  • Many beginning pipers do not engage their squeezing arm enough when playing, so I devised the CRUSH OUT method exercise to help build strength and endurance. Check it out!

    The best thing is discovered is to jam the bag as far as possible under my arm pit. It gives more control and it is easier to squeeze because you have more leverage.

    • @MattWillisBagpiper
      @MattWillisBagpiper  Рік тому

      If too high, it can cause the upper arm to be at an angle greater than 45° and this the squeezing applies more of a downward force than an inward force. But overall yes, the bag does need to be pretty high.

      @@MattWillisBagpiper My problem was pushing and trying to control the bag with my elbow. As I got the bag higher up, under my arm, I was in more control and had more force.

    Good video ;) But i do believe it also depends on the bag size, right ?

    • @MattWillisBagpiper
      @MattWillisBagpiper  2 роки тому +1

      To a degree l, but a smaller bag would likely go with easier reeds. Everything relatively proportional

    Matt, one specific question to you, if I may. Question to which I haven’t received a satisfactory answer yet. I am 6:3 and 225Lbs. I have always had troubles in finding the right breathing cycle (inflate- deflate). I am now playing with a EXTENDED SMALL bag. Do you think that changing bag size would be beneficial to me? And if yes, should I go MEDIUM, EXTENDED MEDIUM or LARGE? Thank you very kindly in advance of your highly welcomed and appreciated advise. Ciao

    • @MattWillisBagpiper
      @MattWillisBagpiper  2 роки тому +1

      How long are your arms for your build? If long, a large may be best. If not, a medium (or extended medium). The small is going to be far to small in my opinion. I play a medium bag most of the time and I'm only 5'6" (though have fairly long arms for my height).

    • @gppasini7620
      @gppasini7620 2 роки тому

      @@MattWillisBagpiper Thanks Matt! I have long arms for my build. So I guess I should try a large. On a different note, I can't believe how quick and generous you are with your advise. You are truly an inspirational teacher, educator. Thanks again and God bless.

    • @gppasini7620
      @gppasini7620 2 роки тому

      @@MattWillisBagpiper One very last question about this: is it going to be much harder playing on a LARGE than a EXTENDED SMALL? I that guess this stems from the idea that, as a large bag requires more air to be filled in, well, as a consequence, the large bag should be also harder to get it going.... Is the above a “false friend” kind of thinking? Thanks Matt!!!

    • @MattWillisBagpiper
      @MattWillisBagpiper  2 роки тому +1

      The large will take longer to inflate, but will likely feel easier to control/squeeze than the small. If concerned about making such a large jump in size, even a medium would be a big improvement in my opinion.

    • @gppasini7620
      @gppasini7620 2 роки тому
