It was a good movie but I feel like it threw us into the “people trying to survive on their own” phase too quickly. The whole point of “Day One” should have been seeing humanity grapple with and try to understand what the heck these new creatures are, but the characters’ complete lack of curiosity regarding the aliens made it hard to feel that way.
Well said. We didn't even see a single character who was amazed/ obsessed with the creatures or trying to figure them out (even if it cost them their life). This movie is set in New York, USA, and I don't think I recall a single person shooting at the aliens in order for them to learn that the aliens are practically bulletproof. I could go on and on...
At this point, Cloverfield is unironically a better "what if" Day One than this film.
@@jase276 This series lost me after the 2nd movie. Which felt like a remake/retread of the first one. They literally just gave us the FIRST movie AGAIN. LAZY! It wouldn't suprise me if the "2nd movie" was based on an alternate version of the script from the first movie, that they dug up and adapted.

Why can’t these creatures hear their heartbeats and pulses when they are inches from the humans ? They can hear coughs and fabric tearing from blocks away but not heartbeats from 2 inches away? Come on.
Or BREATHING, which humans are ALWAYS DOING. Their hearing sensitivity is about as reliable as the NYPD.
@@everforward5561 yeah; the logic of this universe makes no sense. Humans fart when they sleep, they snore, the breath heavy. They vomit and have diarrhea.
We make too much involuntary noise for us to survive this scenario.
The funny part is they DO. One of the scenes when the creature is inching towards someone, they faintly hear their heartbeat but some helicopter or some nonsense conveniently flies by and they chase after that instead.
There is a scene where they hear a heartbeat
Plot armor! Without that glorious armor, we wouldn’t have a film. It would just be a depiction of mass slaughter. But yes, I agree - if they can hear a pin drop from a mile away, why can’t they hear a heart beat from inches away?

They didnt even show how they figured out the monsters can't see, just a cheap cut to black, and then everyone just knows.

took us less than 20 minutes to figure it out without being told during the first movie.
It's pretty obvious they're blind when the nurse is in front of one and it doesn't attack him as long as he's quiet, when you're being hunted by anything it makes complete sense to logically just stay quiet. Doesn't mean they figured it out, it's just a reasonable thing to do.

Half the scenes do this in the entire movie. No explanation at all for where all the people went that were in the theater. They're just gone suddenly. And after the nurse guy dies it just immediately cuts to another scene instead of showing how Sam got away from that situation... as a matter of fact there's multiple scenes where the monsters are right next to them and then they just disappear into thin air once the main characters are quiet for a couple seconds.
Honestly the more I think about this movie the more disappointing it is. No further explanation of the aliens. No taking advantage of how insane the initial invasion would be in a setting like new york. Way too unrealistic reactions to a situation like this. Emotional manipulation via most well behaved cat. No real stakes because our protagonist is on her deathbed anyway.
This was a cash grab making no actual impact on this universe imo.

If they explained the aliens then the other movies would have to have some piece of that in them.
Also, what's to know about the aliens that is _that_ game changing? Their Objective? I think they just want to take over the planet, and they have breeding grounds.
Idk what else there is to possibly know that is as cut and dry as their objective.
I agree this was really bad for "day one". They fast tracked the day one when she passed out. So we didn't get to see how the people transitioned from first contact to suddenly everyone knows the rules.
When she woke and they were in the church and there's so many people. That would be something you could organize months in. Not on day one lol. Any one person making a noise and then everyone gets killed.
Btw the monsters knew to not jump into the water. Like they had mapped out into their brains the edge of a dock. Sure. But no explanation.
Maybe try to put yourself in the shoes of the characters? I think this movie was extremely well done. It shows a lot more about the death angels than in the previous movies. Honestly it’s like you went into the movie with so many expectations and because you didn’t get what you wanted the movie is bad… Imagine you’re a regular New Yorker going about your life and then this happens, something so incredibly traumatic and unthinkable. Literal god mod aliens crash land and start mowing people down in droves. The only way to barely make it is to be completely quiet. Imagine yourself in that situation. What would you do? The sheer trauma alone would more than definitely stun you, and you couldn’t scream if you wanted to. There’s a scene after the massive attack on all the people trying to get to the evacuation point, where Lupita and the British dude were walking in the rain and they see a lonesome girl walking quietly with her hands wrapped around her mouth, muffling the sound of her intense grief after witnessing disgusting atrocities on people by something she doesn’t understand. She’s locked in a state of total shock. Shit was riveting dude.

