The similarities between cults and military groups is pretty scary. The conditioning, the erosion of your identity, working towards a greater goal without question, etc. The key difference though is that soldiers are trained that way so they can survive on the battlefield, cults solely benefit the leader.
Although the military hardly takes care of their soldiers and vets so maybe there's no difference at all.

I think what solidified it was what Solid Snake was that at the time of the OG He was a nobody with no renown, full of recessive genes, on his first mission with little real training, SOLO, with an unreliable support structure... He had nothing going for him and every single odd against him and still reigned supreme over a hand crafted almost super soldier and an entire army. Solid Snake defies everything Zero ever thought of Les Enfants Terrible and the phantom project.

    • @YogurtGaming69

@@Meatball_Tea Recessive genes are usually more rare first of all. Second of all how do you know that Zero and Big Boss didn't send Solid Snake to Zanzibar land to re-create the events of Virtous Mission? Snake comes in with no weapons into foreign ground and kills his mentor to achieve world peace. What I am saying is that Solid Snake isn't as down bad as you think, and Venom had everyone conspiring to use him as a sacrificial pawn in their worldly games.

One key point of context on Miller, though; he did admit at the end of Peace Walker that he'd knowingly let a triple agent into their midst just so it would be easier to piggyback on Big Boss's skills and legend to start his mercenary company -- meaning that all the suffering Big Boss went through during Peace Walker is at least indirectly Miller's fault... and he was pretty much completely on board to use Venom the same way in Phantom Pain. Huey might be a rat, but if you'll pardon the pun, Miller's a snake who acts like he too should get a free pass for his own treachery and is insulted that it isn't forgotten; Venom, Ocelot, and the player are perfectly justified in keeping him in check.

How on Earth did people even come to such a horrendously misdirected conclusion of PW?
Miller was a double agent at best as he was only involved with Cipher; specifically, he had a deal with Major Zero and this was well after he formed MSF with BB.
Both Zero and Miller wanted BB's legend to grow. Zero wanted to use BB's legacy to mask the Patriot's future activities whereas Miller saw it as an opportunity for him and Big Boss to realise their dreams for MSF. Their goals correlate to a point and so Miller took up Zero's deal and established a working partnership with Cipher under the one condition that Zero wouldn't harm Big Boss or replace him with the clones. This was the condition Miller insisted on prior to taking on the deal.
Miller's friendship with BB was genuine - anyone that had actually played Peace Walker and went through the tapes would realise this and he spent YEARS distracting XOF from the comatose Big Boss which cost him his limbs.

@iammrbadguy9706 We actually have 0 evidence that Huey is a traitor. The only one claiming to have circumstantial evidence is Miller, the other most likely suspect, and someone with far more motive.
Of course we're talking about a game where the "Truth" tapes may not actually be true, and Kojima explicitly contradicted them in an interview, where he claimed Big Boss was only ever in one coma, the one he was in when his material was taken to make the Snakes. That means anything to do with the Ground Zeroes coma is a lie.
In all likelihood, Big Boss orchestrated the destruction of MSF as a strike back at Cypher, who had infiltrated and co-opted them as their personal tool via Miller. This also explains why there was a camp omega PoW that alluded to being tortured by someone who may have been Big Boss instead of Skullface.

And lastly, and maybe most importantly, the tape that suggests what happened with strangelove...let´s just say, Huey is the worst. @iammrbadguy9706 Huey lied about strangelove, but being a shitty scumbag does not mean he's a traitor. We never had evidence Huey was involved with the second vocal cord parasite outbreak. Miller suggests it with situational evidence, but if you paid attention to conversations leading up to it, Miller shut Huey up when he tried to mention potential issues. Essentially, Miller knew about the issue and covered it up, and at least allowed it to happen, if not outright orchestrated it, and used the outbreak as an excuse to execute Huey, which Venom objected to.

the thing is Big Boss is not even sugarcoating it for his soldiers, he straight up told them “we may go to hell” so i dont think its a brain washing, also his not a talkative character, he is just extremely going forward and soldiers who knew his story they can relate to him, thats why they are dying to Join him. But i gotta admit, the whole Diamond Dogs and Kaz abandonment is messed up.

The iDroid was part of his conditioning.
We know the that Ground Zeros was a false memory and the the only person to use the iDroid is Venom (outside of that one game, but we don't need to talk about that).
The iDroid was part of insuring Venom built the PMC in a way that benefits Big Boss.

This video proved my suspicions regarding Diamond Dogs as a cult, Venom’s and Ocelot’s role. Miller reallly got the worst out of all of this, which explains the ending of V.
    Very well done, awesome !!!

This is a solid (heh) video essay, I find most essays on Metal Gear are nothing but fluff, this however has a good thesis and drives it home.

I think it's also worth noting that the armies you recruit from are notoriously brutal and unforgiving such as the Soviet union and south African dictatorships/insurgent groups what soldier wouldn't want to join especially since the reward for joining is not having to worry about your CO accusing you of things that could get you sent to a labor camp/killed.

you forgot Zero...Zero adored him. It was Zero's idea to make Big Boss an idol.
Zero is the real evil. After a while, he and Big Boss parted ways. But you purposefully forgot this huh? cherry picking bias, tsc...

Skullface made zero braindead during snake' 9 year coma and so he couldn't control the Patriots AI and it got out of control. Zero even visited snake when he was on his coma and he missed him, had they talked, MG1 and so on wouldn't have happened/avoided.

Zero and Big Boss ultimately ended up being enemies. What’s your point? Big Boss killed parents to create orphans and feed them back onto the battlefield. It baffles me how people seem to gaslight the heck out of the Big Boss legend.

@@TacticsTechniquesandProcedures What's wrong with any of that. I'm not trolling. I'm not being edgy. For all of human history up until the last maybe 50 years, war and fighting have been the only constant reality. The period we live in now is the abnormality and it's a period that is very fragile. It takes a lot of work and hundreds of national and international institutions just to keep relative peace in the world and even still there are wars, there are invasions. What would you rather those orphans become? Prostitutes? Child sex workers? Far fetched? Look at what happened to the Germans after world war 1. It is something that has happened many times in history. Would you rather those children starve? Go to orphanages? And when another war or fight or conquest happens then what? Be conscripted into an army or conquered by one? And if they are conscripted to what army? A just army? A good one? Or will they be turned into barbarians or cannon fodder. This is the reality of the last 2000 years of human history sans the last 50 years, and you think THIS period of history with your peaceful morality will continue forever? You don't think the smallest road-bump won't send us off this path of peace?
We live in an abnormal time and your faux outrage over what you see depicted in a video game, a fiction, which is far more representative of real life than the aberration we currently live in... man get over yourself.

anytime I hear the phrase “A weapon” my mind immediately goes to “a weapon to surpass metal gear?!!!?!!”
For example I was watching the boys when I heard about the weapon that can kill supes, and they said “ a weapon to defeat homelander” I immediately thought of “a weapon to surpass metal gear”
