Madonna actually released 6 music videos from her Erotica album - “Erotica”, “Rain”, “Bad Girl”, “Bye Bye Baby”, “Fever” and “Deeper And Deeper”. I understand how Erotica, her sex book and Body Of Evidence film can be seen as controversial back in 1992 but looking back now it was all pretty tame. She could’ve gone even farther sexually and explicitly than she did. Anyway I loves me some Madonna. She’s my favorite female music artist. @@theKarstenR there is a live video for “Bye Bye Baby” from her Girlie Show Tour. It may have only been released in certain countries but it counts as a video and single.👍🏾😅
I like the LO-Fi sound of the entire album which was a deliberate choice to add to that very warm, club style atmosphere of the record. This album is one the Madonna's greatest. When they were recording they kept it as simple as possible with minimal number of tracks so the songs would sound a bit raw, and not overly-smooth or overproduced. The same approach was made for the "Erotica" video, with that grainy film and overall vintage vibe. It doesn't look pornographic. it looks artistic.
I’m so glad that this song is getting some love from you ! It’s such a great song. The groove is sick, the drums and percussions, the construction of the song... can’t get tired of her Erotica album anyway. It’s witty and clever too. Lyrics are great. Madonna’s been doing it like no other. Let’s refer to her as the pure pop genius that she is.
I have to admit I was shocked with the direction her music took starting in 1990 with justify my love (the video was banned by MTV) to her Erotica album. No commercially successful artist (especially a woman) at that time would dare sing about sexual fantasies so openly and blatantly as Madonna did. She had the guts to do it unapologetically. In 1995 she came out with the song Human Nature where Madonna fires back at all the people criticizing her…”you punish me for telling you my fantasies breaking all the rules I did not make.” Great video.
Erotica contains a sample of Fayrouz called "El Yom", a Lebanese singer. From Wikipedia: In 1992, Madonna used some parts of Fairuz's songs in her album without permission; the singers settled the matter outside of court, but Madonna's album and single were prohibited in Lebanon.
yep a woman and that she did it "on her own" and was not just asked by Playboy or something and then state: oh just tasteful pictures i can show my grandchildren.... She was the boss, she decided, and that a woman dares to choose to present herself in such a sexual way was a big part of it.
@Marvin Morawski Went too far according to what standards? That’s so hypocritical. If David Bowie or Prince had done the same at the time they would have been Womanizers and acclaimed. Madonna was judged because she was a woman and she was clearly expressing her sexuality without filters.
This is a highly underrated album, the start of a period of critically acclaimed albums leading to Bedtime Stories, Ray of Light and Music, a change of direction for her and her most creative period . Well this was the thing that made me fall in love with her completely back then. That concept of Erotica the album and Sex the book, both part of a same work, it was brilliant. And the photography of the book was amazing, of course with the help of her eternal partner Steven Meisel. That era was just absolute genius from every angle. There were references of the 30s in a lot of her photoshoots in that period, Dita Parlo and Marlene Dietrich were big inspiration, in those days she also made an editorial with Steven called "Flesh and Fantasy" for Rolling Stone, it was amazing. And that "Hot Madonna" cover for Vanity Fair again with Steven Meisel, but with a 60s look aproach, and again, an amazing set of pictures. My favourite time for her … the tour before this Blond Ambition and then this one on the Erotica tour were stunning !! Amazing songs for sure !!! Wow !!!
ICONIC!!!! The vinyl sound is on propuse, I had the CD and it had it. At that time I was confused, it was one of my first CDs... I though CD sounded like vinyls!!
I do have the album on Vinyl, as well as the single! I do love listening to it better than streaming or CD... It is the experience! Only the one that hurts you, can make you feel better...
Erotica is recognized by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as one of the most revolutionary albums of "ALL TIME"!! Who the fuck else could pull that off but Madonna!!! All female artist should bow to her, she continues to break ground!!
hi this was madonna's first album to be released on cd support. she madonna loved vinyl and decided to incorporate it into the song plus she bought the cheapest microphones on the market to get a dirtier sound on her voice. in that same period the sex book was also released from which the music video was taken on the various photo sets, in addition with the book there was a cd with a version of erotica with different text.
