Day hike gear: snacks, water and something to filter water, knife, emergency blanket, map/compass, eating utensil / spork, fire starter kit (this is small), small first aid kit, and best piece of day hike gear is a padded seat I made from an old windshield sun blocker screen. Those old tinfoil looking ones. I cut it down to where I can fold into 4th's to fit in my pack. Sealed the edges with reflective dryer vent tape. I love this seat. Cost me nothing but gives my bum or my knees a nice break and can also be used as a small prep area for lunch. 😊
