    What a remarkable way for an old horse to go! Look at how he was prancing around. He died of colic the next day, a sickness he was prone to all his life. He lived out his retirement as his famous owner's hunter and hack.

      He was one of the true greats, so sad he passed the following day, the stress might have contributed to his colic. Horse of FIVE years...Won JCGC 5 times ! Broke his own record for 2 miles, a true champion, as was Forego...iron horses.

    Kelso was and, is the greatest racehorse of all-times. Just that he beat more great horses and, good horses than any other racehorse of all-times makes him one hell of a candidate for being that ever was. I was a kid when Kelso raced and, I use to hear all the big fuzz but, as I grew older I have found out just how much greater he was.He not only is the only horse to win the jockey gold cup when it was 2 miles, 5 times, he also holds the 3 fastest timings for it! He also won the horse of the year during those same years, unbelievable. Only 3 horses have ever won the woodward, the whitney and, the jockey gold cup in the same year, Kelso's the only horse to do it two times! Only 4 horses ever won the handicapp triple crown which some say is even harder than the regular triple crown, and kelso is the only one of the four to win it carrying over 130 pounds in all 3 races and, he weighed 1000 pounds if he did. He looked like a deer and, was still carrying all that weight and, beating some really top horses! So interesting is that when he became only the fourth horse to win the handicapp triple crown, he also won the woodward, the whitney and, the jockey gold cup the very same year. Kelso's the only horse to ever do that. They talk about secretariats' belmont perfromance? Why don't they go look at at kelsos' dc international againts the best horses in the world, way better competition than what secretariat had at belmont with sham and, two horses most people can't even name! Kelso did 2:23 4/5 on 3 tight turns on grass for 1 mile and a half! He did the last quater faster than he did the first quater! 23 secounds 4/5. Secretariat did 2:24 flat on 2 huge sweeping turns for 1 mile and, a half on dirt. Now you got some people, and, I've talked to so many experts cross country that say grass is atleast one secound faster than dirt but, if it's true, notice that kelso did it on 3 tight turns which are much harder than those 2 huge sweeping turns at belmont. Than go look at the competition kelso had at the dc! You better believe kelso would have beaten that 2:24 secretariat did at belmont, with those much easier huge sweeping turns. Remember, secretariat was by the rail right from the start of that race, which is the shortest route around any track. Never mind that just 11 days before kelso set that record at the dc, he broke his own record at the jockey gold cup on dirt for 2 miles at 3:19 1/5 and, that was on a sloppy track! You can say kelso was ahead of his time[laugh]. N o other horse has ever done that one neither. Break a record on dirt for 2 miles and, then just 11 days later break a record on grass for 1 mile and, a half!!! They don't even round them that often anymore. Never mind that they don't run 2 miles anymore or carry that much weight. Kelso proved it all. I would have liked to seen secretariat stick around for a while and give away weight to other great and, really good horses in handicapp races to see how darn good he really was. He lost a few as it was. Prove out beat him fair and, square at the woodward. They say Sec wasn't ready for that race that it was soppose to be riva ridge but since it turned out to be a sloppy track and, riva ridge was afraid of sloppy tracks they put in sec. Even if it was true that secretariat was not prepared for that race, prove out being 1 year older was giving away 7 pounds to him, and, if secretariat had a 22 pound heart which was an advantage for the oxegen for him over other horses, what the hell happened to the big heart? Give me a break! He never faced prove out again and, when orove out went to the jockey gold cup he also kicked secretariats' stablemates' butt in that doing 3:20 for two miles and, becoming the secound fastest horse to ever run the 2 miles after the great kelso who holds the 3 fastest timings for that and, is ofcaurse in a class by himself. Kelso was something else, if you go pound for pound kelso was carrying more weight than forego who was 17 hands and weighed about 1,200 pounds. They say kelso was carrying 12 percent of his body weight. You don't need a rocket scientist told tell you that if they put 126 pounds on kelso and, 126 pounds on secretariat it was a bigger burden on kelso who looked like a deer and, weight 200 pounds less. Kelso also had shorter legs than secretariat or forego or even his greatgrandfather man of war. That goes to show you that when they strode those bigger hrses had bigger strides which was an advantage for them yet go look at kelsos' timings! Kelso was in a class by himself and, there will never be another kelso, he was a freak a real phenomenon and, it's so interesting when Eddie Arcaro who rode both said when asked who was greater kelso or citation, that kelso would have beaten the crap out of citation and, citation was a real great horse! Citation did get hurt but, Arcaro rode citation before he got hurt, he would have known. Arcaro was perfect king kelly cause he had strong hands. Kelso didn't do well with Willie Shoemaker cause Willie had soft hands. That's why they gelded the great kelso cause he was one tough little. Even after they gelded him they say he was never really a nice horse[laugh]! Kelso was the greatest and, anybody who wants to argue that I will be more than glad to explain that to.