The problem with these Quiet Place movies is that they don't have the balls to make them Rated R. They feel way too PG when every time a monster takes someone out they just tackle them off screen... 😮💨

I dont think so. The movie relies on Mcguyver inventions to surivive the world. Making it more violent wouldlnt make it better. it needed a better story. This movie feels sequel bating.
I don’t understand the reason for this movie. They showed the initial invasion at the beginning of the second. When I called that out online for the trailer,someone tried explaining that this was going to be the whole movie this time. But , from what I’m hearing, they glaze over the invasion again this time. So wtf am I doing here? Why do I want to see this movie with these different characters?
I feel the same way... if they just show a bit of the invasion, no finding out why they come or how the humans figure out to be quiet... then what's the point?!
Granted, maybe humans never find out why the aliens come. So it's just a mystery.. but just feel like we need something different than just to be quiet or you die for a 3rd movie.
Watch and judge for yourself. I had never seen any QP movies and this one was pretty damn good. Sure a little silly tension building but I think you’d have to with how goofy the aliens look. But manages to keep it straightforward. Plus it’s a short movie. Made me interested in the first two movies

The flashbacks in part 2 were more than enough that they needed to show us for what happened on the first day. Didn’t need a 2 hour movie about it that didn’t show anything new or different at all. Man what a letdown.

The irony is that the first 10 or so minutes of Part 2 when it first began was my favorite part of the film and I always said to myself, I wish they made an entire movie of that. Well, be careful what you wish for. I wanted Cloverfield and I got... Cloverfield Lane 10.

Should have done it i am legend style. Not a whole fucking movie. At the end of the day. Given the fact that humanity was wiped out by monsters with huge, very recognisable vulnerabilities.
It was a letdown. I wish we get a story regarding the point of view of a person in the military or even better a person from NASA. What did the satellite pick up before all these comets or whatnot fell on Earth? How much time did they have to prepare at least to pass the message to the military?
My cat is broken. We got him from the shelter like 10 years ago and he has never meowed once, he purrs when you pet him but that’s it. The other one we have never shuts up..
My cat is 8 years old, I have only heard her meow a handful of times till date. It’s completely alright lol

I don't care what you have to say, after seeing the first one in theaters there's no way I'd watch the sequel in one. Even if it was rated as the best sci-fi movie or whatever. Sitting in that theatre in total silence except for the sounds of the other people opening plastic wrappers and crunching away on their snacks had to be the aggravating theatre experience of my life lmao
I think this film was definitely a wasted opportunity to explore the beginning of the invasion. Id imagine it would take quite some time for people to figure out that they needed to stay quiet in order to survive, and this could’ve resulted in some pretty terrifying sequences as most peoples' initial reactions would’ve been to panic, scream, run, and make noise.
Imagine a scene in Madison Square Garden at a concert or sporting event in which the aliens entered the venue. You think people would be quiet as they rushed for the exits? And even if someone did somehow figure out that the aliens couldn't see and hunted through sound, how would they reliably and efficiently communicate this to a large group of scared, panicking, confused, boneheaded, and stubborn New Yorkers and/or Tourists who didn't all speak the same language?
I thought depicting this mass panic and inevitable confusion was the reason they chose to set the film in a bustling city like NY, which is infamous for being constantly noisy. But Sam gets knocked out literally at the beginning of the invasion and wakes up in a shelter with everyone already knowing to be quiet. This to me seemed like a missed opportunity to explore what the most intriguing part of the Day One premise was in my opinion - the initial mass panic and inevitable learning curve.
How did they learn what to do and organize so quickly? Sam couldn't have been knocked out for more than a day since the title implies that the film takes place in a 24 hour period. So the film deliberately skipped the initial learning curve almost entirely and therefore missed out on what could've made the movie intriguing in a unique way that the first two weren't.

