I think one major advantage that doflamingo has over crocodile is that he had a fully fledged backstory. The inclusion of backstory made doflamingo a much more understood character
Yeah but Ivankov know something about Crocodiles past and we will get shown sooner or later. Maybe then we can comprehend to why he did that all and what his motivations are.
Doflamingo is not complex at all. He was the same all along the fucking arc. Crocodile is way better and he doesn't even need a backstory. People always forget that what makes a great villain is not just a great concept but its narrative and how he performs along the story. And man, even Arlong is a better villain than Doflamingo.
@@gerardox6662 think you misunderstood complexity in the op But you also seem to have a stick up your ass soooo chill Crocodile is my fave character so ill somewhat sympathize with you
@@gerardox6662 Arlong is pretty simple though whereas Dof did change over time in his life. His hate went from normal ppl to his parents then to the whole world including celestial dragon marine etc. He is way more wicked and twisted. He has a facade of being cool calm collected even tho he is mad all the time. His arrogance and how he abuses his status is also better. Arlong simply hates human
@@songuyen1726 you are analyzing his backstory and not his current character. In case you don't remember, in fisher tiger's flashback Arlong had to tell Jinbe to stop hurting humans because he was going to kill em. Arlong hasn't been evil always. And I can agree that Doffy's backstory was great, I enjoyed his appearense through the story including Punk Hazard. He just became extremely redundant and tiring at Dressrosa. He is one of the reasons I consider Dressrosa one of the worse One Piece arcs. I mean, I'm sure 99% of the people forgot what Doffy did at Dressrosa. He didn't do anything interesting at all, just smiling and being pure evil. And sorry if you didn't understand something, I'm not an english speaker so I'm sure I wrote something bad.
@@gerardox6662 lol look at this omega loser. dressrosa is one of the best arcs in one piece and doffy the best villain so far. he is extremely complex, terrific char dev and growth and characterization and had influence in the world
If I remembered it correctly, Mr Morj said something about Doflamingo calling himself as the "Heavenly Demon" so Luffy fought him from the sky and punched him back to where he belongs.
Crocodile was doing stuff completely underground with no one noticing so luffy punched him to the sky so everyone can see him while doflamingo thought he was above everyone so he was shot to the ground
Crocodile was doing stuff completely underground with no one noticing so luffy punched him to the sky so everyone can see him while doflamingo thought he was above everyone so he was shot to the ground
At this point fewer "antoginist's" in the series have actually helped Luffy than Crocodile has. By the time Doflamingo became the new big-bad of the series Crocodile had already partially redeemed himself by saving both Ace and Luffy. Now he didn't necessarily do this for both their sakes, but he'd be damned if the marines got another win. Hell he directly attacked freaking Sakazuki just to prevent Luffy's/Jinbe's deaths. Crocodile had to essentially redefine himself during, and after Marineford since his lifelong goal of killing Whitebeard was forever lost. Doffy's kinda just a dick for the sake of being a dick lmao. He's the ultimate button pusher, underground puppet master, and just overall a master and addict of underhanded tactics. Him and Crocodile both shared this trait in their respective arc's, but I always felt Crocodile was always unafraid of handling thing's personally. Hell he started a Civil War by relatively misleading the citizen's of Alabasta. All he needed was them to doubt/distrust eachother, and they just started murdering eachother as a result in an act of perceived rebellion while he stood on top as a hero. Honestly in both of their arc's they were both damn near unstoppable with Crocodile nearly permanently ending Luffy's adventure 2x.
@@smileyent.3055 At his core, he is bad for the sake of it. Even if his dad didn't let go of the celestial dragon status. He would have done shit as bad as he did in that timeline. And of course Doffy and Corazon aren't the same person. But they're brothers who shared the same trauma. So why didn't Corazon turn out the same way Doffy did? Tbf, his back story is complex, but he is just a mega jerk who then had more reason to watch the world burn.
I'll never forget the ridiculous beating he was taking from the surgery fruit attacks, and Gear 4, just getting yeeted a quarter way across the country in the blink of an eye, through buildings and such. I couldn't believe the damage he was taking when I first read that, and the anime had some cool moments in that fight too, but yeah Doflamingo is the real deal
When we'll discover Crocodile's backstory all of his previous actions will be recontextualized, like what happened with Sanji. Can't wait for that moment...
Sir Crocodile was an antagonist, while Doflamingo is a villain. The main difference is how Sir Crocodile smoothly shifted from villain to neutral caring character... And still getting the love. While Doffy is still menacing even while restrained. And his nature is of chaos that is unredeemable. Unless Oda tries to change his character and personality. But that won't be Doffy anymore. Sir Crocodile is Sir Crocodile. Be it at Alabasta as a dangerous foe, or as an unexpected ally at Marineford. Sir Crocodile is so similar to Doffy, yet so different at the same time. Both are my top most favorite villains or antagonists in One Piece manga.
@@attackhelicopter5154 u make a great point. I believe that at some point in time all warlords from the past (except Blackbeard) will serve at the very least some sort of supportive role in a way
Ohara: In fact, the list of similarities between the two warlords is so long, that I’ll move through it fairly quickly here not tome make this video unnecessarily long Fanbase: Please do make videos unnecessarily long.