What you described as the sound being bad quality was actually intentional. She wanted it to sound raw. other's have reacted to the video as 'poor quality' but again, that was intentional and matches the style of the song.
So glad you're back to reacting to Madonna's videos. Don't get me wrong I enjoy your album journey a lot but I missed this. Please do "Justify My Love" next (to stay on the topic of classy sex ;) ).
The Erotica was awesome, liberating album. It came it out the same time as her photograph book on "Sex". The U.S. press trashed her nonstop. You should check out her song "Where life begins" and "Fever" Madonna has balls!
It's funny to watch this video and think back when it was released. Here in Brazil, no surprise, the ''Erotica'' video was shown on TV at any time. I remember watching it in the middle of the afternoon while having a snack. I was 14 years old then. My dad was not very fond of the idea of me enjoying Madonna's music, but, well, whatever.
Erotic.... “My name is Dita I'll be your mistress tonight I'll be your loved one darling Turn off the light I'll be your sorceress, your heart's magician I'm not a witch, I'm a love technician I'll be a guiding light in your darkest hour I'm going to change your life, I'm like a poison flower”....
We say a lot has changed since this was released but she’s the reason why that change has happened. This song went along way to changing a lot despite the backlash at the time.
There was an hour special with Robin Leach , talking to her friends and fans when the sex book was released. It was great. They did a voting poll to see if Madonna went to far. 75% said no , she didn’t.
Erotica is the first album by Madonna that I bought... back in 1992. And after all these years, it remains my favorite by hers! The song is brilliant, everything about it, as is the album! .... I HAVE this on Vinyl, it's a double... made in Germany ;) I won't sell it!
Fun to watch a whole new generation discovering Madonna. At the time, radio stations didn't know what to do with this song. Now, it could be contemporary to what is being produced. I could hear beats like this on a chill lounge station I listen to. Very ahead of its time. You are, of course, watching the uncensored version which MTV and other video channels at the time couldn't show in the kind of heavy rotation a mega star like Madonna was used to, apart from selected timeslots in very late-night prime-time. The only way to watch this video was to buy it. The video is a marketing extension of the double whammy promotion of the album "Erotica" (its titular song the first single) and the coffee table book "Sex", authored by Madonna, which was a collection of photographs taken by Steven Miesel showcasing Madonna (and some fellow celebrity friends like actress Isabella Rossallini, supermodel Naomi Campbell, and rappers Big Daddy Kane and Vanilla Ice, her boyfriend at the time) in various sexual situations, accompanied by texts written by Madonna in the guise of the dominatrix Dita detailing her myriad sexual fantasies. The video itself has a meta-element in that it has no real storyline other than showing us clips of the photo shoots for the "Sex" book, held together by Madonna's clever performance as Dita in a 60's-like underground peep show. Watching the video out of context with the book, one can imagine the video is a sensational collection of interplaying sexual fantasies and scenarios. Stylistically, it is one of her most brilliant videos - like the song, gritty yet elegant, simple yet smart, sinister yet liberating ... along the lines of what you said, she knew how to make the complex look deceptively simple, the mark of a true artist.
Great reaction Dereck:) an iconic era in pop music... what Madonna did here is so brave and unique. True today sex is much less taboo in pop culture, but today's pop stars would never dare do what she did. could u imagine Beyonce, ariana grande or Taylor swift releasing a music video portraying themselves in dominatrix poses or stopping traffic completely naked? they would never dare go that far, that's why Madonna is the one true queen.

I have this song and album on vinyl, and yes it`s fantastic.
compare this to Serge Gainsbourg's "Je t'aime...moi non plus", Erotica has much more layers and depth, this is why I love her so much.
I love it you finally reacted to the uncensored version
Interpretation of art. She rocks!!! Love your show and insight. Check out, Prince and Madonna ~ Love Song.
That’s my all-time favourite Madonna song! ❤️❤️❤️
Jungle Boogie was sampled in this song. The way it was placed is genius.
