Just so I get a clear understanding as I haven’t gotten a nissan knov style key job yet, even though its a knob style key, the key must be cut in order for the switch to open just like any regular ignition switch?

You need to be aware that are a number of nissan BCM part numbers that will become corrupt if you try to add a key or all keys lost , I will look the part numbers up and post them later .

This vehicle has a known fault, which may affect users attempting to program keys. This fault can occur in an all keys lost or spare key situation.
This fault can result in a non-start condition. At the time of writing, there is no known repair for this fault.
The fault results from a bad batch of BCMs. Users are advised to check the part number of the BCM to see if it is one of the known problem BCMs. If the BCM is one of the affected ones, users are advised to proceed with extreme caution.
(This list only contains the modules known at the time of writing. lIt is recommended to cross-check with secondary sources.)

Aftermarket, BTW at the time of the video universal keys were not compatible with this model
