I baked from scratch up to last year, I use to feel guilty esp when other IG bakers tlk about scratch but I’m over it because as you said they don’t know the difference . I’ll try your way for a next cake
I use to feel guilty too. Until i tasted the cake mix and it was pretty good and i also realized that alot of top bakers use it as a base for the cake because that's what i do. I am also able to take more cake orders. I'll be doing a scratch vs cake mix video and show the difference and if i consider it as cheating and the pro's and cons.

Can this work for other flavours of cake mix? Eg. Chocolate flavour
Yes it can. 1/2 cup cocoa powder, 1/2 cup flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 Extra egg and use 1 1/4 cup of brewed coffee instead of water.
