    Don't you think you should of started with, how to actually get Chirp to connect to the radio?

    • @twohandsandaradio
      @twohandsandaradio 3 роки тому +1

      That's what I thought at first. It is a bit of a Japanese fingertrap but Chirp does tell you exactly what to do to connect so I think he explained it quite well.

    The link to repeaterbook in this software just made me smile from ear to ear! What I thought would be a daunting task is a few clicks away. Thank you from a new, yet to be licensed ham in Canada

    I used Chirp for the initial set up. In that way I was able to import the local repeaters in one feel swoop, nice and easy. I would recommend following the instructions to the letter, you will have no issues. Then I installed the ADMS-10 S/W from Yaesu. Now I use that as a back up tool for my FT-70, in case I need to reinstall/rebuild for any reason I can use the standard Yaesu method of doing so.

    WONDERFUL videos and I love that they are mostly scripted and well thought out!! Thank you

      Thank you. I do some scripting to keep me on point. Too easy to rant or chase rabbits.

    Great explanation. Thank you for this. Your tip about the padlock icon when in ADMS mode no doubt saved me hours puzzling over that one! I've subscribed to your channel as you explain things very clearly. Thank you.

    I really wanted to know how to get /started to connect to the Ft-70/ with CHIRP. For that, I had to wait until 10 minutes into the vid. There I learned that the connect method is virtually the same as when using the ADMS-10 software. I did the connect, and downloaded a baseline from the new radio, as I am used to doing in CHIRP (or other programs), so that I can restore to some good state. After that, well...return to the vid to get the rest of the story.

    How were you able to set the Mode in Chirp to allow for "DN" (YSF/Fusion) from your Yaesu? The options seem to only be FM, AM, and NFM. I thought at first maybe the NFM would be the same as digital. Not so. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.

    As usual great video! I was informed by HRO (assuming this is true) but if your Yeasu has a warranty problem and you used CHIRP it voids the warranty. I want to contact Yeasu to really find out. However I used the RTS software and it was MUCH easier to program with that than CHIRP or Yeasu's software. Im still trying to figure out WIRES X and stuff tho.

    Bummer that the banks don't work when you set them up in Chirp. The names were updated when I go into the deep F menu...but bank scans don't work. Also looked like all of the memory channels are either AM or FM...doesn't let you save a memory channel as Automatic Mode Select? Or is that what AM is referring to in the drop down?

    Hi: I have the Yaesu FT70D. I want to program this radio using the
    , but every time that I connect the data cable I have
    this message "" INVALID COM SETTING"" How can I solve this issue?
    Thanks

    • @GadgetTalk4U
      @GadgetTalk4U  4 роки тому

      An invalid com setting usually means that the selected com port is wrong. Try another com port. Also, you can try a different USB port on the computer. Sometimes the computer treats them separately. Good Luck.

    However Chirp only allows you to program analogue channels. You need the manufacturers software to progran the digital channels.

    Did you have to load some driver for the data cable to be recognized?

    • @GadgetTalk4U
      @GadgetTalk4U  11 місяців тому

      I don't remember. It's been a long time since I set this up. I checked the product page on Yaesu.com and they didn't have driver instructions so my guess is no.

    hey guys ive got this error : Failed to communicate with the radio: Radio did not ack block 1 . any ideas ?

    • @GadgetTalk4U
      @GadgetTalk4U  2 роки тому

      Failure to communicate with the radio normally means you have the wrong comm port selected or the cable's chip's drivers aren't loaded. Check device manage for the usb comm port number and/or reload drivers (or use a different cable). One last thing, make sure radio volume is fairly high.

    Unfortunately CHIRP is not fully mature as of FT-70DE/R. There isn't possibility to set Transmit Modulation Level (Wide vs Narrow) so NFM entries are rejected when present in imported .csv files.
    Yaesu software has this feature.
    I am in doubt in some situations how to set Transmit Modulation Level in specific situations (don't know if and how is modulation width connected with frequency step - for example in Czech republic we have a set of VHF/UHF frequencies free to use without license with given maximum bandwidth so I think to set it correctly I must SOMEHOW play with frequency step and transmit modulation level. But how, it is unclear to me at the moment.

    • @AZJim12

      Your first statement is completely true. I tried to point out some other shortfalls in the video. For more than the basics, the Yeasu software, while clunky (but free) would work better. I haven't tried the commercial CPS. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    What the heck was Yaesu thinking. The procedure to get the radio into programming mode... weird. Yaesu programming software just as weird. You can't open a Yaesu img file without loading from your radio first. Great little radio but battery life falls short.

    To use Chirp, do we need to do the same "dance routine" like using ADMS? e.g. power on/off unplug etc. Thanks!

    • @GadgetTalk4U
      @GadgetTalk4U  3 роки тому

      Yes but not as bad. Chirp will put the instructions on the screen when you select the radio.
