His Electric Tears album is a great place to start to listen to his mellow playing, Captain Eo's Voyage LP too. He has songs in many different styles too. I can't decide on the best songs, however, I can give a list of a variety of styles (in no particular order): 1. Beyond the Knowing (acoustic) 2. Pretzel Logic (some kind of jazz fusion/prog rock) This is from Thanatopsis, which is a group of Buckethead and Travis Dickerson 3. The Battery Cage Brawls (metal) 4. Maggot Dream (ethereal/soothing) This is by Death Cube K (anagram of Buckethead), which is another persona of him. I suspect it's a tribute to the song Maggot Brain by Funkadelic and the guitarist Eddie Hazel. Buckethead was part of the group Praxis together with several members of Funkadelic. 5. Binge & Grab (rock) The riff in this song gives a happy, child-like feeling. 6. Time (ballad), This is a song by the band Deli Creeps, which is one of the first groups Buckethead was in, along with the underrated vocalist Maximum Bob. There are many more styles to find as Buckethead is up to, I think 600 albums at this point, and I have not ventured into much of his newer stuff, however, I think this list provides a colorful palette of musical flavor.
Problem is, no-one knows his best songs! There are just too many of them. But those recommended are recommended for a reason. Coming to think if it, there must be a curated (!) best of list 😅. Great stuff, fully enjoyed.