I think the parallel you draw between Baroque Works and The Don Quixote Family is a false equivalence. You're correct in saying that Crocodile treats his subordinates like tools but your example of Bellamy as a parallel is misleading. Dolflamingo is shown in the story to care for his crew with genuine affection; at the end of Punk Hazard we see this through his conversations with Monet and Vergo, we see his concern for Baby 5 and Buffalo. In Dressrosa we see him save Giola at the expense of his plans; we see how he detests people laughing at Pica's voice and how overprotective he is for Baby 5 as people take advantage of her. They very much are the family he chose. He definitely sees himself above them and is willing to sacrifice them for his greater good but I think it would undersell the character to say he didn't love his crew.
Don't you think he would still sacrifice his crewmates if necessary? Not saying you're wrong, I also think he really cares about them (unlike crocodile) but I still could totally see him doing something like sacrificing one of them if it meant for example killing luffy or just saving his own life. Really curious about your thoughts on him theoretically having this kind of choice
@@marajoeo8618 he straightup pointed out exactly what your suggesting, yeah doflamingo will kill his beloved subordinates if necessary for his ambitions
@@LeloucheDGuitar sry I was scrolling through the comments before watching the whole video and I heard Ohara mention this before lol. Still my curiosity remains
Marajoeo Yeah for sure. In chapter 693 we get the conversation between Monet and Dolflamingo. He starts to tell her about the switch in the 3rd lab building but she cuts him off as she’s already there and is already planning to blow it all up. He asks her to “Die for Me” “...and take everything with you!!!” She replies “Understood young master” so there’s a resolute dedication from Monet, she is willing to be sacrificed and Dolflamingo while sad about it is also willing as this is the last resort (ruined by Law and Caesar). I think this interaction really goes to show that although he loves his crew, he is willing to sacrifice them if it means winning; but it also shows how his crew respect him as a captain and are willing to die for his dream. So it definitely be a twisted love. I think it also shows one of Oda’s biggest improvements in the post-time skip, that being the nuance in the enemy crews.
Moonman it’s actually an underrated arc I really enjoyed it but it gets a lot of hate it was a fun break from the usual one piece which I appreciated it wasn’t the best or anything I just enjoyed it
@@taylorthompson9447 I blame it on the anime. In the manga it's just short and funny. In the anime they added a second fight, so the arc just became too long and boring after a while.
Even if we knew, is still a surprising part that Oda used brilliantly to characterized the characters with animals, numbers, myths or any symbolism from our history.
So many OP character base on animal : Luffy: monkey Zoro: tiger Sanji: goat Nami: cat Robin: kestrel Franky: rhinos Ussop : salamander Chopper : raccon ( yep not reindeer) Brook: giraffe Garp: gorilla Akainu Kizaru Aokiji : red dog yellow monkey blue pheasant Whitebeard: polar bear Ace: panther Law: snow leopard Blackbeard: hippo Bellamy: hyena .... It's draw on some manga's cover if you notice
Doflamingo was a more important character than Crocodile, and better for the story; however, Crocodile's characterisation was superior and thus making him a better-written villain. Ra's al Ghul was more impactful to the plot of the Dark Knight Trilogy, but the Joker was a better character and his less screentime was in favour of him. Crocodile is Oda's best work of a show-don't-tell antagonist.
nah doffy still the best villain in one piece.i mean i love croc and cant wait to see his backstory or whats in store for him but doffy is so much deeper and fleshed out in character yet so hateable you cant help but hate him so much even though you partially understand where he is coming from. If crocodile gets his backstory and it recotntextualises his past actions to the point where he is as deep of a character as doffy then he would definitely be my fav bcs hes more badass than doffy but at this point doffy is the king
Agreed but only because Alabasta was the conclusion of an entire saga which was the first saga of the grandline (Whiskey peak, Little Garden, Drum Island, Alabasta). While Dressrosa is the second act in the Yonko Saga (Punk Hazard, Dressrosa, Whole Cake Island, Zou, Wano)
@@Aroselli1 Yonko saga is Zou - Wano. Gyoshin Island and Dressrosa had a Yonko interaction at the end, but Ace was at Alabasta too and Alabasta is not part of the Marineford saga. While Crocodile's and Dofy's storylines mirror each other, I think their actual characters are a completely different beings. I honestly think that Crocodile wasn't that narcisstic compared to other One Piece villains. I think he was someone who planned every detail, while Dofy didn't think he had to, because he felt himself to be over everyone not just Luffy. Yes Crocodile underestimated Luffy, but he had a solid reason to, he did defeat him two times, so why think a third would change things. And unless Dofy he couldn't know Luffy's future and past actions (because there weren't many). This doesn't make Dofy a bad character, his narcisissm is what makes him great, I just wanted to tell people how I think they are different.