      TEDDYBEAR, in "The Way it Was," Secretariat and Citation episode, Eddie Arcaro mentioned that he's going to tell you that Citation is the greatest horse.
      Arcaro also mentioned in that same episode that no performance in horse racing history has ever matched Secretariat's Belmont.

      Arcaro's comment is reported in a conversation with Dick Jenkins as published on the Colin's Ghost website. It probably was never a public comment by Arcaro. [EDIT: I see that TEDDYBEAR personally knew Dick Jenkins]

      TEDDYBEAR...Teddy Lopez...whoever. It's the same spiel from you every time. Kelso never ran a mile and a quarter faster that 2:00, nor a mile and an eighth under 1:48, but we're supposed to believe that Kelso would have run a mile and a half on dirt better than 2:24. Hilarious. He ran 2:30 in his only dirt attempt at that distance. Secretariat was bigger, had a bigger heart, longer stride....blah, blah, blah. So, based on your misguided rationale, when we're looking at for example all time basketball greats, Jabbar and Chamberlain should be placed lower than other players because it wasn't fair that they were so tall. Please. Kelso greatest pound for pound horse of all time - yeah, I'd probably buy that. Greatest of all time - nope, sorry. This all being said, it was great to see the NYRA get these two horses out for the public to see, and just in time for Kelso who unknowingly would pass away the next day.

      You're right, the ride was too much for him, and, he probably thought he was gonna race again. He was and, is the greatest racehorse of all-times. No horse did some of the things kelso did and, what boggles the mind most is that he looked like a deer and, about 900 something pounds, he was the most awesome thing. He was very special, in as class by himself. Her was 27 years old when he passed. Poor kelso was a very old horse. He left alot of great memories. I'll never forget him.

    Sadly, Kelso died soon after he returned home to Delaware from this appearance.. Not a good idea to remove an older (old) horse from his familiar home and surrounding, ...even for the great honor it was for him. It more than likely hastened his death.

      Andy Beyer assigned the highest speed figure of all time to Count Fleet, not Secretariat.

    • @ValleyoftheRogue
      @ValleyoftheRogue 4 місяці тому

      @@captainamericaamerica8090 Not his fault. At least be intellectually honest, which you are not being at all. It is pretty much the consensus by racing experts that Secretariat was the greatest racehorse of all time. He was nearly knocked down in his first start, was DQ'd in his second, had an abscess in the Wood, was sick with a fever in the Whitney, and was run as a last minute replacement for Riva Ridge in the Woodward. These were NOT because he was a "mediocre" horse but a result of things out of his control. Kelso would have fared the same. So would Citation. So would Man O'War. I don't tolerate dishonesty, and I absolutely won't from the few, very few and very ignorant, Secretariat detractors.

    • @ValleyoftheRogue
      @ValleyoftheRogue 4 місяці тому

      @@RichardHartley-x3x That is a lie, too. Beyer assigned Secretariat a 148 following the Belmont, which was the highest speed he ever assigned a horse. You don't get to make things up that can be easily challenged.

    • @ValleyoftheRogue
      @ValleyoftheRogue 4 місяці тому

      It was 148 following the Belmont. No other horse he ever did speed figures on compares.
