@Annie O And you really must be Satan if you think that. It all depends on how the dog is raised. Dogs personalities aren't made when they're born. They're made with their owner/lack of one.
Laurrie was my seeing eye dog golden retriever. She was a beautiful soul & is sorely missed. She gave me her best and kept me safe while crossing the busy streets of Philadelphia. Thank you Missy Pooh or Mi Mamacita for a wonderful 16 years.
People who spend hours and hours training and socializing dogs to become guide dogs, support dogs etc. Are unsung heroes for sure. They bond with these dogs and then have to give them to those they trained them to be with. That is Unselfish Grace personified!🐶🐕😍
Nice to hear about the good service dog foundations that do health testing, as they should, before placing them as service dogs! And when they found out she had an issue she was placed into a trustworthy and loving home. Good example of what should be done 100% of the time!
Still, is heartbreaking. I wonder if they fill a sense of loss after having been trained to a “job”. But, maybe the helping to raise future guide dogs will be what she needs! ❤
I'm truly happy for Smudge. Service dogs are essential for humans in need, but my heart aches whenever I think about dogs in service since they can't enjoy life as a dog. Enjoy your life with your loving family. Life is so short for dogs. Every moment counts. 💜
Beautiful! My dog was graded out of assistance dog training due to being too timid, but in my mind, she is still an assistance dog because she helps me so much, and I just adore her. We saved each other. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Tears in my eyes, dogs can be so amazing and loving. I love that she has such an amazing home with you. There's nothing better than seeing a happy dog and a happy family. All the best to your beautiful family. x
Some dogs who start the guide dog training cannot finish for one reason or another. I met one such dog, who the program trainers found had WAAY too much energy to be a guide dog. She was then adopted to a loving family.
To add to Katheryne, dogs that DO become services dogs, when they are done working (old age, illness, whatever) they become pets too. I think they usually stay with their previous family. I know I'd keep them as a pet, you learn to love them as a family member as any plain family pet, you know?
You can put your name down at training schools to apply for a dog that failed as a guild dog, they still trained well just not approved enough to be a service dog, I knew of someone who put there name Down and got a one Yr old labrador 6months later, now that dog can walk on the path to heel with no Leash, don't advice that, but that's how well trained he is.
When a guide dogs retires, the blind owner may not be able to take care of two dogs and the retired dog is given for adoption to either their close family or volunteers from the guide dog community who may have even raised the same puppy before guide dog training. Situations and people are different. Training of guide dogs differs from country to country, here they are born in a guide dog school, raised in a volunteer family for 1 year while going under basic training. Guide dog school then tests them and if they are selected they return to the guide dog school. Professional guide dog trainers train them 1 year before they start working as guide dogs as 2 year olds. When they retire after their service career, they will return to the same family that raised them to 1 year old. And if they wash out in any part of the training they are returned to the volunteer family. I know many retired guide dogs returned to their original puppytime family after a decade of service and there is a lab which didn't get selected as a guide dog sleeping right here.
What a heart warming story! I stop and watch these videos when the world is getting TOO MUCH to handle! Brings a reminder there are good, decent things happening in this world. God bless you all!
I had two labs, a yellow and black, that were brothers from the same litter. Jake and Elwood. They to were like peas in a pod. They would play tug of war and the winner would do a victory lap around the looser, then give the other end back to have another match. I miss them every day.
So. Glad you got Smudge back. I know she would have made the best guide dog, but I think no one could have given her a better home than you & your family. 🐾🐾🐾🐾😃🐕🧸♥️🏝⛳👍🐾🐾🐾🐾😃❤
We raised seeing eye dogs for four years. Loved the service and seeing dogs graduate. One of our dogs came back to us at eight at retirement but went to a new home to continue working. Retired\career change dogs are pretty special.
There’s something extra special about this. The amazing people who train guide dogs have to find it bitter sweet when they go to the person who needs them so to see one reunited for life , there’s something lovely about it.