I personally find it to be inconclusive considering Crocodile’s unknown backstory but unlike Doflamingo, Crocodile has slightly altruistic moments seen in Impel Down and Marineford that balance what he is as a character. Doflamingo has no such ambiguity making it clearer to us what exactly he is, but he also lacks the small moments that Crocodile has that sets them apart. They are/were both powerful Warlords with designs on illegitimate kingship in conflict with Luffy and are willing to be utterly ruthless so long as it fulfils their goals with a sadistic streak. Doflamingo is a bratty Ex-Celestial Dragon cunt and garners no sympathy. And his attitude indulges more of his sadistic tendencies than Crocodile does who veers closer toward playing dirty pool. The key difference is what they are in the scope of the setting. Doflamingo was a Celestial Dragon and still considers himself one, with all the selfish and sadistic traits it entails with the only difference being that he’s an actual threat. In the setting he is opposed to Luffy as a Celestial Dragon against someone with the Will of D but there’s little more to him than a spoiled rich bitch trying to make himself top dog again. Crocodile instead depicts what Luffy isnt 90% of the time as like a failed predecessor. Crocodile is subtle to Luffy‘s brashness, Crocodile is ruthless and pragmatic in combat compared to Luffy. Crocodile doesn’t really care about his underlings and sends them first to Luffy’s familial camaraderie and the first to fight habits. But come Marineford and we see a little of Crocodile that’s more like Luffy and what he might have been like prior to being crushed in the New World. The fact that he’d put his neck out in Marineford multiple times with no real benefit to himself, i.e putting him in the Navy’s sights by saving Ace and Luffy on the executioners block and from Akainu respectively, the latter of which considering that Luffy is someone he would by all rights hold a serious grudge against. And by challenging Mihawk, someone who can go toe to toe with one of the Yonkou to save his subordinate speaks of a hint of camaraderie. What I mean to say is that Crocodile is like an older and failed version of Luffy but still has parts of similarity that makes him more interesting. He’s a twisted reflection of what Luffy’s traits are hidden behind mystery compared to the relatively simplistic comparison of Doflamingo.
i think both are really really good but it depends on you you like a more chaotic villain or a more like a chill villain my favourite villain in one piece is croccodile but doflamingo is a really close 2nd . and i agree with your points i just like more croccodile with his like many people say bond villain type
I like Crocodile a lot better as well for different reasons plus again Crocodile story isn't complete there are still many questions and mysteries surrounding him unlike Doffy who already told his backstory
Sorry, but I'm not convinced. You've contrasted them on a thematic level, but nothing about that says one is better than another. My pick is Crocodile. This is because, when Crocodule faced a setback, he's revealed to have a backup. For Doflamingo, while he's able to out-think Law by pretending to abdicate from the Warlord system, once his plan is exposed he resorts to brute force. Crocodile's forethought and planning made it so the country would be destroyed even if he's taken down, & it took all the Straw Hats, Vivi, Pell, & the Marines on site to put a stop to it while Luffy dealt with Croc. But once Doflamingo activated Bird Cage, it became a matter of just taking him out. In this instance, Crocodile is the superior mastermind to the "string-puller." I also personally don't like how Doflamingo brute forces all his Devil Fruit powers. Swinging from clouds & repairing himself, sure, but strings of fire, string clones, & being able to manipulate people with only 1 string that isn't even attached to him just feels too easy a power. Yes, you could argue he has a more sympathetic backstory (which he does), but I'm in the minority as this made me dislike him as a character even more. He's just too selfish & oblivious to be a manipulator.
His selfishness and ruthlessness is why he is a manipulator. His methods just differ from crocodiles. Mingo is chaos while Croc is meticulous. Doffy thrives on bloodshed and carnage and making others suffer. Crocodile just wants the job done. Doffy never actually tries to be a manipulator in a tactical sense. He gets people young and grooms them into his ideology like he did with Law baby 5 and buffalo. While crocodile plays tactical chess strategy. The only thing similar about them is Croc took the blueprint for Doffy's dressrosa takeover and tried to use it in alabasta. Otherwise they are very different in every way.
Doflamingo is not a master manipulator, he only has raw power. Once his plan fell apart, he immediately resorted to brute-force. His rule over Dressrosa rose down in a single day, because he couldn’t think or come up with any back-up plans to stop Luffy and the rest of the team. Crocodile’s plan was actually thought-out and perfectly calculated, because even if he failed to get the location of Pluton, him becoming the king of Alabasta would’ve been absolute. The Marines, Strawhats and Vivi had to step in and stop him, and not even that was enough. Because after Crocodile’s defeat, the fight went on and it would’ve continued if it wasn’t for the rain that came abruptly. Hell, not even the country’s guardian deity was capable of stopping Crocodile and his plan to take over the nation. Crocodile’s grand scheme took divine intervention for it to be stopped. Doflamingo’s fell apart in a matter of hours. This is why Crocodile is better. He’s stronger and far more cunning than Doflamingo when you take the events of Alabasta and Dressrosa into careful consideration.
i completely agree the moment the strawhats actually started fighting back doffy was panicking the entire arc. nothing went his way and eventually had to resort to his nuke with the bird cage while crocodile was constantly one step ahead. when the strawhats tried to stop the war croc countered and made it even worse, when they tried to stop the bomb they find out croc had planned for that too leading pell to “sacrifice” himself. the only thing he didn’t plan for was robin betraying him.
