Yeah, it makes us, veterans or lucky ones, special. But at what cost? New players getting confused and oblivious towards the story. Not gonna lie, I feel sad everytime I think about this.
I agree with this but over time I’ve began to realize that’s part of the magic when it comes to Destiny, just like real life, not every one was alive or around to experience certain events. A lot of New Lights don’t understand the significance of the black fleet being so close either, but we do. We get to share those experiences and stories with them and pass them down. @@bepisaxe4464I think the main problem of the Red War was the state of gameplay at the time i.e. The double primary meta, slow movement, ammo economy and most importantly, it's audience. For many D1 veterans, I can see why Ghaul would be considered a step down from some of the villains like Oryx, SIVA, etc. However, as someone who picked up the game just after the release of Forsaken after a friend begged me to get it so I could play with him, I was genuinely and truly captivated from start to finish by the Red War. I'd never even seen the Traveller before, but I could still feel the severity of it's absence and I enjoyed building my character up from scraps to finish the fight against Ghaul with a boss fight I enjoyed thoroughly. And while it may true that my nostalgia for those highs could be blinding me to the duller moments, it's something I wish new players could experience instead of the pathetic excuse for a New Light "Campaign" we have.
this is the type of mission I expected lightfall to have, but they didn't do it, I hope they will bring back the no light type of stuff with the final shape
I tried this game at the free weekend that taked place a week or two ago and that exact moment made me to buy this game instantly. I knew that this is only one story mission and probably rest of them won't be so epic, but pure magic that came to me from that one single moment in the game made me buy it against all odds. And maybe it is the fact that the rest of the main story missions (i didn't tried DLC's yet, because of rerolling to Hunter after completing it with Warlock) ain't so epic (maybe beside the one when you get back to The City on the rooftops etc.) but I definetly regret nothing :D And will gladly delete my Titan over and over again just to replay this mission (at this moment, I'm not much interested in that class).
This was by far my favorite mission in destiny. The music hits the feeling that you truly lost everything while fighting to stay a live. It’s a shame that the new players will never experience this gem
To think that even the Witness and Oryx wasn’t able to take out the city like this. Ghaul did what even the gods of the universe could not. The City was gone in one fell swoop. And not only that he was able to wield the light without the Traveler choosing him. Even if we absolutely demolished him in the campaign, we gotta give him credit where its due.
I remember on a September afternoon in 2018 after school I downloaded Destiny 2 because it was free for Playstation Plus that month. I downloaded it and started to play and right at 6:48 I started to cry and did lay down my controller for a while. In my opinion so far the best and most emotional scene/mission in a game I have played so far. The music, the view and the feeling of being powerless. At that moment I knew this was my game and I still play it often till this day. When I hear the Journey music I still get the chills.
Coming back to this now after Final Shape is just so different. This mission will always be one of my favorites even after the entirety of the Light and Dark Saga.
I have so much love for destiny 2 I know it’s not the greatest but no matter what I will love this game but it broke my heart when I first found out everything was gone I just turned on destiny one day after not playing for a while and my whole world changed in 1 second there was a new sub class and everything was gone destiny was such a big game that’s what I loved about it
Ghost: "I'm picking up an emergency broadcast. Rendez-vous coordinates. They're evacuating the planet... *We're on our own..."* Me, a solo player: *"Heh... Nothing new..."*
This mission and song were one of the most emotional, compelling and immersing story missions in any videogame i have ever played. The way it went from quiet, and ambient with the cabal patrolling to the emotional turn with starting a new journey was just beyond amazing. Its a shame that the base campaign (which was great in my opinion) along with this gem of a mission will forever be vaulted. It is truly one of my favorite memories
I never thought I would shred tears in FPS games especially in Destiny. But this mission is one emotional rollercoaster. And I'm glad I had a chance to be a part of it!
I hope that at the end of destiny 2's life, bungie will put all the content available in all the years that have passed. Even if the game occupies 200 GB to download! I would pay any price to be able to do everything in the game, play all the campaigns, know the whole story, do all the raids, get all the armor and weapons without the level difference. Such a good game! Such a good memories!
