Bit of everything really, they need to tell ATC their position and intentions, complete pre-takeoff checks, radio their police units their intentions and wait for the engine(s) to warm up and stabilize. Same thing happens on commercial flights.
It's my understanding that most police helicopter crews in the UK are 3 man crews, the third person being the camera or systems operator. In the US almost all are 2 man crews perhaps with the exception of those that have a paramedic on board and double as an EMS ship.
Kids remember, RC helicopters aren't like real helicopters. It doesn't take just one push of the throttle to take up. It needs to warm the engine and everything.
If you learn to fly , drive or anything in the army it's the best way to do it.....so RAF would get you a better chance at becoming search and rescue or police air unit.
I hate it when the police helicopter comes round at 2or 3 in the morning scary shit when you get woken up hearing the helicopter above the my house annoying
Police Helicopters, could be made safer by being able to fly as a conventional airplane with the ability to take off and land vertically, and hover just like the RAF war planes..
Joseph Landrut and just think of the cost...... they already need to make £23m in savings over the next few years. They can’t afford hybrid aircraft - they’re moving away from helicopters to fixed wing for price
How would that be safer…? That’s more components to go wrong and during operations they spend most of the time hovering or moving at slow speeds. The ability to fly like a plane would be pointless.
If you moan about NPAS being over your house, spare a thought for the burglar or criminal that is most likely running through or hiding in your garden. It's a formidable tool in catching criminals. Lastpostbugler... I agree, air ambulances should have some central funding, then the police helicopter might not have to pick up the slack when air evacuations are required.
dymproductions The Met will more then likely be joining NPAS soon but they will be kept within there own region and will only serve London so not much will change apart from the ownership of the aircraft. the current issue is on who will dispatch the aircraft, All NPAS aircraft are currently dispatched by West Yorkshire Police, London will are trying to get the Lippits hill base dispatched in the same way they currently are apparently.

the need to government fund air ambulance because they don't take off and land at `1 am in the morning then keep you awake all night also the air ambulance acctuly saves lives with the met police helicopter on hand though
daniel c so this searching a suspect on the run with a firearm wouldn’t save a life? Imagine that suspect going and shooting a busy area killing loads of people. Now that’s saved a few lives now hasn’t it
+Odin Matrix yes mate, just find out my apologies. Bit confused because of the tail and the front seems a tiny similar to the Bell 429 at a quick look, most of all the engine cover. Thanks.
Great footage. Would you be able to get in touch with me at Rcody@cineflix.com please? - we'd really like to use some of the shots in the series we are currently producing for the BBC. THANKS
They are a major pain in the ass for noise. They ought to be banned. If they are out tracking car theives then make the fucking punishment hardsher so other people don't have to endure this fucking noise from the cops helicopter engines. It is nothing less than abuse imo.
Call your Local police station and ask about Police Cadets (if you want to be part of the air support unit). I believe you need to be 14 but it helps. If they carry out what they said I will be fast tracked in next year because I am a cadet. If you want Air force (RAF) Join air cadets. I don't know much about them i am afraid.
Thanks for posting.
Fantastic skilful pilots...
Nice flying
That 145 has all sorts of nice bells whistles and goodies.
And I didn't know you guys across the pond had the same sirens as us!?
Belle prise de vue.
Why does it take a while before it lifts off the ground? Because of routine checks?
Engine may take a while to fully start up and warm up a bit.
air traffic control
Bit of everything really, they need to tell ATC their position and intentions, complete pre-takeoff checks, radio their police units their intentions and wait for the engine(s) to warm up and stabilize. Same thing happens on commercial flights.
stealth1692 Not just that.
It’s before flight checks

1 pilot, front seat observer operates camera and rear one uses radio/mapping/comms

I'm guessing this is India 99?
There is india 97, 98, 99. Depending on which of the 3 helicopters. Could have been any of them.

Met Police is not NPAS. But yes, good point.
NPAS requires all forces in England & Wales to sign up to the service by January 2015. If the Met aren't already, they will be.
yup. What do you think about NPAS? I'm confused about my opinion on this one...