Furthermore, do you disagree with my points? If so, why? Did you want a rehash of the first two films, just in a different setting? Did you not want them to utilize the "day one first contact" premise a bit more and explore the terrifying results of said premise? Or are you just being cynical? Like, how did a guy in the crustiest wheelchair live that long? And it was so dumb how they kept having the creatures go RIGHT UP to people. Like, yeah, they can't see but surely they could feel someone profusely BREATHING on them 0.0001 cm away from them?!
@@sosareneIt's pretty obvious when you're being hunted by an predator that making sound is a detriment to you, it's just logical. Plus the helicopters went around with speakers telling any survivors who for whatever reason didn't know, that they're attracted by sound.

This movie was a 2/10 max and I wanna know how much they’re paying you. It was boring and they didn’t do anything new. They tried to save the movie with a cat, le reddit pizza humor, and a terminally ill character that you DO NOT CARE ABOUT. They tried to redeem the movie by manipulating your emotions but it doesn’t work unless you’re a smooth brained viewer.
They kinda gave away they didn’t like it in the spoiler section. I think they hyped it up in the beginning cuz of the large portion of their audience that’s very sappy. This move was a great concept with terrible execution. I think they didn’t want blowback over a movie that will be forgotten in 2 months.

My Dune 2 experience was ruined by 2 freaking teenage girls that arrived 20 minutes into the movie, sat next to me and squeaked whenever Timothy Chalamet said anything.

@@baizuo_6246 there’s no much bad stuff to criticize about that film id long to write about it but i feel like people are so blinded by the visually and story telling they don’t see how awful some of the things i mentioned prior are. also zendaya’s character is nothing more than a high school love drama and she pouted when she didn’t get her man all to herself and not realizing a little romance wasn’t bigger then her ‘bf’s’ entire legacy and the millions that looked up to him as a god/leader. the whole love interest was nonsense.

Is nobody going to mention that they were a lot louder in this movie, from walking and running to whispering. The first one they walked on sand. I this one I heard footsteps the whole time.
By the rules of the first movie, everyone in both the sequel and the prequel would be dead. The rules in this world are extremely inconsistent and it took me out completely.
I mean the name of the movie is Day One, so why would they be doing any of that already? The first Quiet Place movie takes place way after this one.

"A Quiet Place Day 1 But Really Day 28"
That cut to black was such a shitty cop out.
I have a theory that an entire Djimon Hounsou storyline got cut from this movie. His character is entirely superfluous and serves almost no purpose. Essentially, just a cameo.
Aside from that, this movie was just okay. It reminds me of Civil War. It's really just a character drama set in the Quiet Place universe. You not gonna get much on what's happening or what's going on with the aliens or any kind of lore-building or interesting details about the invasion. You're really just here for 2 people getting to know each other in silence.
His character was just there to tie in with the 2nd movie wasnt it? Since he appeared on the survivor’s island and subsequently died.
Have people forgotten his main focus is in A Quiet Place Part 2? I think you along with the Angey Joe guys need to rewatch that movie.

This movie was terrible, absolute TRASH. Do not waste your money on this one, it's nothing like the original. There's so much wrong with this movie that I don’t even know where to begin. The main issue is the writing, it SUCKS, I mean why wouldn’t they explore the alien side of things, like what are they, where do they come from, and how were they able to overwhelm the most powerful military on the planet??? Nope, instead we got a movie about a cat and some pizza...GTFOH, horrible choices for actors as well, they made the guy into a whiny, crybaby while the woman was the strong, empowered hero! Collectively, we’re all sick of that!
One last thing, New Yorkers are armed up to the teeth, people would not be hiding like cowards while their loved ones, friends and neighbors are getting slaughtered, we would have fought back with everything we got, that's the movie I wanted to see, how we fight back and still loose!

