boil down to: make the evolutionary stages look different from one another, or don't have them. tell me what material the pokemon is made of by actually drawing it that way, not just in terms of surface texture, but in terms of the actual shape of the pokemon's body. and design pokemon that look like they could actually live full lives. don't make them be stuck in one pose, don't animate them in ways that imply untrue things about their anatomy, let them move around in a way that makes sense for their bodies.
a criticism I kinda have with the Gen 9 evolutionary lines is that they either change too much between stages or dont change enough. Like it feels like Pawmo could have been removed entirely, Scovillain is missing its final stage, and Espathra is missing a middle evolution
that's moreso a problem with that one evolution line rather than a problem with an entire generation. The rest of Gen 5's evos are pretty solid, though I wish Volcarona had a middle evo so it could be the pseudo-legendary it was meant to be
It does have this problem, but I think it also has one of the most comprehensive evolutions in pokemon with the Tinkaton line. The name, the appearance, and the pokedex entries all mesh so perfectly
I think it’s part of Flamigo’s charm. This plain looking bird that is secretly good in battle. Them giving it to Larry(the one ordinary man in the lineup) was genius
Jaiden hating on the kokopelli is absolutely freaking hilarious and deeply saddening as an Arizona resident at the same time. And for the record, she's absolutely right. The kokopelli is everywhere here.
I know you said Pokémon that just don't evolve or have a pre-evolution are hard to make, but they did such a good job on Grafaiai, just to give it a pre-evolution anyway.
The Idea behind Lokix is more than what many think and the typing fits perfactly with what Lokix is supposed to be. Lokix is a Kamen rider. For those who might not know Kamen Rider is a tokusatsu show similar to power rangers/super sentai but without the mecha final battles. Many Riders before 2000s were solely based on Insects with the first rider Ichigo based on a Grasshopper. Lokix's typing of Bug/Dark reflects the original rider's origin as Kamen Rider Ichigo was original made as a pawn of the villainous organization known as Shocker which you guessed it wanted to take over the world BUT before the brainwashing was complete the Rider was freed and decided to use the power he was given by this evil to fight for Justice thus reflected in its typing of Bug(the grasshopper theming) and Dark(Original meant to be a soldier for evil but now fights for the good.) so Lokix actually is quite more interesting than just a "Chainsaw Grasshopper."
Tinkaton is literally the best Pokémon in Generation 9, strong (with its OP move lol don't look at its atk stats) cute and with a good typing, how could you not love it?
Jaiden put 2/3 of the Pokemon on this list that are in my party in F tier, and my least favorite Pokemon of all time in A tier, and that's the type of anger you can only get from a tier list video. I forgive her, though, because she's one of my comfort UA-camrs that I go to when the vibes are off.

I may be cosplaying as Iron Valiant this year but my number #1 is Spidops. I've wanted an Ogre Spider forever and making them Solid Snake is just wonderful. Silk Trap's fun too! ...It's to the point where I wrote a fat portion of their Bulbapedia page. I may be obsessed.
@@liammccartney6754 And because it has a lower BST than the Starter's MID-EVOS. Spidops deserves an Evolution that resurrects its Tarountula traits and gives it good Stats, a usable Mono-Bug sounds so fun! Plus, the early-Route Bugs DO traditionally have three Stages. Perhaps it would be one of those prickly spinning wheels used for sewing, to continue Spidops's marionette theme and Tarountula's yarn abdomen.
My mom really likes Kokopelli and he's all over my house, so I, too, grew up seeing a lot of him. I never saw Gholdengo as Kokopelli. I always thought he looked like the string cheese man. (Just looked up a picture and apparently I'm not the only one.

