He's still one of the best stackers, maybe #2 behind Joseph, he just can't compete with the tappers because they can build so much higher. Hard to say Joseph isn't the GOAT now though, plays at a much higher level than everyone else even in the current hypercompetitive era
Many thanks to the UA-cam recommended tab, the Tetris community and the mastermind before this very game for granting us such tense and amazing moments of gaming!
These really are addicting to watch. Just watched Joseph dethrone 7-time champ Jonas here, now I'm hooked. Also, I love how happy Quaid got with his first win here.
Its crazy to watch this and see how much the game has evolved with the onslaught of hypertappers and fresh talent from all around the globe. Also the fact that they didnt yet have mirrored pieces....
I believe at 33:17, the emcee in the background should have waited until their round was finished. It looked like it almost distracted Quaid, but I guess that's an observation. I mean really, don't be talking over the sound system when a round is happening.
I thought the same thing, it's obvious that it distracted him enough to cause him to fuck up. He was going perfect until the announcer started talking. Dude on the speaker really needed to shut the fuck up and wait e.e Is it really that important of a message?
i'm guessing this tournament was likely at a bigger convention, with heaps of shit going on, that's probably the announcer for the entire convention hall, not just the tetris tournament, so the guy on the PA probably had no idea
rip joans the goat, re-watching this match amazes me how far competitive tetris has come. in this match 700k wins fast forward to now unless you max out you already lost
I first found this video in early 2016 thanks to a random search of the game. I was just so amazed that my childhood favorite had become something like this. (not to mention saddened I didn't know about it in 2010) Now I look at this and I'm blown away by how much the skill ceiling has risen. (and also well both players were able to grow with the scene)
Jonas Neubauer April 19, 1981 - January 5, 2021 Passing the torch to the new generations. Thanks for everything Jonas! Will remember you the most in October during CTWC....
"Okay, need me some white noise to run in the background while I work. Oh Tetris, this should do fine. Let's get to work then!" It's been five days, someone help me! Can't stop watching! I'm scared and alone and running out of food!
I asked Quaid whether the announcement (IN 5 MINUTES WE WILL BE STOPPING ALL VENDOR SALES) distracted him while playing, and he said that it did and it kinda fucked up his game. Sad honestly, the venue should've waited at least until they're not in a match to announce something like that.
Going to binge watch. Deft sadden by the news. Feel bad for all his friends and family that knew him. Quaid is deft a funny guy but Jonas was an a whole other level. Rip Tetris King. Jonas will deft be miss. Watching him play got me so hyped to play NES Tetris. Deft motivated me to set up my nes and play classic Tetris on my CRT TV. Truly sadden by his passing.
This Tetris World Championship may grow to be very big in the future. People from litteraly any background can watch it and suddenly become addicted to it
Has anyone else found out about this esport and actually started playing classic tetris because of it? Cuz same. This is more intense and entertaining than most fps.
Desire Dean Matabane He has 5 so he can stack them up. He actually has a 2nd place one too which is the same but silver. Actually unsure of trophy designs for years before 2014.
This game is such a battle. I can't believe these guys' ability to stack these shapes. The number one thing I notice is their foresight with clearing lines. They immediately know where to put the two pieces so that the line gets cleared and make space.
Поддался Jonas в третьем раунде. Видно как делал триплы вместо тетрисов на 19 скорости. Настолько уверен в своих силах, что не стал расстраивать организаторов быстрым финалом. Реальный Бог.
Only started watching when Joseph won his first, the other day I saw 6.5 million points scored and the colour glitch happen, watching this is mind blowing how different the game is within 8 years
2020 Jonás got eliminated in the sweet 16 despite posting 900k plus scores and Koryan was also eliminated in the sweet 16 despite posting multiple 1million games...how the game has evolved
once you start watching this you just can't stop, it's addictive

Rafael Brito You tell me ! I don't know how this ended up on my YT time-line, but I could not stop watching it.

I've never seen a competitive event, espeically in video games, where people are so friendly to each other.
Apparently Quaid is quite the dick off camera. It is interesting how calm and respectful everyone is though.
Might surprise you, but most 1v1 tournaments require good attitude.
The funny thing about this comment is Quaid is a huge dick off screen. That's why he's my favorite

good question. Probably not, for this amouncer at least, with his jeff-bias

they really did that kind of thing on the most heating moment of a championship match. unbelievable
Natthawat Pakanunsuppawong i think it was in purpose...
That's why they wore headphones in 2016 competition.
They both heard it, It's just that Quaid was really distracted by the fact that he's behind, and got really frustrated and out of focus.
There will only be one Jonas Neubauer. Your legacy lives on in the community. Thank you.
Jonas really is the greatest of all time. The theory to the game that he figured out influences every hypertapping player today

was distracted by that myself as well
but it was likely the venue thing, they dont know what's going on in the individual booths? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
i'm guessing this tournament was likely at a bigger convention, with heaps of shit going on, that's probably the announcer for the entire convention hall, not just the tetris tournament, so the guy on the PA probably had no idea
Same for both competitors no? The tournament takes place at a convention, so that's life.
Yeah it's held at the Retro Gaming Expo. Don't think the scene is big enough for a private tournament, and attendance would be a lot lower.
The way the announcer paces in a small window adds another level of intensity and hype! RIP Jonas
