Christine Baranski is so under-appreciated. This woman is a genius. The nuance and comedic timing is just superb. And Brian, aside from having the voice of a god, is also brilliant. Damn, I wish I had seen this live!!
Brian has a tendency to rock to the beat whenever he sings. And I really like it. No matter if it’s a happy number or a sad number. It just adds to it.
Christine Baranski is brilliant. Her comedic timing is something to behold and she is a very good singer too. I love Patti Lupone's version too. It's a shame Christine doesn't do live musicals as much. She should because she is great at it.
One thing I adore about Baranski's performance here is that she plays the beginning a little differently than most actors do, with actually acting out Mrs Lovett getting the idea to cook Pirelli to the chime of the music.
This might be the best Todd/Lovett duo of all time. Baranski is a comic wonder, and Stokes’ Victorian over-acting works much better than a brooding, impenetrable Sweeney. Also, this song only works if it’s played like this-two people, soaked in blood, hysterical with inappropriate laughter before they embark on something truly evil.
I hope Brian plays the role of the Phantom in POTO. I’m actually quite surprised he wasn’t asked to play the role. His voice is a perfect fit for the role. Let’s hope that he is casted after Ben Crawford ends his run
@rlee1976 no i agree! patti lupone sucked as mrs lovett. However, when i saw it, Judy Kaye played Mrs. Lovett, she was both the original rizo in grease, and the original charlotta in phantom of the opera. That woman was brilliant. A far better singer, actress and comedian than mrs lupone. But ms Baranski is also quite superb.
ITA. BSM was really miscast and was acting on a totally different wave than most of the principal actors. It was still worth the trip to see this KC production

This is so refreshing after seeing CB with that wet blanket Kelsey Grammer. BSM could charm a snake and his laughter is so infectious l. Amazing!!
Baranski really is splendid.
Sondheims lyrics are pure genius!
Her timing and his voice
That’s musical theater heaven!

Stokes's delayed-then-huge reaction to the "privates" joke needs to be a gif
they were GREAT in these roles--thanks so much!!
THANK you for posting this. I got to see this version of Sweeney Todd live, and it was INCREDIBLE.

LuPone was amazing I'm this role when I saw her. Fantastic voice, as always, and her dry wit was hysterical and perfect for the production.
@Splurge24 H.B.C is good though in the film, you've got to admit
christine was great. i expected better from brian

Whoever was handling the camera did a really rotten job of keeping both performers in frame.
