Gabriel Tacchino was the only pianist actually to study Poulenc's works with the composer, so quite apart from the excellence of his interpretations they have a unique historical status (second only, of course, to the composer's own recordings, and those of Jacques Février). However, I want to point out that in Les soirées de Nazelles -- surely one of the pinnacles of Poulenc's piano music -- Tacchino takes the substantial and debilitating cut that the composer indicated as an option in the new edition of the score. As he made this cut at the request of Poulenc, this is understandable. But listeners new to Poulenc's music should seek out the recording by Pascal Rogé, who plays the suite complete. And for an additional 2 minutes of music in the Final that Poulenc actually excised from the revised edition, Antony Gray will provide the complete original text. Even though i am orchestral conducter and pianist for 31 years and know a lot about composers ...still i never heared about Poulenc !! Francis Poulenc was a great piano virtuoso but also a poet with full of humor and fantasy. Gabriel Tacchino is obviously both. Poulenc's music is completely familiar to her: he knows the spirit, he has the style. Combining rigor and freedom, he succeeds, without breaking the thread of tempo (to which Poulenc was very attached) in giving the appearance of improvisation.
It's so wonderfull he's able to tell stories or conversations or define ambient,, never knew about him,, ; a teacher teached me, if the class is loud you shoulden't be louder than them, simply calm your voice down, lower and they will stop, perhaps, for a minute to listen what's about your telling. Kissis.
I first learned of Poulenc while studying classical guitar, via his “Sarabande,” a delightful piece for beginners. Then forgot about him until now. This is great! Effervescent, simple, charming, but without in any way patronizing the listener.

What was written "on paper" and what was tolerated "in real life" were two separated things (one of the reason of the rise of the protestant reform). Extramarital affairs, even if prohibited by the church, was hardly shocking in France or Italy. In Renaissance time (1450-1550), homosexuality was often referred as the "Italian disease", due to high numbers of Italian artists who were having affairs with other men. Michelangelo was himself a devout catholic and thought to be homosexual. Gays wanted to go to heaven, too, so they didn't ditch their faith, at a time when atheism wasn't a thing imaginable. (Though, in Poulenc time - he died in 1963 - atheism was a thing, so maybe it has something to do with his upbringing.)

I have not heard anyone play Poulenc better than Maestro Tacchino. His playing displays the atmosphere of his Mediterranean Nice and busy Paris.

東日本大震災では、全市全

ました。
これが能登半島の首ねっこ
から先、インフラ寸断で
起こっています。
孤立し、頼みの脚の車も

つい近隣のつもりでも、こ

従兄弟の弟で養子に行った
から、苗字が違うとか、
師範学校の後輩で、相手と

行った人だとか教えてくれ

メンバーのお姑さんが101
歳になってる、と驚いたり
ちゃんと読めて把握できて
いるのが分かり、🐰も
嬉しかったです。
昨年分までは施設にいたの
で、反応が分からなかった
からなおさらです。
🪁の実家を継いだ、叔父
のお嫁さんと電話で話した
事も伝えたら、叔父が生前

が出てきました。
まだいろんな記憶が健在な
様子です。
面会時間が15分で、あっと
いう間に話が中断されます。

I would have thought that "homosexual" and "Catholic devotee" were hardly mutually exclusive categories... 🙂