My sister fostered a guide dog (Pippin) as a pup at her home in the Adirondack Mountains of New York until he went off to Guide dog training. After trained Pippin was matched to an older blind man in New York City, we went to his graduation from guide dog school and met Pippins new owner. Pippin served her owner for ten years getting him safely around NYC, he rode busses and the subway, amazing! When Pippin could no longer serve due to old age, his owner could not keep him as he received a new dog and only had the ability to care for one dog in his small NYC apartment. The Guide Dog people offered Pippin back to my sister in retirement, and he moved back to the Adirondacks and lived out his remaining years being spoiled and loved. Today he rests in my sisters back yard along side several other family pets and a beautiful view of the mountains! What a noble life service animals live!

Loved watching this video... especially seeing Smudge’s birthmark, what a special dog! My little dog (a Yorkie Bichon named Isabella) woke me up around 4am the last few mornings gently pawing at my arm... because she wants me to roll over on my side and snuggle with her - which of course I was happy to do. Nothing like having a dog... the love you get back from them is absolutely amazing!
We had a guide dog in training for 16 months. He was such a good boy, it was absolutely crushing when he left bet we know he is making a difference every day. Remember the puppy raisers.
You seem like a depressed, socially-handicapped and generally a bitter person overall. Dogs are a great deal more loyal and affectionate than humans can ever pretend to be. I m not even a dog lover but I know what amazing creatures they are. And You sir are definitely a mad person and your profile pic just helps to reinforce my point.
Humans develop negative mentalities usually in response to too much stress. Most animals, which are happy by nature, help to relieve this. Certain positive and negative emotions are infectious between human and human or between animal and human.
To be fair, most humans have to work long hours at terrible jobs for shitty pay just to have a roof over their head and eat food!! It's a crappy existence that should be changed. It makes no sense to me that some live so luxuriously and ignore those living in poverty. I wish privilege were only bestowed upon those responsible angels that shared with others and had kind caring hearts.
I love the idea of a birthmark. She is such a beautiful dog and you can see how capable she is. I can imagine the proud bearing she had in her Service Dog uniform!
I don't know how many times I've watched this Happy Full Circle story of SMUDGE, CAMDEN & SMUDGE's Return Homecoming to her Original Mama Heart and Home. : )

Made me cry!!! love them., just lost mine after 17 years ... so this is a joy to my heart...
So sweet!
Years ago I toured Guide Dogs for the Blind just north of San Francisco. Fascinating.
This must be the hardest job to train these Dogs and then let them go 😭
Agreed! I don't think I could do it. But I was happy to see the family get Smudge back!!
I have raised a few of these puppies. It is really hard to take them back, but so rewarding to see how they change their partner's life.
I raised a few. It’s hard but rewarding.
We had a guide dog in training for 16 months. He was such a good boy, it was absolutely crushing when he left bet we know he is making a difference every day. Remember the puppy raisers.
Those who disliked this, you will never have another happy moment for the rest of your lives......................
America’s VetDogs is one of the organizations I donate to. Such a great organization🐶❤️
I'm so happy that she went home instead 😂❤️
Thank you so much for adopting Smudge 💛💛 and taking time with all these dogs. Beautiful, happy dog 💛 She knows she's home! 🏡 💛💐💖
Sometimes I wonder how animals make us human again, while some humans make us bitter.
Thats true , my gsd makes me realize that i can be a better person when some person and circumstances upset me.
Humans are over-rated.
Humans develop negative mentalities usually in response to too much stress. Most animals, which are happy by nature, help to relieve this. Certain positive and negative emotions are infectious between human and human or between animal and human.
Nothing "makes us human". We ARE human. That includes all the bullshit, too.
I can imagine the proud bearing she had in her Service Dog uniform!
the dodo just always makes me happy!
Smudge reminds us every day to LOVE, just by looking at her face. We are less likely to HATE upon gazing on her face.
That would be tragic for Smudge if Camden is sent away to be someone else's dog. She is so bonded to her.
EXTREMELY
Smudge's Destiny wasn't to be a guide dog. It was to help train future guide dogs. Sooo sweet!
Smudge: “please tell me I’m staying forever this time momma?” 🥺
Deana: “yes Smudge. You’re never going anywhere ever again!” 🤗🤗🤗
Smudge: ☺️🥰
Sad that anyone would dislike this gorgeous doggy. They must be miserable.
"Everything's so much smaller than I remember it...!"
I don't know how many times I've watched this Happy Full Circle story of SMUDGE, CAMDEN & SMUDGE's Return Homecoming to her Original Mama Heart and Home. : )