@@yo-kaikid1925 I think the only thing Crocodile didn't prepare for was how resillient Luffy was. He fought our Rubber Boi in 3 fights: he impaled him, mummified him, poisoned him, and yet he still lost at the end. I'm flat convinced Luffy awakened Haki in that last fight, 'cause there's not enough blood in his 172cm body to lose with every punch. As for Robin's betrayal, he did have a backup plan: scour the country until he found Pluton. It wouldn't have worked, since he didn't know it wasn't there and certainly wasn't going to get it from where it actually is, but killing her was his backup.
Yeah? He did not seem concerned when he was planning to kill everyone with the birdcage. If he cared he would have true to warn his crew to get out or at least show remorse over the fact that his crew would have died along with everyone else
Didn't he basically manipulated all of them into doing what he wanted? Like his concept of "family" is basically making them sacrifice for his sake, he even told Law that he wanted to raise him so Law could give his life for Doffy. Doffy will love them if they do what he wants if not he will want to kill them like he did with his father and Corazon (and even wanted to do with Law). Also I don't think Crocodile sees Daz as dispensable since Impel down.
In regards to their treatment of their subordinates; Doffy seem to actually care about his subordinates, giving his sincere thanks to Virgo in his dying moments, showing genuine concern for Buffalo and Baby 5 when they were in trouble, an exhibiting anger whenever anything that happened to them. Bellamy was the exception because he was never a part of Doffy's crew. Crocodile on the other hand didn't give a damn about any of his subordinates, showing only the faintest hints of respect towards Mr. one, he also kept his own identity hidden from his subordinates for the longest time. My guess based on the subtle hints we've been shown; is that crocodile was once like Luffy, before being disillusioned after his defeat at the hands of whitebeard, and being either betrayed or abandoned by his crew.
Law & Robin also have a lot similarities; both deal with these two warlords from their past, both have their homeland destroyed, both survived because of a marine, both now kinda share similar goal learning about past, both have similar characteristics and both at first looked mystical
Love your analysis! Ive never noticed the parallels between the 2 n Dressrosa n Alabasta until this video..brings much more meaning to One Piece as a whole, and also to tt moment where Doffy keeps asking Crocodile to b allies
I really like Crocodile. I think he is a great villain but when I think about phenomenal villains in anime/manga, Doflamingo is the One Piece villain that comes to my mind immediately. Doflamingo is such an interesting and complex villain. He has a lot of different aspect that makes his character so much more compelling and interesting than Crocodile. His personality, his backstory, his relationships with his crew, his relationship with Law, his manipulation of the entire country of Dressrosa, his influence on the biggest powerhouses in the world (Yonkos and WG), and much more. Even after being defeated, Doffy shows how he was keeping all the major players in check and predicts everything that will happen next, even though he lost in the end he still gets the last laugh over the WG. Doflamingo is one of my all time favorite villains in any anime/manga.
I do agree that doffy is better because of the overall series development by the time we get to his saga. I personally like crocodile because he has just a bit more cojones then doffy. Doffy seemed terrified of Kaido whereas Crocodile openly exclaimed in front of WBs whole crew that he could take him out whenever he pleased. It would be interesting to see what happens with when they get reintroduced back into the story.
Crocodile: Dark power working from the shadows, trying to take over a country. KO'ed by punched into the light to get exposed. Doflamingo: Dark power who took over a country claiming to be above everyone else. KO'ed by punched back into the ground to humble him.
I want to address your points in order because I'm still not convinced Doffy is the better villain. 9:32 the overall flow of the story has nothing to do with who is the better villain. Almost all of the pre-time skip arcs are disconnected with some arcs being split in 2 (Jaya + Skypia and Water 7 + Enies Lobby). I dont think this should be a slight/advantage for either character because some people prefer the structure of pre-time skip to the current emperor saga. 10:04 The marine situation had much more impact in Dressrosa because its built on the events of Alabasta. We know how the marines want to cover up the events so seeing an admiral we like try to prevent what we already saw is awesome. That said I dont think the marine point is in favor of who is the better villain as neither villains have much control over how the marines react to their misconduct. 10:22 the thing is though, Doffy and Crocodile's plans are extremely different. Doffy needed to maintain power as Dressrosa was a constant source of income for him (both gaining money and the SMILES) whereas Crocodile only needed Alabasta for its poneglyph. I dont think its a slight against Crocodile that he only needed to be seen as a hero rather than a ruler as to get access to a one time resource rather than Doffy who needed to maintain power to maintain resources. 10:53 This part talks about Luffy's symbolism which has nothing to do about which villain is better. 13:07 You speak vaguely about how Doffy is better without giving any examples. You imply Doffy is a more complex character due to his backstory and although I agree it makes Doffy more complex it really only factors into his motivation, something I think both characters have plenty of. I can certainly concede that Doffy's motivation is stronger but thats not the only thing that should be considered when thinking about who's the stronger villain. The big problem I have with this video is that well over half of it is dedicated to NOT talking about who's better and even the section dedicated to talking about who's better you bring up irrelevant stuff like Luffy's symbolism and the marine's involvement. You don't even explain what being the better villain means or how to quantify it.