I feel as if bungie needs to go back to doing single player campaigns where these moments feel even more powerful. They really should do a new IP with the story akin to Halo reach and Dunkirk, where the player is constantly up against overwhelming odds with the only goal becoming just to survive and pray you can hold back the enemy long enough. I hope that they do something like that. And of course using epic music like this to set the tone.
Still boggles me that we can't play the ORIGINAL STORY that came with this game and was advertised for this games entire existence back when it first came out red war was everything. Now it's just a memory that we can look back on in bittersweet. I just wish the new lights got to experience this. The music, the ambience, the sense of being powerless and alone. It was perfect. No matter how much hate this game got this opening is still one of the best in gaming hands down.
Being a destiny 1 vet and not being able to play this mission again is such a gut punch. Getting to live to through D1 and then making it to destiny 2 and taking my veteran warlock through this mission is honestly one of those “holy shit” moments and it lit the way through D2!

The first time I play destiny 2 was during festival of the lost and manage to complete this mission before it was gone. Super super good music and everything around it, just perfect
Is funny how the music was supposed to start as soon as you reawaken in the plaza but the music starts at the exit of the city... it's a glitch but if I remember correctly either the designers or players (most likely players) liked it so much they just kept it that way.
I remember the red war like it was yesterday...the siva crisis, the birth of the taken, the beginning of the iron banner...the taken king, so many tales I could tell from destiny 1 and 2, but one thing I got out of it is to never loose hope
Seeing all this shit and how it connects to the future is really cool. The falcon, the voice of weak ghost being the same as the darkness talking through our ghost, lack of light/embracing darkness. Could be reading too much into it but its so cool
nah you have a point actually. that voice of weak ghost is the same one as when we were in the pyramid, and with the falcon in red war and hawk in the Hawkmoon quest
I remember when I returned to the new tower after waiting for a Destiny 2, It was..... Breathtaking beautiful Makes me want to become a Guardian one day in the future
I started destiny a little bit before beyond light, and i get the privilege to play this beutiful campain, the fact that the "vulnerability" is one of the first things you experience as a new light is so well made in this mission, and make u see that at the end of the day, we are just humans.
When i first played this story (in season 8), the two guns Shaxx gave you (common Origin Story and common The Last Dance) glitched and now i have them both to use anytime.
The nostalgia is crazy. I truly feel bad for new lights. They did not get to experience how good this campaign was. I been playing since destiny 1, but very casually. it was the red war that truly made me fall in love with the destiny franchise. Hell I even miss the farm sometimes lol
I think the sound design in battle is done incredibly well. The fact that all the gunshots and howls get echoed and distorted make me feel disoriented, like my Guardian's adrenaline is pumping. It's because, for the first time since being resurrected...they're afraid. Scared to die for good. Their heart is pounding in their ears because they've never entered a fight not expecting to win. Amazingly designed section for one of the best campaigns in Destiny 2.
I only played this on Hunter way back then, and we had our knives still. Super interesting seeing that Warlocks were reduced to punching since all theyr melee's use energy in a way

This part of destiny truly made you feel mortal. Especially after playing destiny 1.
this is the type of mission I expected lightfall to have, but they didn't do it, I hope they will bring back the no light type of stuff with the final shape
This mission is what made me start to actually play and learn more about destiny and here I am in love with it
The best mission in the campaign of destiny 2
It’s a shame that the new players will never experience this gem
bungie's most beautiful level
I come back to this video every year. They removed such an amazing mission
Bro I cried in the club
Coming back to this now after Final Shape is just so different. This mission will always be one of my favorites even after the entirety of the Light and Dark Saga.
Same, I also decided to replay the final mission using the broken armor as my cosmetic. Sad that the Red War will never be replayable.
*We're on our own..."*
Me, a solo player: *"Heh...
That shot of the traveler in chains and the city burning gets me every time
The red war campaign was honestly the best mission destiny 2 had to offer. I wish I could play it again.
This bring back so many memories when i came from school to play d2
I never thought I would shred tears in FPS games especially in Destiny. But this mission is one emotional rollercoaster. And I'm glad I had a chance to be a part of it!
This will always be my favourite moment from Destiny 2. Now I want to go and play it all over again after being inactive for ages.
And now you no longer can 😔
I hope that at the end of destiny 2's life, bungie will put all the content available in all the years that have passed. Even if the game occupies 200 GB to download! I would pay any price to be able to do everything in the game, play all the campaigns, know the whole story, do all the raids, get all the armor and weapons without the level difference. Such a good game! Such a good memories!
