I consider myself an excel gun, but lord have mercy your videos have made me realise how little I know. I just started with PowerBI and it feels like an untapped universe for me, but your videos have made it far less daunting.
Thank you so much for this incredible series!

Thanks for your fantastic comment. 15 years ago I thought I knew it all. Today I’m wise enough to know I’ll never know it all 😀. We’re all learning from those who have gone through the pain of not knowing. Thanks for following along and please share with others.

@@AccessAnalytic My company already has been bombarded with your YT links :D
If I could make a suggestion for another video? Cohort analysis. We do a lot of monthly and quarterly analysis, as well as a handful of YoY analysis, and knowing how to build a flexible model for this that can be sliced would be a bit of a gamechanger.
There's not a lot of useful cohort videos/guides especially at the quarterly level, and it would be especially interesting to know if this could work alongside the Calendar table too!
      Thanks again :)

Smooth! I once heard "I did not have time to write a short letter so I have written a long one". I really appreciate the time and effort you have put into this short video. I have no doubt it took a long time. With a great deal of thought and maybe even testing before you have posted it. I know there are many hour of video's and pages in books and blogs that have tried to explain Dax to beginners. This is the BEST one! Thanks yet again Wyn.

The way you compare DAX with Excel is very nice. As an Excel user, I now learn DAX a lot easier. At first I found DAX was very hard to understand, as I always had Excel "framework" in my mind. Thanks!

Nice intro for a newbie. Thanks. It's a useful insight because a couple of videos on YT are saying that DAX looks a bit like normal Excel functions so it's easy. But that's rubbish...the logic is completely different even if the name of the function is similar. Coming from an Access background more than Excel it's useful to see it a bit like SQL which is all about joining tables and filtering. The other thing is WHERE to put these functions because of course in Excel you just stick a function in a cell. I'm now getting a handle on this data model thing. I'm now primed to do some work on this tomorrow. Cheers.

You are absolutely right, dax works on a typically database fashion. Actually under the hood there is a colunar database, as explained by Mike Marvin on Excellfuns!

Just watched this video: this kind of videos/explanation is simply essential to teach the beginners the concepts of DAX.
Yes, I’m quite a bit further up the DAX learning curve than this, but your video explains things in easy terms. Not many people succeed in doing that. Did you make an entire series like this? Did you put them in a playlist? I’d be happy to refer to it!

Hi, that's using Excel Tables (Ctrl T) and adding a Slicer (it's one of the options in the Excel Ribbon that displays after turning data into a Table. It's not DAX related but a way of me trying to physically illustrate the way to think about how DAX works.

Hi Wyn, Great Video, DAX does seem powerful. Although, I have a question. I have a data model that does not show up any links displayed in Diagram view, but if I look at the three tables two have links beside the table names. So I am thinking that these somehow reference the third via DAX. So how could I reveal the DAX used in this case?

@@AccessAnalytic Thank you very much for the reply, but I still do not understand/recognise what is the environment that you build or start the table ... Is it excel? ....it might be; but probably the menu is in a form that helps you and I really can't follow what and most importantly where you are doing it.....These collapsing menus are very confusing....I am a heavy excel user to lift any doubts about my skills, but do not know how to use DAX and most importantly where to find it..... Is it in excel, is it somewhere else? Like when you build a macro then with vba language (...... so dax is a language ....) you edit this macro in the vba editor by pressing Alt+F11 (....so DAX lives in ..... and you can call it with......).