Well I totally agree with you that he didn't really express WHY Doflamingo is better he basically just showed his preference more or less. This video gave more reason of why dresrosa could potentially be better arc than albasta although even that wasn't the main focus of it. Btw the main reason I commented was due to the contrast of your user name and this long comment
@@Kislay11 yea I wish the title and video was more focused on contrasting the arcs rather than the villains. I usually leave long comments on things I'm passionate about so the name seemed fitting in an ironic way.
@@isaacjohnson8796 as I see it this was a direct response to a youtuber Totally Not Mark on his comment that he likes crocodile more than Doflamingo. Otherwise it would be unnecessary to make this video, atleast in my perspective. Btw, if you don't know TotallyNotMark is a youtuber who has started reading one piece a few months ago and does arc wise blind review ever week. I found his channel about a few days before he made first one piece video, and coincidentally I just caught up to manga just a few days before that, this is unnecessary information but I was amazed at the coincidence so just want to tell that Yup your name is very fitting
@@Kislay11 I saw that video too, although I think saying you "like something/someone more" doesn't equate to one being objectively better than something else.
I like Doffy a lot as well, but imo Croco is way cooler. He stood up to him, fearlessly, at marineford. I believe Doffy is stronger so not backing down from him was pretty badass!
Best Villains so far in my Opinion: 1. Doffy (just pure evil and well written) 2. Rob Lucci (Ultimate Justice no matter the cost) 3. Enel/Blackbeard (both great villains)
Totally different characters, Doflamingo was genuinely evil. Croco is way different and more complex, while Doflamingo's complexity relies on how straightforward his evilness is.
I love how both served as a huge milestone leap early on for Luffy and his crew. Crocodile being the 1st Shichibukai and a central to Alabasta conflict, the same with Doflamingo being the 1st actual threat after 2 years timeskip (at least compared to someone like Hody). Both defeats signify Luffy's position as a reckoning force, being the rookie that defeats Crocodile the Shichibukai, and Doflamingo, the Joker, the gigantic player in the underground pirate trading world. With Doflamingo defeats become a domino effect that leads to Wano arc Also, both beautiful human princess from both country later on were added into Luffy's harem basically
I also like the way that Oda make Crocodile and Doflamingo 2 villians with similar themes in the pre and post timeskip to mark the growth of luffy strength after 2 years. It's actually hard to write 2 similar yet unique and interesting villians
Personally, I think that Crocodile is the cooler villain. The Flair, the plan, the goals, for both similar but distinctly different still. Doflamingo just seemed to have had the more powerful and devoted back up, allowing him to be more successful overall. He was found and chosen by an already successful criminal group. Crocodile build everything he had (seemingly) with his own hands, altho we can't know that for sure. I do hope we get to see crocodile's back ground some day.
Hear me out: I agree with the points you presented but I also want to add, what makes Doffy more impactful as a character is, we get his backstory and know where his anger and violence coming from. In Crocodile's defense there is no backstory or where he comes from with such a villainous plan. But Oda, imo did this on purpose and later Crocodiles backstory is going to get revealed which would make his intentions even more clearer in Alabasta. His desire to acquire Alabasta roots from him wanting to become more powerful than the world government. So I assume world government might've wronged him in some ways. This might have some connection by what Ivankov knows about Wani which hinders him to act against Luffy in Impel down as well as Marineford. This might just be my theory but evidence states the opposite and Oda's foreshadowing is always one step ahead of the reader wherein we forget this ever happened until we're shown in the revelations, so this maybe the case. And by the end of the series Crocodile may surpass Doffy as a character and we might get more attached to.
Now, after seeing this, I realize that every arc on the grandline can basically break down into villians wanting power. Mostly there was no real backstory behind them all, just the want for power or the will to stay in power. But when the crew got to fishmen island, things began to change and Oda gives his villians better reasons to fight, then just the lust of power. This makes me so proud of him xD
@@adoniscreed4031 Fair enough, they are still villians and they tend to do that. But its also nice to get a bit more backstory in them, to at least explain why they are like that
Do Flamingo has a back story and that's the reason why he might have an edge over Crocodile as a character, but not knowing his past also makes Crocodile so intriguing. I personally preffer Crocodile, and one of the factors is their arc. I never truly cared about Dressruba, the Riku family or Rebecca, specially compared to Alabasta, Vivi and Kobra. And for that reason alone, when Luffy beat him up it was so satisfactory and relieving. With Doflamingo i just was glad it was over.
Personally, I believe Crocodile was the better villain, my point being that one, he had mysterious aspect to his plans, while Doflamingo just ran it like a mayor. No one knew it was Crocodile until the endgame, while almost all (those who could remember everything) knew it was Doflamingo's fault. Secondly, Crocodile had more impact than Doflamingo. Doflamingo is still hurting the story today, but Crocodile literally made the country fight itself. He had over half the country wanna kill the king, while Doflamingo had the entire country disgraced by their king. I can see the similarities many people mention, but the difference in personality, reason, and impact is so far different it takes the cake. Like, Doflamingo about to step and kill Law didn't feel the same as Crocodile dropping Vivi. Another thing is that Doflamingo fought and won almost all fights besides against main characters, while Crocodile didn't even bother to fight the ones that gave their lives solely to fight him, thats badass. Now I see many people say "Crocodile's redeemed now" He (tried to) save Ace because of the moment, not for redemption but because he hates the Government (even the former government and other government officials hate the government). But that's my opinion only, that and Doflamingo was a modern day drug dealer with power while Crocodile was an entire mob boss by corrupting both sides and hiding under his "beloved" title.
