Great to see you back. I just hit my 64th year with type 1. YIKES…..Anyway, from my experience, periodic anxiety and depression are simply two additional parts of type 1. Each day we are constantly reminded that we are doing something wrong in our endless attempt to be “normal.” Whenever anxiety rears its’ ugly head, I simply accept it as just another part of type 1. If you Google “Type 1 diabetes and depression”, you will find a gigantic world of research. As far as bent cannulas goes, after 35 years on the pump, I had to switch back to shots as I had so much abdomen area scar tissue. The good news is that the latest insulin pens are handy and painless. Keep up your great work.

Nice to see a video from you! Congratulations on the move! I’m so glad that you prioritized your mental health. The first baby, especially, can be such a difficult adjustment. I had a fussy first baby and no family help, and I honestly just felt suffocated a lot of the time. I sought help for postpartum depression and felt better. Baby number two was smooth sailing. :) I’m glad you and baby are happy and healthy!

Thank you so much! I'm sorry you struggled with postpartum depression with your first. It's definitely an overwhelming time. I'm glad to hear that baby number 2 was easier 🥰

Congrats on your new home! Im so happy for you all. I experienced a bit of depression with my 2nd daughter that lasted for about 7-8 months. When I had both my daughters, in 1995 and 1997, I breastfed them and always had low blood sugars. The more I weaned them the more insulin I needed. I first started my Minimed pump in 1997. I ended up using my legs because I would dislodge the site when I was holding my daughters. I had to completely go off the pump for a while just because the old infusion tape and site needles ( no cannulas at first) would scar my skin and I had very little good areas. I'm grateful for your channel. It brings back so many happy memories. I now will have the joyful chance avoiding sites that my new grandson will want to grab. Right now I use my back. I have a lot of grandma padding so its now easier, lol.

Congratulations on the new house! We just had our baby 3 weeks ago and even though I’m the dad, my blood sugar has gone nuts. It’s fun. Glad to hear things turned around at 4-5 months for you, that’s when my first daughter started to settle down a bit. Looking forward to more videos!

Welcome back. I had bent cannulas as well. Obviously not cause of being pregnant (impossible for me) but because I’m so thin. Tandem recommended I start using the Trusteel. Which I have worked flawlessly.

Ahh a lot of people have told me to try it, but the 2 day site changes are a turn off for me. Do you change your site exactly every 2 days, or can you let them go a bit longer?

First of all, congrats on your newborn. Now, about the sites. For me, since November, half of my sites failed due to bent canulas. Nothing to do with pregnancy, at least for me, 43 year old male here....
I suspect some low quality controlled batch

congratulations on the great changes in your life! :) as for the sites, i switched to metal cannulas a while ago cause i got tired of never knowing for sure whether it's going to bend or not. not related with giving birth tho :)

Thank you! I've been putting off trying the metal cannulas, but I really should give them a chance!

Hi Michelle, looks like you are smoothly adjusting to a new phase in life. It gets easier as she grows and of course you grow too. I recall you mentioning a belt clip for your tandem pump many years ago. Please refresh my memory cause my present clip is over-drawn and driving me absolutely crazy. Keep up the Good Work of encouraging us T1D.

Congrats on your new baby, I'm a T1D and expecting one, do you know what are the he odds of my baby having T1D? I was told somewhere between 7-12 % probabilities. What are your thoughts?

    • @MichelleLord
      @MichelleLord  2 роки тому

Thank you, and congrats on the upcoming baby!! The risk of a child developing T1D depends on sex and age of the parent. This article sums it up well. Apparently the lowest odds is if the T1D parent is female and above 25 when giving birth 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Hi Michelle. I saw you were concerned by the thought of using the Tru-steel cannulas because they are supposed to be changed every 2 days. I am not a medical professional, but I change my sites every 3 days with my Tru-steel infusion sets with no problems. To tell you the truth, at first I didn't realize that when I switched from the soft cannulas to the Tru-steel that I was supposed to change every 2 days. I actually switched to Tru-steel about 3 months after I started pumping because I got so many bent cannulas and the resulting high blood sugars were driving me nuts. Since using the Tru-steel, I haven't had any regrets about changing to it. To tell you the truth, I don't think I would have stayed on the pump if Tru-steel weren't available. You may want to think about giving it a try.

Bent cannulas are the WORST, also so annoying that the t-slim doesn’t always alert you! So happy to hear you and the baby are doing well otherwise! Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy 2022! ☺️

I don't have any children yet and I've been getting bent tubing as well. I've noticed they keep changing the plastic and it's not nearly as durable now... My tubing even broke while I was sleeping about a month ago!

My 6 year old was just diagnosed Type 1. Your videos are so helpful and incredibly hopeful and uplifting seeing how happy, healthy, and confident a person can be having diabetes. You show us how life can be so completely normal and diabetes is just one part of who you are. Thank you so much for these videos.

Congrats on the new house! Sounds like a lot of significant changes in the last few months - adjusting to mom life, moving, etc. Really admirable how you manage all of that plus diabetes and simultaneously are willing to share the less 'ideal' parts like anxiety and bad sites! I've commented this before on another video but I've been really afraid of being a mother and having T1D but your journey with it makes it seem really compatible and worth it, despite the hardships and struggles! So thank you so much for that!!

It is good to see a new video Congratulations on the new house! Miss Eden is very lucky to have such great and loving parents. Enjoy every moment it goes by so fast! I would love to know how you keep your blood sugars in range. I have a Dexcom G6 and Omnipod pump. It looks like you are doing a great job with you diabetes. If you have time. K

Awww thank you 💖! I'm going to do a "day in the life" video soon where I show how I manage my diabetes throughout the day, but to give you an idea for now...I eat relatively the same types of meals on a day-to-day basis, so I know how to carb count them. I am also pretty active all day while taking care of Eden, so if anything I struggle with lows rather than highs. The tslim + Dexcom Control IQ software has also really come in handy during this time, as it will tweak my basal depending on my Dexcom readings. My blood sugars are far from perfect, and I still get frustrated with them, but I just do the best I can :)

i needed to see t his about infusion set site issues. im 2weeks postpartum and ive had two sites in my stomach and both just crap. i was starting to wonder if i was having renewed insuiln resistance. today i was suspecting it was because my stomach is one giant scar tissue now since its covered in stretch marks. glad you and so many other women are able to comment online and talk about this. my endocrinologist has no clue about this part of postpartum. i was starting to go crazy honestly. and wondering if i had to go lowcarb forever.
just changed my site somewhere not my stomach so lets hope that was the issue for me too