This is type of music you’d hear in a bathhouse or cinema, playing on loop with porn.... I mean, I dunno... bahaha! Dereck, you’re a freak! Love it!
I have this album on vinyl! It's fantastic!
A cultural reset through a through.
I do have the album on Vinyl, as well as the single! I do love listening to it better than streaming or CD... It is the experience!
Only the one that hurts you, can make you feel better...
I got this album on vinyl, bought it in 1992 and have played the hell out of it. 🕺💋🕺💋🕺
Erotica is recognized by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as one of the most revolutionary albums of "ALL TIME"!! Who the fuck else could pull that off but Madonna!!! All female artist should bow to her, she continues to break ground!!
I'm pretty sure she sampled Kool and the Gang - Jungle Boogie for this track.
Yes i believe its mentioned in Wikipedia
You are the Best Reacter!
the kiss is with NAOMI and the vynil scratch at the beginning and end is intentionally part of the song! My fav from this album is THIEF of HEARTS
👑 Queen all the time MADONNA much love from Indonesia 🇮🇩
It wasn't forbidden in Germany, the Americans are a bit prudish
Germany is an interesting country they don’t give any shits their
Agreed
hi this was madonna's first album to be released on cd support. she madonna loved vinyl and decided to incorporate it into the song plus she bought the cheapest microphones on the market to get a dirtier sound on her voice. in that same period the sex book was also released from which the music video was taken on the various photo sets, in addition with the book there was a cd with a version of erotica with different text.
Most controversial step ever made by a female artist..!! Love it..!! And yes, I have it on vinyl..!! I remember all the drama she had after that.
I love how watching the video made you consistently moan LOL!
iconic album. so ahead of her time. Queen.
I loved this.Lots of people thought she'd gone too far.
for me is on of the most atemporal album of her, she was ahead of her time
@@juanandres724 I agree,it blew a lot of small minds.
Madonna is a great artist
The Erotica was awesome, liberating album. It came it out the same time as her photograph book on "Sex". The U.S. press trashed her nonstop. You should check out her song "Where life begins" and "Fever" Madonna has balls!
It's funny to watch this video and think back when it was released. Here in Brazil, no surprise, the ''Erotica'' video was shown on TV at any time. I remember watching it in the middle of the afternoon while having a snack. I was 14 years old then. My dad was not very fond of the idea of me enjoying Madonna's music, but, well, whatever.
Love your video and it's not even over.
💖
The Erotica album is my absolute favourite Madonna album... 💚
Erotic.... “My name is Dita
I'll be your mistress tonight
I'll be your loved one darling
Turn off the light
I'll be your sorceress, your heart's magician
I'm not a witch, I'm a love technician
I'll be a guiding light in your darkest hour
I'm going to change your life, I'm like a poison flower”....
luv that remix
I got the notification and thought to myself, "Dereck, they're playing your song." :D
We say a lot has changed since this was released but she’s the reason why that change has happened. This song went along way to changing a lot despite the backlash at the time.
The brass instrumentation is a sample of "Jungle Boogie". This whole album is a brilliant masterpiece
The Erotica period and album is the greatest and totally sublime
I loved all of the Erotica album it was one of her best eras.
Erotica is a great era of Madonna, album and singles
Great reaction Dereck:) an iconic era in pop music... what Madonna did here is so brave and unique. True today sex is much less taboo in pop culture, but today's pop stars would never dare do what she did. could u imagine Beyonce, ariana grande or Taylor swift releasing a music video portraying themselves in dominatrix poses or stopping traffic completely naked? they would never dare go that far, that's why Madonna is the one true queen.
The reason things have changed is because of madonna
If some people here in America are uncomfortable watching this then don’t watch don’t cause it to get banned I wonder if people are still uncomfortable watching this
I think some still are uncomfortable hahahaha
People are intimidated when sex enters the conversation but when it's war, it's met with unbridled enthusiasm.
A masterpiece, what does it means “im going bananas” jijij it seems some fun 😻 I love that you love Madonna 😘
