I was there taking photographs that day with a bunch of friends who were visiting me for a few days from Slough. Fantastic memories. Sadly I didn’t see myself on your film but thanks for posting it.
I was there! I was at Richmond Terrace Technical College, and some pals and I went down to the beach at our lunch break. I was 19 years old at the time.
I was manager of the fish restaurant `Fri-inn` down West Street and the beaching of the Athena B brought visitors from all over and the restaurant did a great trade while it was there.
This was my Brother-in -law's ship, he was captain and had his family on board, can you imagine the horror they went through as they were rescued that night, absolutely terrifying. they had to jump from the ship to get to the lifeboats
I was living in Hove near the sea front and walked with my friend and our two children in pushchairs to see the Athena B. The wind was still very strong and we had a struggle walking. I was expecting my daughter and friends joked I should have called her Athena.
I used to live in Brighton between 1975 and 1979 .while studying in sussex. Buestiful town
This was my grandfather's ship! Walking in Brighton, it had never crossed my mind that this Anchor belonged to Athina B!! Thank you for the memories.

I searched for Brighton in the 80's and found your video, I watched and appreciated the footage. Thanks for putting it online.
Top work! I was down there as a 5 year old with my Dad and my baby brother in a buggy!
Simon, there's a fb group called Brighton-Past. I'm sure the members would love this!
Feel free to re-post/share :)
Simon Treves Thanks, Simon. Will do.
I was also there as a 5 year old with my dad and older sister. I remembered being scared because of the shear size of it.
Hello to Jenny and Co, good footage....appreciated.
I remember this well. I lived just up the road. I'm still about.

Or Athena A and Athena B?
Saltdean refers to the later shots. We lived there 1979-1985 ;)
would love to know what the soundtrack music is. Delius maybe?
I was there, but it wasnt Saltdean, nothing against Saltdean mind you!
Close. Vaughan Williams.
Do you happen to know the name of the piece?
Didn’t Vaughan Williams go to school for a while in Rottingdean, up the road from here btw?
who is this?
