1. What's your I.S.P. download/upload speeds ? 2. Will your home networking (i.e. Router/switches, firewalls, ISP's gateway) equipment support that 10gb speed ? A.K.A. How much do you pay for internet service ? 3. Do you have cable or DSL ? Hopefully, not dial-up. LOL... Your biggest bottleneck, is your slowest connection point. I.S.P. = Internet service provider On the other hand. You gained a new subscriber today. Great videos.
I have eliminated all of my ISP's equipment from the network, and am running 10gb nic's on all of my computers through a 10gb Mikro Tic switch. I think it is something in proxmox I have configured wrong or slightly off. Still working on it though.
Good Video and thanks for sharing. I was planning to put a 10gig card in my HP machine. I have Proxmox running on that machine. I know that HP uses a different card. I think an Intel 520 but i wasn't sure how to install it and let Proxmox take advantage of it. Your video helps me with that.
This stuff is super complex. Every video I watch leaves me with more questions than answers. Seems the internet connection would be the bottleneck for a 10G nic. If so why connect to internet and not just use it for file transfer? My cable internet connection wont utilize a 1 GB nic. . All the videos I have found are either a video for first graders giving no tech details or a masterclass using console commands, acronyms, and product model numbers fired out like a shotgun. Where do you guys get your info? Do you all work in tech fields?
I have a background in roadway construction not tech. It's just a hobby that I have been playing around with for the last couple of years. As far as getting info just check out the forums like dells and normally people have already posted the question you have or they will try to help you out. What can I do to make the videos less confusing?
Hi, Lo-Res., For some reason the "Active" column under network stays "No" for enp12so (enp4s0f1, in your setup) even after updating the /etc/network interface and rebooting the pve. Do you know why/how it can be resolved? The vmbr1 bridge shows it is active, but there is no live connection.
Lo-Res, I may suggest making another another vm and on the same bridge and see what type of throughput you'll get. That would at least test the drivers to see if the bottleneck is there first.
I am using this card with a Mikrotik router and it has no problems routing traffic, but I did run into issues with this card having no drivers for windows desktop. So if you are going to buy a 10gb card I would suggest getting a mellanox card. I have a couple of them and they seem to work with everything. Hope this helps.
Dell Mellanox CX322A and MNPA19-XTR are the two models I have had a lot of luck with. Sorry I'm not sure about the motherboard. I have never owned or used one.
Im not in this topic but I would use the card to connect the server to the other machines in the room. It is a no sense to connect the server to internet through the 10 gb. This is another story and my ISP say many lies when speaks about that.
The reason you get inconsistent thruput is that your sending across virtual interfaces Setup a pc with a physical cable to the 10gb and it will be accurate
i like this channel .well done
Good to hear. Thank you

3:26 wouldn't ifdown -a & ifup -a do?
did you resolve the issue with throughput ?, if so what changes did you make!
Yep it was my hard drives
@@LoResDIY damn never think about my hard drive :) was looking for this issue for weeks

Glad I could help
Did you adjust MTU parameters on you 10Gb card configuration?
Yep, it turned out my hard drives couldn't support the speed
Cheers
😁@@LoResDIY
@@LoResDIY Pretty sure hard drives don't impact iperf performance...

Did you ever get the kinks worked out?
No, something shiny went by and distracted me.
Have you tried changing the MTU to 9000? I'm having similar issues and trying to mess around with that.
Yep I did change it to 9000 on all devices involved, but didn't see a change. Thanks for the suggestion.
If you are planning on just using the new interfaces for VM Clients then you don't need to add an IP address.
Thanks for the info. Appreciated!!

10-4 I will give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion.
