My pawpaw was a west Texas Cowboy born in San Angelo in 1880, and in the late 1890s was a ranch hand on the 2Gs Ranch in Crane County, Texas. I was 14 when he passed away in 1966. He always called his high top boots, "Stovepipe" cause they looked like the straight vent pipe on a pot belly stove.

and those of us in the midwest who didn't wear stovepipe's except for english boots and wore boots up up to the top of our calves made out of leather to move cattle are not Cowboys and Cowgirls? I get your focus on the south like Nevada, TX, CA, etc. because of your person interest and area you reside in AND there was a whole bunch of other states that also had Cowboys as well. We sometimes had to drive cattle south(ish) for the winter and back north once spring came and the grass was lush, before automatic cutters and balers were a thing. The added rainfall in the Midwest thanks to the Great Lakes and major rivers means there’s a lot of high quality pastures and vast amounts of cattle up into the 19th century. We've had lots and lots of cows including massive dairy farms and beef farms.
Maybe you can mention your videos are aimed at the south portion of the US, because some of us in the rest of the country where the cattle and horses had lush grazing didn't have the influences of what is modern day Mexico and still had real Cowboys. Our full chaps were thick and I mean thick, 1/2" thick leather because of the brush we had to go through once you got north of the middle of Iowa. We have famous places you have heard of like Deadwood, SD. It wasn't only the south that had cowboys and our gear needed to be suited to fit our needs.
The generalizations about it being all cowboys when half the nation isn't necessarily represented by your information on this channel is fairly disrespectful to all of those other Cowboys who didn't wear the gear they did in the south and it didn't mean they worked cattle any less or worked any less.

Really great video and information Breven 👍
I've always wanted a pair. I've had a couple of pairs of lineman boots because they went almost to my knees. And they were great for all kinds of terrain but a bit too big for a stirrup.

I would assume that cowboys wear hightop boots for much the same reason that they wear chaps, to protect themselves from brush and such.

Could you show us more examples when discussing clothing/equipment? And maybe talk a little less!

Some, but not enough. Many cattle ranchers use quads to herd cattle now and move them around. There are still some cowboys, but we sure could use some more horsemen, even if they aren't doing anything with cattle.