How do the aliens know that's where the water is and know not to jump off the bridge?
Yeah the monsters in the second movie didn't know about water and jumped in and drowned. So this movie kind of breaks the second film, because apparently the aliens were smarter and aware of their vulnerability to water on day one, than they were on Day 474 when the ending of part II took place.

@@pain2573 They could literally play loud speakers on helicopters to lure the majority of them in each city to an area to get missile striked to death or do two massive waves to go and get nuked at each coastline.
My theater was quiet during the parts of the film that were quiet. But as soon as there was any noise within the film, people starting talking and/or loudly whispering to make up for not doing so during the quiet portions of the film as if this was ok. This definitely tarnished the experience for me
Problems with Quiet Place: Day One
1. Never expands or explains why the Aliens vist
2. 10 min. of mediocre massacre and then the rest of the movie is just a rewatch of quiet place 2.
3. Boring
I really liked this movie. My screening was somewhat empty which added to the experience.
Same. Had Friday off an saw a nice early matinee. Only 7 of us in the entire IMAX theatre. Best way to watch a movie.
The part where everyone was walking in a herd like sheep was definitely supposed to symbolize something since Lupita Nyong’o was walking opposite of them like a lone wolf

Movie was terrible. Ruined our day.
Also some people in comments thinking to deep about it. She is dying of cancer and wants a last meal at her favorite pizza place its her dying wish that's it. So she goes to get it she'll die of cancer or the monsters she doesn't care anymore. She didn't force for him to tag along but after she got her final wish sort of she helped him to escape. She was going to pass quicker anyway because she has no more meds and suffering in pain.

I found it disappointing because like you guys I was hoping for more of a military perspective. Plus it is quite strange how they learn quickly about sound and water and somehow they didn’t roll in the gunships like you said and then be able to wipe them out before the seemingly world domination since x amount of days pass with them still controlling the land.
It annoyed me how so much of this movie didn't understand how things in the movie should actually work, and that so many things that could establish some "rules" happened off screen, and so we just have to go with it. People just figured out to stay silent in a matter of hours just 'cause. If the escape was at the Seaport, why wasn't the military setting up noisemakers uptown in, oh say... Harlem? Or along the East or Hudson River and taking shots from boats? A walking trip from Chinatown to Harlem took 3 days just 'cause they had to tread carefully to avoid aliens, but we never saw them have to do that once. The cat was so incredibly quiet just 'cause. The bridges were blown, but we hear nothing about the tunnels in and out of Manhattan just 'cause. Cancer meds could only be found at the one pharmacy, even though Manhattan has a RIDICULOUS number of pharmacies on every block.
Just streamed it at home. Dodged a bullet by not seeing this turd in the theater. I would have been so mad walking out of that place.

movie screening was packed (I had low expectations) and I fell asleep for 30 minutes!!! I woke up to them singing in mime in a bar, and yet I still knew what the (anti)-climax was building up to... other people were also yawning, and because its a "quiet" movie, I could hear them. it was hilarious 😂 nothing happens, then the predictable happens... This movie was boring. Far more boring that the prior two. Didn't seem to add much to the overall plot either.
Where to begin? Our lead character is introduced, and oh boy, she's a real gem. By gem, I mean she openly declares she's unpleasant. Fantastic! Nothing like spending 100 minutes trying to muster some care for a self-proclaimed jerk. Then, we meet another character who sets new standards for annoyance. But hey, they had a cat. That was a nice touch. A cat that never makes a noise. Never knocks anything over or gets scared, goes swimming with you in city sewers and when it runs off when the city is being destroyed it magically finds its owner, over and over again. Ya know, just like cats in real life?
The cat got scared multiple times during the movie, wdym? I have a cat, she never knocks shit over, she doesn't meow around. Now take into account that it's a service animal that's obviously been trained to be well behaved.
I do agree however that plunging that cat into water multiple times is very unrealistic lmao. But the rest of what you said is nonsense
Plot Hole the monsters have great hearing for miles so put out alarms over deep water so they fall in drown. (dont get how there everywhere to bear everything but okay) Life back to normal 🙄🤣🤷♂️

