In real life, not every fairytale has a happy ending. More often than not, the ending is dramatic. The story takes place in 1978. A naïve orphan straight from provincial boarding school moves to a noisy overpopulated capital city. Sasha is 18 already and it’s time for her to start her independent adult life.
She gets hired by the All-Union House of Fashion Models as a cleaner. Thus her journey from an unassuming janitor to a famous model begins. Sasha’s life is not devoid of men’s attention.

OMG! Don't know how this got into my feed but I'm glad I took a chance and watched it. It's very well written and well portrayed. Looking at this movie, its plot, it's settings, it's characters- it's very evocative and emotional but in an inspiring and encouraging way. To put it simply: if we stripped away the country it's supposed to be in and simply focus on the characters and their journeys, it all boils down to humanity and a sense of kindness through hardships. In some movies the villain never gives up to the end and dies or something horrible happens to him. But in this instance what I deemed to be the villain turned out to be a human being who just wanted to be loved as well. This shows that no matter where we're from, what our country or culture or traditions might be, no matter what our religions are, what we wear or eat...we are basic simply creatures who have the potential to be great through our humanity and the simple act of kindness. Bravo to the writer of this film and all it's actors :) WELL DONE :)
PS- Would've great to see them reunited with Ivan's Family :)

The injustice when you can't defend yourself from the system where power & the oligarchs are in control and yet there are good people behind the scenes who gives hope for the victims. Sasha's love, determination to succeed & to find her niche in life & be with her love ones is inspiring! Thank you for the happy ending!
Being a person from the same condition in 21st century I feel for the people back in my country eritrea. The government controls everything you can even go to prison for talking or having newsletters of activists
There were no oligarchs in the times of the USSR, you naive child. There were officials, but that was something else entirely. Look up the definition of "oligarch" in the dictionary.

The Russian business Oligarchs came after the dssolution of the USSR but the USSR in itself is similar to Oligarchy- Monopolization and lack of competition, the use of political party resource for promoting own interests, well paid leaders are just employees of the State or the party. So in my mind I referred to Oligarch, a member of an oligarchy, a power structure where control resides in a small number of people

I'm not exactly sure how or why this came up in my UA-cam feed but I am ever so grateful that it! Reacting blew me away! There was so many amazing aspects to this film The cinematography the staging everything I'm blown away that actress I'm going to look for where else she is because she was beautiful on the inside and on the outside and my intuition says the same way in real life.

True love comes with so many obstacles and betrayals, only those that are patient enough get the best of it. The one person she thought was her friend betrayed her. I'm also happy that her first husband finally found happiness.

What an amazing wonderful love story movie with happy ending! Worth watching!!!
Oh my what a story this is! It's kind along though but I do want to watch it again...This is epic! Not the usual goody romance but young innocent love challenged by politics, career, manipulative people, betrayal....and one too many sacrificial acts by a noble man for a woman who cannot love him back..the hero in the story is the military guy instrumental for Sasha to once again find happiness.

I almost had a panic attack when he said, “I've grown so fond of him Sash, and he likes me.” when she asked, “What about me?” then he said, “Come live with us at the guest house if you want, but I'm not giving the boy away.” I hate separation. It hurts to know that you will be separated from your loved ones for reasons that are beyond your control. No mother would stand that. I felt heartbroken for her sake and I'm glad this love story has a nice ending.

Such a beautiful movie. It kept me on my toes and captivated my attention. I wonder how it sounded with all the actor's real voices. Just hearing that girl sing in Russian was so different and amazingly better than all the English voice overs. Makes me appreciate English captioned movies much more than ever, because I usually avoid watching a captioned foreign movie...it's so tiring to read a whole movie. But I really missed hearing their true voices. ❤

As I am a lady of half Russian decent, this movie resonated with me. My mother, God rest her soul, would have loved this movie as much as I do. Please bring more Russian imports dubbed in English or even subtitled as my Dutch father refused the speaking of any other language than English in our home. Both he and my mother spoke, read and wrote 7 different languages but he did not understand Russian and it was my belief that he was afraid the my brother, sister and I would speak badly of him to my mother behind (or in front) of his back. Sadly they divorced anyway and they are both gone now. However we are sure we will be reunited with our mother in Heaven. Dad? We are not so sure of, but pray that we will once again ALL reunite in Heaven all speaking God's language of the heart. R.I.P. my mother Tatjana..your daughter, Alatchka. P.S. I should also mention that I was a model from a baby into my 50s.
When we go to heaven, we meet up with all God's people dear. But, we will not meet anyone that we could identify from Earth.
It's a fantasy theory religious people tell at funerals.
But, it's basically to make people think they can be nicer to them in heaven.
But Earth is the only place we have relatives, family, friends and associates etc.
We need to make the best or do the best we can for them, thus, we will have done our responsibilities God has given for us to do.
