    When I went through the academy one of the PT instructors told us "You lost the right to be out of shape when you signed on the dotted line" and she's absolutely right. I miss those early morning PT sessions.

      That’s a great way of putting it, it’s not fair to those that we serve to not be ready, whether physically or mentally. Your instructor was spot on! Keep grinding!

    One thing that is different in real life and fairly difficult to simulate is the amount of crap on the floor. Simply dragging somebody out doesn’t happen that much in the real world. There’s furniture, machinery, building materials, in some cases just hoarded crap… So that’s something to consider when you’re thinking about how you gonna get somebody out.

    Loving the videos, I can't wait for applications and testing to start in July.
    I have testing practice covered but being optimistic, I also want to be physically prepared for the physical assessment and if given the opportunity, the academy as well. Can you post videos of academy workout routines or even an instagram post of a written routine?

    • @chadpate31
      @chadpate31 3 роки тому +1

      Vanessa, we will make an attempt to get a video or parts of the last weeks of camp focused on the workouts. Make sure you have your interest card in. Good luck with testing and thanks for watching!

    Question: if you have 30 firefighters working the scene, and one company consisting of four firefighters is assigned to RIT, how many firefighters are responding to the mayday? Pretty much all of them.

    I have a question if you could respond, I got asthma I’m 4 years away from possibly joining I just need to get in shape and get my endurance and muscular endurance fitness up. Will the asthma part be a problem, should I even mention my asthma to whoever or just keep it on the DL?

    • @UnifiedFireUtah
      @UnifiedFireUtah  3 роки тому +2

      Great question. I’m sure you aren’t the only one with those concerns. Most Fire agencies do not discriminate against preexisting conditions like asthma, as long as you can pass a physical, along with the physical portion of the hiring process (ours can be found on our website). Speak to your physician to see if Fire is right for you. If not, the EMS route is also an honorable choice.

    • @chadpate31
      @chadpate31 3 роки тому +2

      Elijah, we’ve had plenty of recruits come through with asthma and as long as the physician gives the ok and you get yourself physically ready we can work on the rest. I too have asthma and the better shape I get in the better it is controlled. Totally a workable issue. Good luck! Thanks for your willingness to watch and learn and having interest in the best career ever!

    Can you be a firefighter with epilepsy?

    • @chadpate31
      @chadpate31 3 роки тому +1

      Depends on the limitations your physician puts on you. Some medical conditions do make it difficult to become a firefighter but there’s always a chance. Thanks for watching.
