- Protests at Columbia University over the Israel-Hamas war continued for a fifth straight day Sunday, sparking more safety concerns for some students on campus. CBS New York's Shosh Bedrosian reports.
I am a graduate student in Japan, studying Frankfurt school, especially Walter Benjamin, and also read other Jewish philosophers like Hannah Arendt and Jacques Derrida. I am in solidarity with Columbia students who stand up and speak out for peace, justice and human rights.

KENT UNIVERSITY comes to mind and that is not a line that should be crossed. The same thing happened during the apartheid protests. They are young and they are expressing themselves. I will also point out that apartheid ended as it fell out of favor. I will wager that those students have taken a very deep dive into the conflict. Should anyone on either side be threatened? Absolutely not. Is it clear that thoughts on support that were a given 20 years ago are no longer unchallenged? Yes.

Columbia is going to have to decide if sacrificing the majority of the student body is worth their status as an "IVY League" school. The students in these demonstrations likely have lots of money, and I mean LOTS of money. They aren't the typical broke college student working two jobs. They have time and nearly UNLIMITED RESOURCES which means they have staying power, and in turn influence. They could quit school and never have to work a day in their lives. Not too mention the amount of donations their families have made to the school is probably more than the GDP of some countries. If Columbia wants these funds to keep flowing they would be wise to recognize the changing times or they will find themselves as the worlds nicest community college VERY QUICKLY!