This movie was a huge disappointment they exchanged jumpscares with loud noise in place of actual suspense built up by the story in the situations. On day one we should have been seeing the military fighting the aliens , we got none of that. What we got is one woman's story of walking halfway across town to get a slice of f****** Pizza, stupid Primus and bad writing. Also why was this movie so damn dark, why was there so much smoke, why were most of the scenes at night and why was every window covered with mud?? Bad movie , I warned all my friends to leave this alone

I fell asleep. It was nice, quiet and cool. On that recliner I was so comfortable I slept like a baby.
Well the cat is supposed to be an emotional support animal, so it is supposed to be trained. And it was attracted to eric because of the panic attacks, the cat knows he needs help, but yea it's super unrealistic lol
All i can say is I was really disappointed when i left the theatre. 💔👎

im looking forward to an entire universe very good world I want to see more. so much to expand on. attempts to fight back, uncontrollable people noises, disabled people, animals, man vs nature vs animals, group dynamics, how people turn evil, battle for resources, military, government strategies, dooms day preppers, other countries, life at sea on boats, and so so much more. Oh lol what about the people in space on the station seeing what they going through would be cool. I hope they keep going make it a netflix show you don't even need tho CGI that many monsters it can be about the people how they live survive and die in this world. I want this to be the new zombies. Im so excited for this.

Crap without John Krasinski vision. Thankfully he's doing Part 3. I cared nothing for the characters. The cat completely destroys any immersion. I love cats and have a certificate in feline behaviour. That cat would be gone straight from the start. What a stupid idea to have a cat just chilling the whole movie. It was a bad movie. 3/10
If the shows series was set in medieval times I would be able to believe this could happen and I think it would have been a little scarier.

I thought this movie was OK. 7/10 seems a little high. I’d probably go with a 6, maybe even a 5. It’s basically more of the same. I would like to see humans fight back in the next movie.
I usually agree with your reviews, i went yesterday to see the movie....man is a very very dumb movie, is not a good movie, i had a lot of great expectations and was a big letdown .....it was better choice to do it in a very little town instead of a big city with millions of people....didnt like a bit

I haven't seen it but I get what you're saying just based on the fact that is very common in fiction in general.
The term plot armor is commonly known for sure.
But that alone isn't an innately bad thing. Execution and context is everything.
There would be a lot of very short stories where the people died quickly or very boring stories where they don't do anything to get into dangerous situations.
I'm not dismissing your opinion just kind of thinking out loud about that kind of thing in general.
It most definitely can come off really dumb or end up making dangerous situations LESS exciting. That's where R.R. Martin really hit the nail on the head with the books and setting up danger in the first book which allows there to be fear during danger while still letting main characters survive.

this was supposed to be the movie about the origin of the aliens. But it doesnt explain anything about them or show how they get here. Did they come from underground? Did they come from a hole in the earth in antartica? Did they come from a giant asteroid? Are they used by an alien civilization as weapons for planet raids. Literally nothing is explained. the whole movie was terrible. The cat gets best supporting actor tho
I liked it but wanted more the-world-is-collapsing mayhem. So many apocalyptic movies focus on the aftermath, and I want to see more of how it all goes down at the beginning. Certainly, that would involve more special effects and a higher budget, though.