4:00 Khepri = scarab-faced god in ancient Egyptian religion "The Egyptian god Khepri was believed to roll the sun across the sky each day at daybreak. In a similar fashion, some beetles of the family Scarabaeidae use their legs to roll dung into balls. Because of its symbolically similar action, the scarab was seen as a reflection of the heavenly cycle and was characterized as representing the idea of rebirth or regeneration." - wikipedia
You should do more tier lists, but you go backwards since this one is paldea, which means next would be galar then alola and so fourth (or back) This is just a suggestion but I think it would be fun
I think Jaiden might’ve missed the point of Kingambit a tad bit. Bisharp is fast and sleek cause it’s a Bishop, whereas Kingambit is a king so he just sits around all day very slowly scooting around like a broken roomba

That’s how i talk about Pokémon BUT if it’s pink it’s immediately 110% cooler
Only Jaiden casually returns (on 2nd channel) after 3 months with a Pokemon tier list, I respect the bravery
🥌
True
Only jaiden would earn the respect of Heisenberg
you're everywhere.. HOW??
a criticism I kinda have with the Gen 9 evolutionary lines is that they either change too much between stages or dont change enough. Like it feels like Pawmo could have been removed entirely, Scovillain is missing its final stage, and Espathra is missing a middle evolution
u think Gen 9 is bad? samurott barely looks anything like oshawott and dewott ;-;
that's moreso a problem with that one evolution line rather than a problem with an entire generation. The rest of Gen 5's evos are pretty solid, though I wish Volcarona had a middle evo so it could be the pseudo-legendary it was meant to be
It absolutely feels that way, besides that most designs also feel like they lack in execution of an otherwise interesting idea (imo).
It does have this problem, but I think it also has one of the most comprehensive evolutions in pokemon with the Tinkaton line. The name, the appearance, and the pokedex entries all mesh so perfectly
Never even thought about Scovillain being a middle stage mon but that could be cool to give it an evo.
The most frustrating thing about tier lists is not being able to debate with your favorite creator how WRONG they are lmao
9:25 Jaiden really watched the cutscenes and said “let him die”
My day was just made so much better, i would gladly watch hours of jaiden play games and talk. Congrats on your first sponsor!

Says Kilowattrel is the most plain bird Pokemon has made, then proceeds to put Flamigo in B tier.
Flamigo is awesome. Though I admit the design is plain, but good god that thing is a titan killing machine
I think it’s part of Flamigo’s charm. This plain looking bird that is secretly good in battle. Them giving it to Larry(the one ordinary man in the lineup) was genius
Well, at least Flamigo kind of looks like a boxing glove?

Tinkaton will alway be God tier in my opinion

Rip that one Jaiden video talking about how she doesn't do sponsorships unless they truely interest her.
Only Jaiden casually returns (on 2nd channel) after 3 months with a Pokemon tier list, I respect the bravery
This is the most "I'm gonna do a tierlist just so my chat will stfu about it" video ever and I loved it
Jaiden put 2/3 of the Pokemon on this list that are in my party in F tier, and my least favorite Pokemon of all time in A tier, and that's the type of anger you can only get from a tier list video. I forgive her, though, because she's one of my comfort UA-camrs that I go to when the vibes are off.
I know next to nothing about Pokémon, but Jaiden talking about Pokémon works so well for me
I don't think I've ever had such conflicting feelings on a tier list before~ xD I agree with so much and disagree with maybe an equal amount~ Still, always fun to get your opinions on things and I enjoyed hearing them!
EDIT: Also, we all know that the real reason you don't like Oinkologne is because it reminds you too much of Sue E~

I have to agree about Armarouge and Ceruledge, the sword Ghost is definitely cooler then it’s twin the football player with cannons.
Yeah it's just a megaman villian
I may be cosplaying as Iron Valiant this year but my number #1 is Spidops. I've wanted an Ogre Spider forever and making them Solid Snake is just wonderful. Silk Trap's fun too!
...It's to the point where I wrote a fat portion of their Bulbapedia page. I may be obsessed.
Spidops doesn't get much respect because it's early route and evolves from tarountula.

Khepri = scarab-faced god in ancient Egyptian religion
"The Egyptian god Khepri was believed to roll the sun across the sky each day at daybreak. In a similar fashion, some beetles of the family Scarabaeidae use their legs to roll dung into balls. Because of its symbolically similar action, the scarab was seen as a reflection of the heavenly cycle and was characterized as representing the idea of rebirth or regeneration."

I think Jaiden might’ve missed the point of Kingambit a tad bit. Bisharp is fast and sleek cause it’s a Bishop, whereas Kingambit is a king so he just sits around all day very slowly scooting around like a broken roomba