I think you forgot one important fact: Doflamingo has a backstory which we can relate to and explains a majority of his motives. We don't have that for Crocodile (yet). I'm sure Oda has more plans for Crocodile in the future, so both characters will end up on an equal level. I mean, through Crocodile we learned about the Ancient Weapons...
Literally just dawned on me the animal references for the shichibukai, big rip for both of us lol. Love the vid, I really dig this kind of videos where you compare stuff, I always thought I missed a lot knowing how Oda can be thoughtful of his past writings, as always you nailed it. Keep it up big boy!
I think this estimation(just talking about the videotitle) will be subject to change, because there is already a big question in the room for crocodile which surely will get a fullfilling payoff in the end, while i feel there is nothing really left for doffy except whats going to happen in the future with him
Love how you referenced mr morj. Two great op youtubers. Keep it up. I hope kaido will trump them both. Through being an extremely contradicting character
Really looking forward to Mark catching up to the latest so he can join the Wano Report without Ohara and Morj holding back from talking about spoilers. This discussion between Ohara and Mark oughtta be good
I cant wait till Crocoboy comes back in some form or fashion. It's almost a guarantee that he has a role to play right? Oda literally shows him in every one of the "around the world" type compilations when there's news lol
Great video, but equating the way Croc uses his subordinates to how Doffy does doesnt really work imo. Croc sees the members of baroque works as pawns to be used and disgarded, but Dofflamingo sees them as valuable pieces AND family, to be used but not to be thrown away.
The Thing i missed in dressrosa regarding alabasta are the Major Split fights all character got in Alabasta. Zoro vs mr1, sanji vs mr2 , nami vs miss doublefinger etc.
my problem with crocodile is that how quickly he went from untouchable to getting pummeled because of water I hope that the same doesn't happen to kaido where he is shown as an invincible monster than gets wrecked because of ryuo
kaido doesnt have untouchable quality, is about him being too strong and that he cant die. So its gonna be very different I get you point about ryuo but i think theres too low chances of luffy doing something serious at the beggining with that new technique
Well, why wouldn't crocodile be easier to attack with water? There is no indication that he is faster than Luffy. The problem that Luffy undergone against Crocodile on Round 1 was he can't hit him. At round 2, it was Crocodile keeping distance from Luffy while Luffy has predictable attacks since he needs to spit at him or coat his arms with water which makes his moves predictable. The final round was where the fight became geared more towards brawn. Crocodile is not on open ground and Luffy can easily punch him whenever he wants with his blood. I'd even say it was overlooked as decisive Luffy win since he only stole the victory when Crocodile thought he can no longer move and landed his final barrage of attacks after which he could no longer move. Also, people who rely on their devil fruit will always get in the downside when they face their weaknesses since they aren't used to it. Examples are Luffy vs Enel and Ace vs Blackbeard. Hope this explains for the crocodile part. As for Kaido, yeah I guess it is what it is. You only need advanced armament haki to injure/inflict a wound on him but that doesn't mean he'll go down instantly. It's just like Luffy won't ever win in a straight up against Katakuri without unlocking future sight to match him. The real battle begins afterwards. Actually, this is like every villain in One Piece that Luffy faced where Luffy or the opponent has quality that puts Luffy in a disadvantage.
It wasn't because of water tho if it was because of water he would have lost in the second fight but he still could defeat Luffy again even if he was using water. The thing that happened was that he stopped using his powers in the third fight and tried to fight Luffy with just pure brute strength and well I guess it was because of the desperation and anger since his plan was ruined
I loved your breakdown of the respective fights, particularly who used multiple attacks versus who used one and Luffy's position relative to the villain.
Partial disagreement. While Don Flamingo is a great villain I feel as though Crocodile is simply not yet finished. He is one of the few villains defeated we don't have a backstory for, he has been revealed at marineford to have more depth than previously known, and he was deliberately reintroduced back into the the story. Currently Dofy is more developed but he is finished. Crocodile has the possibility of returning. Thus Dofy is CURRENTLY the better villain.

It’s not fair for my boy croc, oda was still (relatively speaking) new to writing one piece. Doffy got a more seasonal experience beast of a man oda by the time his arc came:’(
I personally agree to disagree. I still prefer Crocodile, although I loved Doffy in his arc. But that is okay, different opinions are allowed and even desired. Love your videos!
Alabasta is probably my third favorite completed arc if it wasn't for enies lobby and marineford it'd be the best imo ( so far not including wano ). Dressrosa was long for no reason and felt like a rewind of Alabasta but at the same time brought new stuff like information on the underworld and the how the alliances and world government work
Crocodile is better. A lot of doffys backstory is basic edgy shit. "I killed my brother and father fufufufu" .Cool Crocodile didnt even need an edgy backstory to establish himself...and when his real backstory appears in the main storyline it will be better than this.
