I was an "all the way through" MOTU kid and I loved Extendar. He was stronger that He-Man in my little world, but only when extended. His peace sign was a weak spot that caused him to shrink back down. Bringing back these little memories are why I still love Classics so much.
"Fun" trivia: we have a very common candy here in Finland called Marianne that has precisely the same pearly hue as Extendar has. I remember wondering (as a kid) if these two are linked. 😅
I loved that you gave him a lance, but I wished it extended as well like everything else. I know his original shield was plain when folded up, but I've always felt it needed a design, logo or symbol on it. Also if you had released a re-paint after the original release with green instead of gold, I would have totally bought that as well, I think collectors would get it and thin it was funny.
In the original design, the way I drew it, his armor was Crimson and gold. If you'd like to hear the true story of how he came to be, I'd be more than happy to tell it to you.
@@FNHot They had success after greedily accepting an outside design submission, which did help bolster new sales for them in that product line, and somewhere along the way in a very short time frame, they were able to come up with all sorts of new characters before the release of the movie, which; due to poor reception, doomed the toy line to eventual decline. In '87, they were so desperate, that they decided to run a contest for outside design submissions for a paltry prize and recognition for the winner, just to keep things going. I remember those little magazines that they eventually started sending out about the whole toy line and seeing the offer for the contest. Naturally, I submitted another design, but by then I am sure they knew me by name and automatically rejected my submission. The winning design was for the character "The Fearless Photog"...the kid who won has an article about it on Wikipedia, I believe his name was Nathan. He was the only other kid in that time that was able to make a successful break, although he definitely gained recognition for his idea, and probably a nice reward for it. Eventually, my family forgot about the whole thing, but I will go to my grave with those memories. At the least, I was able to realize my concept and see it actually produced for the public-something that still gives me warm fuzzies when I think about the whole experience. Every time I look at the actual action figure on my desk, I get to relive those days. In truth, all I wanted out of it, from the perspective as a nine year old, was a toy in the mail..lol. And at most, I was able in some small way to change popular culture in my time. But I learned to never share any more of my ideas with anyone. The only consolation have is that most, if not all involved in the swindle are all now long dead...lol.
The engineering that went into those action features in those toys back then was nothing short of amazing. I remember having the flash in the old kenner line where you squeezed his arms and his legs would move as if he was running. Good times.
I had him as a kid. One of my favorites of my He-Man collection. I didn't know until this video that he was supposed to be a knight. That's actually pretty cool. I'm waiting for an Origins version of him.
I had the original and I was happy to get the Classics figure. I remember the action feature on the vintage was a ton of fun to play with. There were some figures that just hit right with me as a kid. Thunder Punch He-Man, Extendar, Scare Glow....I loved their little gimmicks. And yes, Scott, modular figures and interchangeability is awesome! We need more of it in the action figure world.
I had him as a kid. It's because of features like his and his shield that made me a fan of the features. Don't worry Scott, I caught your table of the elements joke. Pretty slick there.
I remember the original being hard for me to find as a kid. I found him in the toy section of Montgomery Ward, back when they had a toy section. And back when there was still a Montgomery Ward, for that matter.
Love this figure! I ended up getting two, so I could have one standard, and one double-extended. Unfortunately, the extra-tall one fell over, and his chest armour got "stained" by falling against Stonedar.
I had one when I was a kid, and always thought it was a pretty cool figure. I seem to recall finding it in a box sometime later and yeah, his gloves had turned green. I think they could use the Hordak related origin for Revelation if they really wanted to. Not sure if they would, but I know they like to bring in characters that had figures but never showed up in the animation.
I am very glad you added a lance as he was one of those vintage guys who needed a weapon.it just adds to the character.the laserlot backlash probably has more to do with how plain the figure looks.more armor would've done much to improve him and the somewhat plain look he had.I understand this was a guy johns made as a kid so I see what you were going for.also I think many thought that since this was created by the guy who revitalised green lantern and worked on many other titles that he could've come up with something better.that's just my opinion on it
Been wanting to ask you this: What happens to Keclar if the Eternia playset DOESN'T make it to 10k orders? Set aside for another opportunity? A con exclusive? Mattel Creations? What would you do or try to do?
Hey Scott, MOTU Origins tidbit from Canada for you. In my town of 2000 people at the local "Dollar Bits" store (something like the american Dollar Tree) they have Terror Claws Skeletor and Flying Fists He-man for half price of the Toys R Us MSRP. Don't know what it says about the line's health, but another piece of info for you.
I get that the Horde was trying to use Dragstor and Extendar's athleticism to their advantage but was there something specific they were trying for? Was Extendar deemed a failure just because he sides with the Masters.
I think Extendar was one of the last figures I got torward the end of the line with Río blast! I thought they were Awesome and still do. I couldn't believe the One was made in Classics👌
One of the producers of the Masters of the Universe: Revelation said that when people asked why they didn't use an actual black character like Sir Laser Light instead of making King Grayskull black
When this figure was released I was thinking - What's the purpose of buying Mekaneck now if you don't have him already. Extendar basically makes Mekaneck redundant.
I never knew he existed until recently when someone used his armour for a custom. I really like his design, especially the fact Classics gave him a lance as a weapon. I hope whenever he eventually joins Origins and/or Masterverse, he comes with it as well as the shield. Also, I never personally liked the comment about Sir Lasor-Lot from the Revelations team. He's never been in anything outside of Classics and some of the DC Comics (which I didn't know about until I got the Omnibus), and I'm a strong believer that any character can be good when well written. Dismissing a character like that is just wasted potential in my eyes.
I was an early-line MOTU kid, but I'm pretty sure Extendar was the last figure I bought. I bought him precisely because he looked like a knight. His "action feature" always seemed lame, to me, and his lack of a hand that could hold a weapon made him ultimately pretty disappointing, from a play standpoint. He looked cool as heck, though.
Honestly, I feel like Mattel could have gotten away with Extendar as a construction worker, I mean, Snout Spout is an Eternian firefighter, why not an Eternian construction worker? (not knocking Snout Spout, just pointing that out)
Why if it isn't good old 'Doodon'. The not so bendy, but oh, so Extendy member of the MOTU mythos 😂 Here's some rather EXTEND-sive personal info on this perpetually prolonged paladin: ua-cam.com/video/3Cd5ch8nbCE/v-deo.html
Sword & Sorcery is not about knights. Despite being a mixture of different eras, it basically stops in the late antiquity. A classic medieval knight, that we know from stories like from an Âventiure, rather fits into a Historical-Fiction & Mythology setting.

Rio Blast is so underrated.
