    Great radio and good to see it restored back to how it should be. Radios of that era can give a great deal of pleasure tuning around the bands. Well done!

      Ah yes a nostalgia trip for sure... I may have done the radio a disservice when I peak tuned the input as it will overload the front end that more easily but the new MW performance was worth any potential drawback.

      Thanks HH, I hadn't seen any around for a while either when I stumbled on this radio on eBay, ones in mint condition still fetch good prices.

      Thanks Tom, this unit has a bit of nostalgia but the speaker and bass boost give FM especially an excellent reproduction quality.

      +hamrad88 I know what you mean, I often get pipped at the post on auctions (even using sniper bidding software), I just put it down to karma and keep looking...

      +SpectreOZ Up until two weeks ago I checked eBay every morning but I am so far behind on other things, don't have time right now.

    That Panasonic sure is nice. I'm currently in the process of cleaning up a Viscount multiband radio, and it's taking a bit longer than expected to clean it up. It's looking alot better than it did before, but it still needs some scrubbing.

    • @SpectreOZ
      @SpectreOZ  8 років тому +1

      Indeed elbow grease is an under rated product, I must check this Viscount out...

    Hello Mr OZ Cool radio. And a very interesting and useful way to Aline the set.
    All my best.

      Thanks Bobby, just making do with what was on hand, unfortunately the accuracy of the band selector is still +/- 500khz on shortwave.
      I am kind of tempted to add LED dial lights...

    • @tectalabyss
      @tectalabyss 8 років тому

      +SpectreOZ You did great considering you didn't have a signal generator. Have you looked on Flea-bay :) Sometimes you can get a deal. and even some of the made in China ones do a pretty good job. The radio works very well so. I wouldn't worry to much about it. The Led's sound like a cool modification. I really enjoy the repair videos,thank you for the upload.
      All my best.
      Bobby.

      @SpectreOZ  8 років тому

      +Bobby Tectalabyss A signal generator would be useful but I couldn't really justify purchasing one for the odd occasion, perhaps if I am lucky one might pop up for a price/deal I just cannot refuse.

    I never saw a radio being line up like that ever. It is neat how the dial can be aligned to the sations properly. The battery compartent is a common issue. It is a bloody shame that they don't have a metal that would resist such corrosion from leaking batteries.

    • @SpectreOZ
      @SpectreOZ  8 років тому +1

      Thanks for your comment Andy, that is a very rough'n'ready method of aligning a radio with an acceptable end result, obviously a well equipped radio workshop would have done it differently.
      It can be a shame when someone starts messing about with a screw driver randomly inside electronic equipment (especially radios).

    • @Tobinindustrial
      @Tobinindustrial 8 років тому +1

      I am sure you were confident of the result of your tweak. It is when somebody don't have a clue but goes at it anyway. That is the shame. We'd all like a well stocked test bench but the test gear is overpriced for the most part.

      +Andy Tobin I started out as a tinkering teenager and learnt quite early on what messing with the rear of the variable capacitor block could/would achieve... you learn by fixing your mistakes IMHO.

    • @Tobinindustrial
      @Tobinindustrial 8 років тому

      No doubt, the more "cadaver" radios you have the more you can learn through trial and error. Sadly, some pristine radios have been screwdrivered all in the same name of science. HEHEHE. Learning can be an expensive lesson. Thankfully, the bulk of the gear we start off learning on is old junk.

    Buenas noches...Ya te seguí...Quiero hacerte una pregunta...Como hago para cuadrar el dial del radio GX300 que no puedo instalar la cuerda...Muchas gracias por su ayuda..🖒

    • @SpectreOZ

      There is a large wheel (for the tuning cord) on the other side of the circuit board (tuning capacitor), you could adjust that to your preferred frequency and leave it there 👍

  • @philireland1678

    Hi there,
    I've just picked up one of these radios. I love it, just cleaned the pots and wave change and switches. The radio works very well but I noticed the dial scale is way out of alignment (not the received frequencies). I tried to set it but it's got me beat! I need to centre the dial film so at both ends where there's a stop, the scale lines up. I don't want to undo the dial cord under any circumstances! Any suggestions?
    Cheers...... Phil

      @SpectreOZ  5 років тому

      Hi Phil congrats on your purchase, it's been a while since I had that radio apart however I do recall there being no physical stop at either end of the dial and over winding the dial caused loss of calibration, I would have to take mine apart again to confirm just how calibration can be achieved 👍

      Mine has 2 little moulded stops on the main tuning wheel to stop overwinding. I have noticed a small Phillips head screw in the end of one of the rollers and they other roller has a spring tensioner. Perhaps the screw is an adjuster. I'll have to get my magnifiers on and look closer.
      Great radio, very sensitive and fun to play with.
      Thanks for ur reply, good DX!
      Cheers........ Phil

      It's in fairly good shape, I think I have a dry soldered joint yet to sort but apart from that, goes well. 😄

      It sounds like dirty contacts, what kind of environment was it primarily used in? Humid? Salty Ocean air? I was only having intermittent issues with the band selector 👍

    hi SpectreOZ how did you clean the band switch contacts? i just bought a panasonic psb fm am. had the same corrosion problem as you. i used wd 40 an a toothbrush and i will clean up with some rubbing alcohol.

    • @SpectreOZ
      @SpectreOZ  6 років тому

      Hi Doug, congrats on your purchase these radios produce lovely sound especially in FM, as for the band switch I think simple actuation did the trick although a little contact cleaner may have been applied as well :)

    • @dumbdumbdougie
      @dumbdumbdougie 6 років тому

      SpectreOZ got it cleaned and working! I just wish i was able to plug in my phone or an mp3 player and have it run through the tone and bass controls. not just the mic knob. Do you think if i called a repair shop they would be able to rewire the mic input through those?

    • @SpectreOZ
      @SpectreOZ  6 років тому

      Hi Doug, I've considered this further and all you need is a 3.5mm stereo input adapter cable terminated in a 5 pin (male) DIN plug to use the phono input on the radio, currently using the mic input the radio is concurrently in operation and the volume control effect that function directly.

    • @SpectreOZ
      @SpectreOZ  8 років тому +1

      The case screws are on the back, care fully check for any additional screws I think there was one under the battery compartment and another near the circuit board, been a while and I've had a few radios apart since then.
      See how you go and if you get stuck PM me a message and I will disassemble my radio again to refresh my memory of the process :)