Doffy didn’t NEED one either…it’s not like the dude popped up for the first time ever in the post timeskip era…this is a dude we’ve known next to nothing about, who always carried this eerie feeling around him whenever he was on screen….why was this dude making random marines strangle each other?? We didn’t know. Why was this dude making two guys kill each other in the street, only to wrap it up with some random and excited rant about how the pirate world was about to shift??? We didn’t know. Yet and still we knew this guy had the potential to be pretty interesting if he had gotten the same amount of screen time as crocodile. I’ll never get the hype about crocodile anyways..like he’s cool, but for me he’s your standard run of the mill chill anime bad guy who’s “cool because he doesn’t gaf”. I prefer villains like Madara Uchiha from Naruto who can turn off the chill every once in a while and go batshit crazy, just like Doffy can. But nah, crocodile needs a seriously good backstory to compete with doffy…
The whole video is just about why dressrosa is better than alabasta. Not a single point ass to why Dofflamingo as a character is better (he is not in fact) than Crocodile
i think overall, when all is said and done, execution included, croc takes the cake, but doffy had more potential, had he been on a slightly less ambitious and grandiose arc, hed take this. just too much theme and character wise that couldve been explored in a deeper way.
I think one major advantage that doflamingo has over crocodile is that he had a fully fledged backstory. The inclusion of backstory made doflamingo a much more understood character
Yeah but Ivankov know something about Crocodiles past and we will get shown sooner or later.

Exactly he is one of the most mysterious characters along with Kuma/ Dragon/Imu and Vegapunk
@@lynnraven6101 I think we do. We probably will see more of him in the future but there arent any questions left about him like there is with Croco.
In this instance, Crocodile is the superior mastermind to the "string-puller."
I also personally don't like how Doflamingo brute forces all his Devil Fruit powers.
@@IamMeHere2See i mean 2 of the 3 fights luffy only survived because of robin so i think in alabasta it was mainly robin and not luffy’s resilience
Doflamingo doesn't see his subordinates as dispensable. He considers his original crew his actual family and cares for them deeply.
He won't put his life on the line for them though.
@@zemox2534 And at the same time killed people for so much as laughing at Pica
@@jcblazer0470 It was the equivalent of laughing at him. You laugh at Pica, you laugh at Doflamingo.
Oh so Law was the princess of the Dressroba arc that makes it alot better

Pell never should have survived that.

I found his channel about a few days before he made first one piece video, and coincidentally I just caught up to manga just a few days before that, this is unnecessary information but I was amazed at the coincidence so just want to tell that
Yup your name is very fitting
@@Kislay11 I saw that video too, although I think saying you "like something/someone more" doesn't equate to one being objectively better than something else.
@@isaacjohnson8796 true
I like Doffy a lot as well, but imo Croco is way cooler. He stood up to him, fearlessly, at marineford. I believe Doffy is stronger so not backing down from him was pretty badass!
Best Villains so far in my Opinion:
1. Doffy (just pure evil and well written)
2. Rob Lucci (Ultimate Justice no matter the cost)
3. Enel/Blackbeard (both great villains)
Akainu is the ultimate justice. Lucci is just sadistic and has that inner bloodlust
Totally different characters, Doflamingo was genuinely evil. Croco is way different and more complex, while Doflamingo's complexity relies on how straightforward his evilness is.
These videos are great, man. That decapitation parallel was clutch.
With Doflamingo defeats become a domino effect that leads to Wano arc
Also, both beautiful human princess from both country later on were added into Luffy's harem basically
Hear me out:
I agree with the points you presented but I also want to add, what makes Doffy more impactful as a character is, we get his backstory and know where his anger and violence coming from.
This makes me so proud of him xD
but to be fair... most vilains in one piece just wanna make their way up the totem pole amongst the world powers...
@@adoniscreed4031 Fair enough, they are still villians and they tend to do that. But its also nice to get a bit more backstory in them, to at least explain why they are like that
Yeah but tbh we still need to know Crocodile backstory and his secret with Invakov.
@@veruskatorres9276 Calling it now: Crocodile is Luffy's mother.
whats wrong with lust for power. that is really good too. in one piece world everyone is trying to climb this ladder and be at the top
Thank god for videos like this! The series is ridiculously long! Dresrosa is where I left off so many years ago.
Doflamingo was an emporer's bitch. Crocodile beefed with GOAT Beard and would never bend the knee.
*Mr Crocodile
I LOVE the anticipation in the title, no click bait either!
My 2 favorite villains so far
I had no idea about the animal theme. Thanks for pointing it out. Its facinating.
Keep it up big boy!
also one similarity between the two sagas share is the appearance of luffy's brother:
Ace in Alabasta
Sabo in Dressrosa
I”be been waiting for this comparison video since Marineford. Thank you O’Hara!!!!
After all this years, Crocodile is still my favorite antagonist.
Same! Sables forever..
Thank you so much for all videos you made. You are one of my absolutely best youtubers ever. :)
Jsi borec. Mám moc rád tvoji tvorbu.
