    I have a weight vest. To suddenly add on just 40lb of dead weight is crazy... he added 70 something and still rock climbs... most people can't even jog properly with that much % of body weight suddenly added.

      For sure. I'm 6 foot 3 and 230lb to begin with, and I'm damn proud of 8 clean pull ups, and 15 dips. Add 45lb and I'm seriously struggling to complete my second set of 3 chin ups, as I failed on my first set of 3 pull ups and had to switch grips.
      I was seriously surprised how different dead weight is compared to when I weighed 270 a few months ago.
      Seriously impressive power to weight ratio. This is the equivalent of me strapping on 115lb and climbing, except I wouldn't be able to do anything with that percentage of my weight added.

      But at the same time people climbing mountains have to do this with a pack on. Which doesn't take away from Magnus, dude's a beast. But to take the skills out of the gym and onto a mountain you need to be able to do what Magnus is doing. Maybe not a 70 LB pack but they're not doing it at just body weight.

      also juji is used to that weight

    • @elijahtingler8044
      @elijahtingler8044 4 роки тому +235

      Well kind of, the real reason its u fair is juji weighs that much and most of it is muscle, magnus weighs 150 and just added 80 ibs of dead weight, juji can lift way more than magnus for instance because he has far more muscle mass, but when magnus doesn’t have the weight vest he can do far more pull ups, dips etc., anything that advantages strength to weight ratio. With the 80ib its not really fair at all because they are both at their own strengths still but magnus gained weight. If now magically magnus could curl as much as juji or deadlift or anything that advantages more brute force strength, then it would be even.

    • @robrobusa
      @robrobusa 4 роки тому +81

    • @bryann_110

      Plot twist! Larger muscles fatigue much faster and don't necessarily output force efficiently. While Juji may have stronger muscles, they will certainly fatigue many times faster, allowing Magnus a significant advantage within the first few minutes of exercise.

Loosing weight helps a lot, but there is a whole lot to climbing that is psychological and about building confidence. That’s why I like climbing so much it’s both literally and figuratively a very balanced type of exercise. All that extra weight from muscle mass is a real hindrance when climbing and doing pullups. I wish there was a way to see a difference in muscle density between the different athletes. A lighter more dense muscle would be vastly superior when it comes to this kind of stuff. But how much does having big bulky muscles add to strength compared to more dense lean muscle mass?

    • @FistDaMonkey
      @FistDaMonkey 4 роки тому +3

      I think it depends on the training required for the specific sport. Sprinters have quite a mass on them as well but all they train is explosive strength. A marathon runner with all their lighter and denser muscle mass wouldn't be able to match the explosive dash behind a sprinter. Nor would a bodybuilder who has more muscle mass than a sprinter be able to beat them in a 100 m race.

    • @stoneprone8629
      @stoneprone8629 4 роки тому +1

      You can train strength and retain lean muscles through repetition, most people push for PR, all big weight training. But long term consistent training at light to moderate weight will grant you the strength without the mass. Train with a 30 lb dumbbell until it’s so light it doesn’t take any effort to lift it. Like picking up a glass of water. You could eventually reach 60lbs and that alone would make you incredibly strong. Not to say bigger weight isn’t great, but if you want to stay lean that’s the idea. The key is much higher reps, but obviously with lower weight than you usually would.

I love how humble you are and how encouraging you are to everyone you compete against. Those extra pounds Magnus put on were not muscles but fat.
