    I sold on Amazon for a short time. The first return I had they paid the customer out of my money. Never gave me the item back, never told me why it was returned and had no accounting to go with it. Took my stuff back and sold on eBay ever since.

    There are certain categories of books that are difficult to get ungated in, like textbooks, national geographic, and a bunch of different brands that require manufacturer receipts.

    • @amc2698
      @amc2698 3 місяці тому

      This is more and more frequent now. With Amazon you have to be very careful to make sure you can actually sell the item before purchasing it. Also store receipts do not work anymore and they want them to be directly from manufacturer/distributor. Then there is also the chance that even if you are able to sell an item, the manufacturer can send you threatening letters telling you to stop selling the product. A lot of headaches with Amazon.

    Great content. I'm just getting started at reselling, and have watched many of your videos. I appreciate that your messages are concise and provide valuable information with minimal fluff. Regarding metrics, can you share more of what your typical targets or thresholds are for on-going metrics like ROI, margin % and $, etc.? I'm just starting with Flipwise (very nice job with this software) and don't have enough data to draw trends yet, but like to set goals and would like to get an understanding of realistic ranges for things. And for the benefit of others, I'd like to echo your sentiments about being proactive to list consistently. That's a great leading metric, whereas ROI, margin, and number of sales are lagging metrics. I find it's important to keep those in the right perspective. Thanks again.

    It's a lot of work to build up a consistently viable Amazon seller account. It took me a year of hard work to get a reliable monthly income. I like it now but do not recommend it to Ebay sellers.
    It's great for items you might not be comfortable buying on Ebay. For example, I've had success selling: replacement chainsaw blades, homeopathic children's medication, recessed lighting kits, and ceiling fan blades.
    If I personally needed any of those items, I wouldn't feel comfortable buying them on Ebay. In fact, I would be inclined to spend slightly more for "perceived" new and accurately represented products direct from Amazon warehouse.
    Even though many of the items I buy from Amazon warehouses come from other small sellers on Amazon like myself.

    Do you leave feedback for a buyer after they pay or after the thirty day return window is over? I had been leaving it after they pay, but then I think I just got scammed by a buyer.

    • @CarolanRoss
      @CarolanRoss 3 місяці тому +2

      I only leave feedback for buyers AFTER they have left positive feedback for me. There's no one 'right' way as many other sellers handle it differently, but I don't feel comfortable giving feedback for simply paying. I don't think you can change feedback once left, and so if a buyer turns out to be a real pain, I'd regret the positive remark.

    Sorry Justin, this has to be said clearly and forcefully. On eBay, a seller has to select a shipping service. If a seller offers one service, and then downgrades the shipping to earn extra profit, that's the kind of thing that gives ALL sellers, not just the one doing it, a bad rap. If someone wants to ship the most economical way, then learn what that is and offer that up front. If someone can't do that, then they should STOP SELLING!

    Everyone seems concerned about SEO and the ebay algorithm but as long as your item is showing up somewhere in the search results, isn't that (mostly) all that really matters?
    Aren't most buyers going to re-sort the search results by "lowest price" or "ending soonest" anyway?

    • @Zweihorne
      @Zweihorne 3 місяці тому +2

      I agree with the way you're looking at it (prioritizing your item showing up in search results related to that item).
      I've noticed that my items will often sell even when priced on the higher end of similar items. Price is only one factor. Pictures, condition, quality, listing title... There are so many things that go into SEO that I find my time is better spent focusing on the basics: Source and list more in demand items and let eBay figure out the rest.

    QUESTION: What is a fair profit split in your opinion? As friends learn that I sell stuff on eBay, they will ask if they can give me some of their stuff, I sell it on eBay, and we split the profit. I have done this several times but am always on the fence about what a fair profit split would be since I am doing all of the work (researching, photographing, listing, and shipping). Have you ever encountered this scenario yourself? What would be a fair split be in your opinion? Or is this kind of arrangement not a fruitful use of time/money? I'm open to new ways of approaching the idea.
    Thanks as always - your videos are so helpful!

    There’s another reason why a seller may drop ship something. It could be something that they had in stock, but they’re unable to find it. Sometimes buying it from another seller, even if you have to pay more, is better than getting the ding on your defective rate

      Not Justin, but I can tell you my perspective. It only matters if you list your items as auctions, because you want people to be awake and bidding when the auction is about to end. If you list it as Buy It Now, it doesn't matter what time it gets listed or when it ends. It will be automatically renewed every 30 days anyway. • @Johnny_Ultimate
    @Johnny_Ultimate 3 місяці тому

    in regards to best offer listings being bumped to the top. My thoughts are that best offer listings don't get any priority for two reasons. 1. The "hack" would be to put best offer on everything and set the best offer minimum price as close to your asking price as ebay allows (then just refuse any offer anyway). 2. If best offer listings were promoted, then that would take away from promoted listings. Ebay makes BANK off of that. Why would they add conflicting but similar ways to "get to the top"?

      Add white vinegar to the rinse. It works as a natural fabric softener and helps remove odors and the residue of previous laundry products. Then hang the item outside to dry in the fresh air. Depending on how much fabric softener the previous person used, it may take multiple washes to get the stench out.

    Regarding carriers. I have found that FedEx started adding shipping fees after several weeks, revising the size and weight. Now, UPS is beginning the same.
    I think they are increasing their audits, almost all done by machine. I found a big spot to be careful is the one cubic foot area, for instance, a 12 x 12 x 12 box. If the carrier increases dimension by one inch, it throws you out of the small box category and increases the weight. This will double the price. This is one example; there are many more, which makes figuring out hard shipping costs much more complicated.
