What is tae-kwon-do's style? THERE IS NO STYLE ITF (International Tae-kwon-do Federation) NEM WTF (World Tae-kwon-do Federation). WTF and ITF are Federations. Examples of Tae-kwon-do styles: MOO DUK KWAN; YON MOO KWAN (CHI DOO KWAN); SON MOO KWAN; CHANG DOO KWAN; CHANG MOO KWAN; JIDOKWAN. Therefore, ITF and WTF styles DO NOT exist. They are, respectively, the INTERNATIONAL TAEKWONDO FEDERATION and the WORLD TAEKWONDO FEDERATION, which are federations, which were created to serve all tae-kwon-do practitioners in the world. The different styles of tae-kwon-do, are the ones mentioned above, where each one has its own characteristic, but all of them, similar in the method of teaching, where we have the discipline, as one of the main factors, besides learn the Way of the Feet and the Hands. (That is the meaning of the word TAEKWONDO.) Warning: If WTF and ITF were style to CBTKD, KUKKIWON would also be tae-kwon-do style. The styles mentioned also have federations of their own.
I have never say anything about styles,What I mean that video show the best expression of taekwondo, that kind of techniques should be teach in classes, not only when you get a black belt. I have been study taekwondo chunk do kwan and only did "one step sparring" for self defense wich I find it usless. I never did a "choke defense or any kind of grab and I am a 3er gup. Lucky for me I do krav maga.
I agree with your view that this video demonstrates that this is the definition of taekwondo, as a martial art being taught with a focus on combat, self defense. There is no such sporting style. Never would the military or police officers train for sporting purposes. I just mentioned the styles to demonstrate that any martial art can expand. Cool that you practice krav maga, but can I suggest that you add practice Kombato, an offensive personal defense? good training
There's different organisations and modern tkd is only 67 years old. Itf and Wtf differs in point systems mainly. And therefore a slightly different "style" to it. I was active in Wtf between 1981 - 2000 but I do not hold a grand master degree but I do however know that my coaches with 6th Dan and up told me "it's only politics" up there. You can dig out soooo many different Korean martial arts but they have to join one or another organisation if they want to stay alive. Not very different from a bunch of good red belts opening a martial art school but they have to join something to be something. Gymnastics probably if they do not have a head coach belonging to any legit org. It's mainly concidered a sport. Because of rules and point systems. And my experience showed me how different tkd schools clings on to poomsaes/katas for the tradition. Nothing wrong with that. Some people get different things better than others. I liked to spar. So bad at terminologi and poomsaes. Then you have Hapkido that was heavily involved in Wtf in the 80s, 90s and in the early 2000s. Today?.. Idk. Had nothing to do with the kickbased sport were used to see in tournaments today. But mostly for graduation and some liked it. Its Korean. There's probably 100s of other reasons to why tkd is tkd today. I just mentioned a few. Please correct me if I'm wrong somewhere. I'd rather be wrong to learn something new and correct. Remember... Martial Taekwondo is very different from Taekwondo sport. It is a pure martial art, where the practitioner does breathing training, training, concentration techniques and resistance training. The fights are made in the style total contact, without protection and being valued low kicks, punches in the faces, falls, strangulation and immobilization. Learning to use white weapons and improvised weapons is also part of the student's curriculum. Techniques with firearms are also taught, but in this case only to the military. General Choi Hong Hi (considered the father of Taekwondo) and Master Nam Tae Hi (at that time colonel and his right arm) created Taekwondo by linking him with these principles. Martial Taekwondo is used by Korean police and military forces.
those knife and hand to hand combat techniques are from eskrima/kali and not of tkd. They are not putting credits of the orginal owner of the technique