This prequel taking a break from the main story quiet place 1 and 2 reminds me of when telltale gave us the walking dead 400 days dlc and everyone just wanted season 2 to continue with the main story. I'm skipping this prequel and I'm going to wait for quiet place 3. I'm invested in the Abbot family. I passed on fast and furious Tokyo drift and I'll pass on this.🤷

I bought this when it was released digitally. I was pretty disappointed they cheesed out the "massacre phase" kind of aspect of a day one. I hate that they had Sam knockout and did a stupid time jump, and when she comes to, everyone knows to be quiet.
Fear the Walking Dead missed this opportunity too. I wanted to see a whole shit ton of random attacks at different parts of the city, random people being massacred, the military being overrun and torn apart.
Both of these films dropped the ball on that part, and that was a big part I was looking forward to for "prequel" movies.

Idk about woke. Sam just happens to be black, that's about it. And there's no romance in the film, the two just bond through trauma. That being said, yeah it was pretty bad.

Even that's not an issue, if it were Picket Fences - the Movie, not a horror movie that movie-goers come to watch for the thrills and suspense.

The movie should have been from the military's perspective. All out alien warfare. The first one was great, but if these things can't fly or swim then not only do we need the explanation of how they could ever take over the planet like that but it just would have been 1000% more entertaining than watching a dying lady try to get pizza.
They still can't provide an adequate explanation why our weapons and militaries don't just wipe the monsters out. I think that's why they never concentrate on military action, because it would be absolute idiocy.
Because the military would get overwhelmed with the amount of creatures involved, I'd imagine, and in the end, they'd have to resort to nuking entire cities to try to contain them.
Yeah, they did engage the Aliens, and once the evacuation was complete they probably would have.
Easy answers, too fast to hit, armor too durable to penetrate. Even if something like a 50 Cal could, the odds of hitting the thing are almost 0. And at that point, even if you connected, you’ve DEFINITELY alerted every other creature in that vicinity which opens you up to being overwhelmed. And all of this assuming you’re able to make a coordinated plan silently to get the drop on these creatures before they notice you.

A buddy and I were having this same conversation. Perhaps bodies of water reflect differently with their echo location and doesn’t reflect back like the other solid things around them. Maybe looks like a void that they know they should avoid. I wish we could’ve have seen that realization at the river as ppl were loading boats, and not broadcasted over a helicopter and shown in 1 scene. Surely there has to be a Learning curve for the aliens to know that swimming doesn’t work for them.

They make clicking sounds. They have some form of echo location. They aren't just mindless creatures, they obviously have some form of intelligence.
Water interacts with sound differently compared to physical objects. The only thing that's bullshit, is if they have echo location, why can't they sense humans that are right infront of their face. That's the real plot hole.
The aliens knowing where water is, is easily explainable lol.
I just started this movie and I'm already having problems with it. After the first scene with the aliens, she wakes up and everyone just knows what's going on. I guess the radio maybe told them but that "reveal" was a let down. The guy tried to turn off the generator, why turn it off? It already went loud, just stay the fuck away from it. Then all the people in a huge crowd like that....? No WAY I would join that crowd. You're just asking to die, if you lived long enough to still be alive then you'd know not to walk with a shuffling, coughing, heat score of a mob.... there were thousands of people walking together. I actually winced when a guy for no reason grabs her leg while she's under the car then screams for her to help him. That makes no sense, just crawl under with her and be quiet.

This was okay but it was basically part 2 to the second movie. The movie didn't make much sense Sam wants to die, gets scared before dying then makes more bad decisions to die. You learned nothing new and this is the 3rd movie. Plus people having their mouths covered but still trying to scream is dumb. Why did Sam have to be sick they could have definitely did something else (who was going to make the pizza during the apocalypse?😑😕 thats like during the apocalypse I say im going to Olive Garden for a capellini pomodoro)🤣

Wouldn't these creatures need to use eco location of sorts to navigate terrains if not they would just run into buildings and walls all the time they clearly know where objects are. So How would they not notice people moving around them even if they aren't making sound?
