That time the population of Pitcairn Island was almost 200 people, now only left 50 people to struggle to survive and maintain alife their culture. Thanks for sharing this old documentary. !!⏳🎥📽
This is about what is was like back in 1964. I' still got a hand carved wood flyfish that I' traded for a pack of Philip Morris Cig's. But this is How I' remember Pitcairn Island. It is only that tiny spot where you can land on the Island, and only the Islanders know how to navigate those waters.
My last contact with Pictcairns was in the fiftys! Early on they where all Àdventists! THEY DON'T SMOKE! They seem to have lost their beliefs starting in the 60s! Their main income was from carved wood objects to STAMPS!😊
What I've been wondering, for many years, was there ever a " Fletcher Christian Jr." When I was living with my grandmother, who was a penpal of him, many things and letter's were signed by him!!?? I always wondered if there was such a person,!!?? Can you help?
I sailed by the island in 1997, but the sea was rough to land. There was no reason to anyway. The fishing was great, lots of Yellow fin Tuna, and Ono (Wahoo).

I'm a Polynesian deacendant and my grandfather told me of a ancient story of Pitcairn island . The story begins with a group of Polynesian sailing in search of new land towards Tahiti from the Samoan and Tongan islands . They settled in the main island of Tahiti and some continued to what is now Pitcairn island but they didn't like the island because of fear of superstitious angry pagan gods that inhabit the island. They believed that the gods lived on the top of the island so they only used Pitcairn island as a ceremonial island or whatever weird shit they did there never to inhabit the higher areas of the island they only stayed on the island for Short periods before moving on . O and the painting on the walls on the beach those are warning signs for others to stay off the island because it belongs to a god that lives on the very top . To be honest this is one stupid and silly fairytale the truth to this is that the ancient Polynesian people found the island to be difficult to access and it had no water supply so they used it as a stop and grab supplies island before moving on towards New Zealand and possibly South America.
Thank you for sharing your story about a story! It explains the petroglyphs they left behind. I wonder if any other Polynesians recognise any of the signs and markings or know what they mean?
@@elizabethwhiteoak5291 yeah like I said it's been passed down from generations in my family remember it could be a warning sign to others to keep away because leprosy was common in the south Pacific in every island also there have been human skeleton remains found in cave's on the island it could be the remains of a certain royal family that was cast out of the volcanic island of Tofua where the story goes that a ancient king kicked out his brother and his family because of fear of a overthrow but it turned out that the King was a wicked ruler and jealous of his brother it's a sad story and there's a old song to it in Tofua.
@@leadersuccess3761 Haha Great response sir. Thank you for the passing on of a very interesting piece of verbal history. I thought Pitcairn did have a fresh water supply. Perhaps there was a drought when the ancient Polynesians saw it .
8:24 Based on the assumption it is a star/navigation map, I assumed that those crosses are stars. So on the right it might be Achernar, whose light intensity would be good enough to navigate to a specific Island since on the left it looks like a drawing of Pitcairn as Island. Then I checked for the southern cross and yeah, it is nearby. It fits the drawing (Achernar is slightly higher on the firmament than the southern cross). And well, it pointed to the Island Ducie. That beeing said, it could be all coincidence.
John Adams being the only original Bounty sailor left alive after 20yrs (the rest killed by Hawaiian men) plus the limited number of women brought by the Bounty to the island by Fletcher Christian pretty much pre-ordained there would be an incredible degree of inbreeding among this isolated population. Too few women for too many men, the Hawaiians being treated as lesser beings by the British mutineers all contributed to future unrest.
The group consisted of 9 mutineers and 20 Tahitians, 14 females, 6 males. So there were 15 males and 14 females, the balance was pretty close. Five of the mutineers were killed by the Tahitian men, followed by the mutineers killing seven men. There were no Hawaiians as it's 4000 km to the north.
So I should have said the more specific term "Tahitian" as opposed to the more general "Hawaiian," which would include the Hawaiian island chain in any case. A study will show that at a point before the uprising, the native men were reduced to 2-3 natives "sharing" a "wife", while the Englishmen had one wife to themselves,& freely commandeered the use of the native's wives at will. THIS, and the inequity of status between natives & mutineers precipitated future problems.
S Camp yea don't blame them being bugged by old men cousins relatives etc is a bad environment it's beautiful but backwards they are all inbreed and think pedophilia is ok .

It would appear the mutineers were the bad guys.. History isn't always right so better to look forward.
@LUIS VELEZ Who hated him? Do you mean the criminals? How does that make him a monster?

named after a young kid who spotted the island in like 16th-17th century, its his last name
yup. you win.

sweet red lies.
What a patronizing attitude. The island does seem a world apart.
