This is the strongest Supernova line-up we've had ever, hands down. My personal favourite is Citi Zeni, the chorus beat and the lyrics are amazing, it's as if a song has been perfectly constructed for my ears lmao. The Ludvig is a close second, giving Vidbir with the modernised ethnic music, love it. Would be my first if it wasn't for the weak English verses. Tautumeitas and Greta are ones to watch out for, very established in the Latvian music scene and vocally and visually could surprise us and be a walk away winner and I absolutely adore that you have respect for KoBra - Zelts, it is absolutely stunning but realistically it's not a song that will win Supernova as it's just targeting a very niche target market, but it's amazing.
@@Rash23215 Sudden Lights was more accessible as Aija was in English. There was also a clear lack of competition that year compared to this year. Same with Vestules last year, they did absolutely incredible but unfortunately an English song did win over them anyways. This year we have so many different genres and competitors that it's hard for Zelts to stand out.
@@ShanesEurovisionReview I would probably mute Greta's song, or echo/distort it. Will definitely be blocked otherwise. Great video though loved your reactions.
Opening this video with Simone Egeriis - Stay Awake (DMGP runner-up 2013 - the year won by Only Teardrops) really made my day!! Thank you, Shane - you are a legend! What a brilliant and insightful choice. She's such a lovely person, and it warms my heart that you show her this respect 11 years later. The song is sooo uplifting. In any other DMGP besides the 2013-edition with Emmelie de Forest, it would have won. Supernova brings a few catchy songs - but I must admit that Marta-Lovable has turned into quite an earworm for me 🙂
I reckon that, with the right staging, the Ludvig could win Eurovision for Latvia. I know he can sing. Check out his 2017 Supernova song! It just needs the right vision. It currently has the most likes per view on the video right now.
YEEAAAYY almost 50min of Shane, it's my lucky day 😍😉. Minute 4:35 I loved when you said "why is this not loud?" and the song in that exact moment singing "can we get a little bit louder" 🤣🤣🤣. Latvian is beautiful indeed, my son in law (who is Latvian) is teaching me a bit and it's pretty difficult with all the diacritics and different sounds for the same letters, uuufff 😵💫, but I love the sound of it, it's super melodic. Your top10 is definately the weirdest on most varied since a long time 😂😂😂. My two favourites for Eurovision without a doubt are: Luka, The Ludvig and Citi Zeni. And then Justs, Emilija I like but especially Marta and Adelina, I have on my personal playlist since day one. Chris Noah I apreciate, but not enough for daily listening.
Definitely the best Supernova ever! My Top 5: 1. Emilija 2. Citi Zeni 3. The Ludvig 4. Chris Noah 5. Luka The Ludvig and Citi Zeni are probably the best choices for Eurovision.
It always cracks me up when you slander your taste bc 9 times out of 10 i completely agree with you 🤣🤣 KoBra & Greta are 100% my favorite! Already added to my nf playlist! 🤍 I'd also be really happy with Sinergia winning! Kinda reminds me of a more dark/ethnic tears like rain! PALU has been a grower for me and I surprisingly like citi zeni's entry too i think with good staging/energy it could do well! I'm also so close to likeing JUSTS but it feels like a demo? there's sm potential but it falls flat imo :(( Latvia has a lot of pretty good entries to choose from!
Hi again, thanks for this entertaining review! 🥰 I don't want to completely define my first and second place, it depends on the live performance. But here is my approximate ranking: - Citi Zeni "Ramtai" - KoBra "Zelts" - Greta "Monster" Not far from there comes: - Emilija "Heartbeat" I like the chorus, it's cute, but it's repeated too many times so there is a risk to get tired. - Toms Kalderauskis "Dumaju tu nac" - Marta "Lovable" is a cute radiofreindly song too, but not that strong. Have a lovely evening! 😊💖
Tbh i’m quite shocked that you liked KoBra, didn’t think they’d be your vibe. They’re my fave. Hopefully they can bring justice to Vestules from last year.
Loving the reaction as always. I can't believe NF season is back already and we've started off really strong. I loved Montesong and we have a solid FiK and Eesti Laul. The best one so far is imo, Supernova: My top 3 is Tautumeitas Citi Zēni Kobra But I would be happy if Latvia selected any of my top 11, which for a national final with 20 songs is pretty impressive. Also, not to be that person, even if I am always that person, but Sinergija should have done Bound by the light in Latvian and it would have been in my top 3.
Shane’s reaction to literally all of my favourites: “They’ll be fans for this… I’m not one of them”.😂 In all seriousness I think you do subconsciously appreciate the quality even though it’s not to your taste. And you’re right, KoBra is the most accessible of all the indie songs. It almost sounds like a French ballad
Ok Latvia. I'm back on track here Shane. Although I don't have to vibe to all the entries here I have 3 downloads and that's more than usual from Supernova for me The Ludvig I love......reminds me so much of Tanxugueiras and of Fulenn. I loved those, so why not? Synergija is right up my alley. Calm, folksy and beautiful vocals but my number 1 by a country mile is Emilija and "Heartbeat". Throw Away pop? Yes Vacuous 3 minutes? ...probably Cheesey?....definitely But I love, love, LOVE this track. I don't care if this doesn't win. It will be on my playlists for many a year to come. That voice, that uncomplicated composition, that pause with the corny sound of a heart beat. I'm here for it 100% Well done Emilija Please, please, please Latvia. Make me very happy. Pick her for Basel 🙏🙏🙏
I'll try again with my comments Shane. My last just disappeared for some unknown reason. Happened to me a couple of times with ESC Tom last year. Don't understand Anyway, what i was saying was i have 3 downloads from Supernova this year. Many more than usual for me Firstly, The Ludvig. Sounds to my ear like Tanxugueiras and Fulenn. Loved them both so it's a no-brainer for me Secondly. I have Synergija. I'm a sucker for folksy sounds with lovely vocals. Tick But my overall winner and I'm totally obsessed is Emilija and "Heartbeat". Love, love, LOVE! Is it going to change the world. No Is it vacuous pop. Probably Does it have a cheesey pause with a sound of a heart beating?. Yes Yes, yes, YES I don't really care if this doesn't win in Riga. I will have it on my playlists for many years to come. It will make me smile every time. I would be delighted if Latvia sends this to Basel. Go on Latvia. I dare you! 🙏🙏
Hahaha your description of Emilija was the priceless. As you know...we like what we like...regardless of how it may be described by others. That's why I fricking love Eurovision....there's always a bucket load of gold nuggets out there for my tastes 😃
Bro appreciated the BEAT in RAMTAI but he almost fell asleep while listening to it...bruhhh what a boring reaction to that BOPPPP, yea that's the word :)
yeah, they are pretty dumb with this... idk why they are doing this, when no other label seems to do such thing... muting the song should be fine though...
I think so too... unless their staging is absolutely stunning, i think their song would be the "toilet break" for many... especially in televote only semi...
@@TDCT26 well that's ur opinion..... most eurovision fans thought Dons was DOA from the moment he won supernova till the moment he was announced as qualifier in sf..... so, u never know
@@Rash23215 I try to be impartial. Hollow wasn't an obvious qualifier but it was always the type of song people connect with more easily. But since it was Latvia and it wasn't standing out we all thought it wouldn't come through, especially since there was Before the Party's Over in the same semi (until the vocals weren't reached). On the other hand, Kur & Zelts are very slow, acoustic, "jazzy" old-school songs people aren't as likely to vote for in a 16 songs semi-final
