Great video, very informative. A tip though, instead of using paper towel, I generally use a small soft brush when cleaning delicate parts. Any brush that is designed for makeup near eyes from the dollar store is excelent for these kind of tasks.

Awesome video! Recently grabbed a pair of k240df and man did they need a good clean. Only had the confidence to break it down because of your guide. My foam did the exact same thing, disintegrated on contact

Nice video! I just found a AKG K280 at a yard sale, & 1 of the 4 drivers isnt working. Looks like the same basic build, but Im prettty sure the driver is blown, as it looks connected.
Anyhow, I am impressed with the sound... nice mids & highs. Im just not sure I can find parts!

Thanks for this video. Surprisingly not a huge amount of info on these then I found your video and it’s very informative! I ordered a pair of the sextett (not sure if they’re ep, mp or lp) and a pair of the monitors so this will definitely come in handy if I need it. Thank you!

Did you notice a sound difference without the foam? I just removed mine pre-emptively as I'd hate for the foam to go all bitsy like that. The foam between the ear and pad did that to me.

Hi, I bought these for 40 euros and used them every day for 6 months and this long 3 meter cable started losing connection, I took the metal cap off and thought something was wrong cos I couldnt see the screw, but thanks to you video I saw that it was just under this glue or whatever it was. Now I only need to find another cable to solder on

Is it possible to take the foam from the back off to make them full open back instead of semi open back?

Hi zeth, I have a pair of k240 sextett LPs and they have the same foam problem. I was wondering if taking the foam out to get more soundstage and maybe free up the radiators would be worth taking them apart and losing some of that close sound on the LPs in particular.
Also, the pads it came with were shot and I was thinking about getting some velours for soundstage, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to stop chasing sub bass just yet. I'd love to hear your recommendations if you have any. Thanks

Thanks for reaching out! I strongly suggest sticking with leather pads or pleather pads for they definitely will help keep that subbase that you are definitely gonna be wanting, since lots of the AKG K240 models are lacking in the low range to begin with.
As for soundstaging I feel as though the foams actually help EQ more than they do with the widening of the headphone. Lots more nasal with the foams. So if you want that mid range to pop out, keep the foams, and I personally love the sound for monitoring voice. But the sound for music might be jarring or dark, so you might reach for the EQ in some cases to add a shelf. But also most models vary. One of my pairs is pretty airy, while another woth the beyerdybamic DT880 velour pads, is somewhat unchanged.
So I'd suggest the beyers velour for sure no matter what, and keep the foams. Or ditch the foams and keep the leather pads.

@@vitaminzeth3742 Thanks for the response! I was thinking about doing the leather pads and ditching the foams but I wasn't sure if that was going to blow out the mid bass too much. I think I might go with the leathers in that case if the leathers don't hurt the front and back sound stage that much. As they sit the grills are resting on my ears and could definitely use a drop in mids. Thanks again for the response!

I binned my original ear pads because they'd so badly decayed they were chucking little black bits everywhere, Got some cheapo fake leather replacements, gave everything a wipe over, Unfortunately the headband is really wonky.

Luckily for you Thomas they still make the special foam part that feels inside behind the baffle plate and the parchment paper that's covered by the plastic casing. What you can simply do is go to a website like thomman and try to email them about a special order for the foam part. It's something that I haven't been able to do for I've gotten a little lazy and would prefer to have a basslight headphone - but some other people who have commented on my videos have mentioned to try to Source the part so that you can get this headphone back to its original state. If you live in the United States I know that there's also a website where you could order special specific parts for AKG headphones and other headphones but I totally forgot what the website was called. I hope that this can help you so far find your way through to getting the headphones back to the tip top shape for you.

Hi VitaminZeth. I was cleaning the left monitor and one wire came off. I can't figure out where it goes. Can you please describe wiring connections in it? Thanks.

Hello Mari! APologies about what happened, I will say, you might need to look at some old documents and stuff - might need to know how to read wiring schematics.
I'm only saying this because, I actually ruined my extra pair of K240 Monitors trying to wire it - SO I might not be the best person :( OH - On top of that, Each sextett or K240 in general may or may not have extra wires that need attention. So I sadly might not be much help here.
Here might be some sources to start:
