    Useful reference for teachers new to using rubrics for marking

    Your rubric is back to front: you should have the grading scale going from highest or superior (left) to lowest or < pass (right). To grade, you move from left to right to see for each category (row) what description is met. This is more natural since people usually read from left to right.

      Grant Trudel I have seen both ways represented about evenly. I personally prefer moving from low to high (as things improve or items or added, etc.)

      This does progress from left to right. This allows the student to progress from incompetence to mastery as they strive to achieve competency of each performance objective (criteria, standard . . .). Do your students start at mastery and progress to incompetence under your tutelage ?