Totally not mark disapproves
Really looking forward to Mark catching up to the latest so he can join the Wano Report without Ohara and Morj holding back from talking about spoilers. This discussion between Ohara and Mark oughtta be good
So Much Thanks Ohara. I don't know when but i requested Villian Charaters depth video. Really enjoyed This Video.
unpopular opinion
i actually like Sir Crocodile more
I cant wait till Crocoboy comes back in some form or fashion. It's almost a guarantee that he has a role to play right? Oda literally shows him in every one of the "around the world" type compilations when there's news lol
Doflamingo is a better antagonist in their own arc, but I would rate Crocodile as an overall better character due to his presence in Marineford.
nah doffy is the better char. doffy was also better than crocodile at marineford lol
Your analysis is amazing bro. Keep going at it
Great video, but equating the way Croc uses his subordinates to how Doffy does doesnt really work imo. Croc sees the members of baroque works as pawns to be used and disgarded, but Dofflamingo sees them as valuable pieces AND family, to be used but not to be thrown away.
1:07 Doffy said: My niggah
The Thing i missed in dressrosa regarding alabasta are the Major Split fights all character got in Alabasta. Zoro vs mr1, sanji vs mr2 , nami vs miss doublefinger etc.
Gecko moria being a bat makes ALOT more sense to me now. Thx for that
my problem with crocodile is that how quickly he went from untouchable to getting pummeled because of water
I hope that the same doesn't happen to kaido where he is shown as an invincible monster than gets wrecked because of ryuo
kaido doesnt have untouchable quality, is about him being too strong and that he cant die. So its gonna be very different
I get you point about ryuo but i think theres too low chances of luffy doing something serious at the beggining with that new technique
If ryuo was all it took, the people of wano would have been able to stop kaido
@@jg5745 where you the guy that wrote the bible in one sitting?
It wasn't because of water tho if it was because of water he would have lost in the second fight but he still could defeat Luffy again even if he was using water. The thing that happened was that he stopped using his powers in the third fight and tried to fight Luffy with just pure brute strength and well I guess it was because of the desperation and anger since his plan was ruined
I loved your breakdown of the respective fights, particularly who used multiple attacks versus who used one and Luffy's position relative to the villain.
Sir crocodile is more interesting because i know he will play a role again. And hes way more badass then doofi
They tick different boxes. Croc is a bod villain. Dom, is a mafia boss.
I don’t see one being the top … they are different
Fr they arent even the same in nothing, they are mostly polar opposites in all things
Thus Dofy is CURRENTLY the better villain.
i love your analysis ohara, thank u
Oda watching this: did i really mean all of this while drawing breaking ground??
I didn't realize the alabasta and dressrosa arcs had this much similarities
Crocoboy is just fucking cool.
Respect O’Hara how fast you grew I like your content because you put really deep thought before putting something out on UA-cam it’s really special ps: wano report in wano
It’s not fair for my boy croc, oda was still (relatively speaking) new to writing one piece. Doffy got a more seasonal experience beast of a man oda by the time his arc came:’(
I'm waiting for oda to say "I just thought it be epic to punch him from the sky", amazing video. Keep up the amazing work 👏!!!
I personally agree to disagree. I still prefer Crocodile, although I loved Doffy in his arc. But that is okay, different opinions are allowed and even desired. Love your videos!
Amazing analysis! Especially in regards of the final fight scene
Bruh Alabasta > Dressrosa
Crocodile BDE >>>> Doflamingo BDE
@linlinö önilnil nah Alabasta is better but I like Doffy slightly more.
Alabasta is probably my third favorite completed arc if it wasn't for enies lobby and marineford it'd be the best imo ( so far not including wano ). Dressrosa was long for no reason and felt like a rewind of Alabasta but at the same time brought new stuff like information on the underworld and the how the alliances and world government work
Really well written and presented. Thank you for your efforts.
Had no clue about the warlord themes
Here take my like
Just a quick note here, the mirror character to Vivi is actually Rebecca not Violet.
Alabasta 30 Chapters
Dressrosa 102 Chapters
More Chapters = More Characters, Fights, Flashbacks, Gag Moments and Detail in general.
Crocodiles way better The fact that he didn’t even get his backstory yet says it all
Huge work I love you man!!!!
Crocodile is better. A lot of doffys backstory is basic edgy shit. "I killed my brother and father fufufufu" .Cool
Crocodile didnt even need an edgy backstory to establish himself...and when his real backstory appears in the main storyline it will be better than this.
I cant wait to know about his backstory and secret
But nah, crocodile needs a seriously good backstory to compete with doffy…
the moment cross guild gets some spotlight this gonna change and croc will be way better
When crocodile show up again he’s gonna prove that he is better than doffy 🤣
OG crocodile the baddest mob boss
Yet the worst mother
Dude i been binge watching all your one piece video keep it up
Ceocodile is one of my fave char in onepice, want him to appear in wano and helps strawhat
thanks man! Your videos make me vibrate, bless you master otaku
And here I was wondering why I was awake. This. This is why😂
Here I thought one piece writing couldn't get any better the warlord animal theme is dope thanx for sharing that
The whole video is just about why dressrosa is better than alabasta. Not a single point ass to why Dofflamingo as a character is better (he is not in fact) than Crocodile
This was eye opening.
i think overall, when all is said and done, execution included, croc takes the cake, but doffy had more potential, had he been on a slightly less ambitious and grandiose arc, hed take this. just too much theme and character wise that couldve been explored in a deeper way.