The subtle or I guess not so subtle detail of the smg being named sorrow is so good.
So sad the new light players didn’t get to experience this
Nor the Taken King 🥺
@@thepleiades6992 Anyone who goes back and buys destiny can play the taken king, but the red war is just gone.
It’s sad to think that the new lights will never play this story line with the release of beyond light and the destiny content vault
If they ever add Io an titan back (while edz and nessus are still existing) hope the red war returns too
@@SpeedWeed6969 Sadly I don’t think they will considering the fact that it would kind of mess up the destiny storyline
If only we got this feeling during lightfall
Super blessed to have played this......still have my damaged gear from year 1....
Same, never will dismantle it. ✊️
I wish we could get more gameplay in the city. It’s such a nice location
I wish at the end of the red war there was a memorial for all the lost guardians in the red war
Man I want to cry watching this I miss the old days of destiny I took a pretty long break from it and I came back and the game I loved was so much different I would do anything just to be able to enjoy the old days agian there was so much stuff and if I new more about what I was doing I wouldn’t have missed out on so much stuff it’s so sad
The first time I play destiny 2 was during festival of the lost and manage to complete this mission before it was gone. Super super good music and everything around it, just perfect
Ghost: We need to be VERY careful.
Me being the hunter I am: STAB EVERYTHING IN EXISTENCE DESPITE ME HAVING A LOW LIGHT LEVEL!
The best game music ever. Period
This scene alone was enough to make me a Guardian over 3 years
i coudnt hold my tears after all these years revisitng this moment
Seeing all this shit and how it connects to the future is really cool. The falcon, the voice of weak ghost being the same as the darkness talking through our ghost, lack of light/embracing darkness. Could be reading too much into it but its so cool
nah you have a point actually. that voice of weak ghost is the same one as when we were in the pyramid, and with the falcon in red war and hawk in the Hawkmoon quest
6:37 i stared at that mountain for minutes. it was so beautiful especially with the music in the background.
I was there 6 years ago.."Guardian... if you die... i can't resurrect you" Rest in peace lance, say hello to Cayde from up there :(
I remember when I returned to the new tower after waiting for a Destiny 2, It was..... Breathtaking beautiful Makes me want to become a Guardian one day in the future
Damn, I never remembered the falcon guiding you along. Really was a nice touch for one to guide you along in the final shape.
Even all these years later, I still have a screenshot similar tp 7:00 as my computer lock screen.
The most dangerous log bridge in gaming history. Ive died so many times on that thing.
Dude i got a super huge hit of nostalgia when the music started picking up.
I really fuckin miss red war
I started destiny a little bit before beyond light, and i get the privilege to play this beutiful campain, the fact that the "vulnerability" is one of the first things you experience as a new light is so well made in this mission, and make u see that at the end of the day, we are just humans.
I'm so happy to have experienced this at launch. If only new lights could share in it.
When i first played this story (in season 8), the two guns Shaxx gave you (common Origin Story and common The Last Dance) glitched and now i have them both to use anytime.
I remember playing this day 1 of the launch. Beautiful. Red War was something really
So sad for those guardians who have fallen they were probably scared
Goddam we didn't realise how good we had the story back then. Now we have just shit like Nimbus :(
The nostalgia is crazy. I truly feel bad for new lights. They did not get to experience how good this campaign was. I been playing since destiny 1, but very casually. it was the red war that truly made me fall in love with the destiny franchise. Hell I even miss the farm sometimes lol
I wish more games made missions like this where the music goes along with the scene 🔥
I liked this more than the final shape
I'll be honest. In terms of grandiosity, immersion and solo player friendliness, the Red War was the last of its kind.
desde do halo ce ate o destiny 2
I think the sound design in battle is done incredibly well. The fact that all the gunshots and howls get echoed and distorted make me feel disoriented, like my Guardian's adrenaline is pumping.
It's because, for the first time since being resurrected...they're afraid. Scared to die for good. Their heart is pounding in their ears because they've never entered a fight not expecting to win.
Amazingly designed section for one of the best campaigns in Destiny 2.
I still remember, on my first play-through, I fell down one of the ledges and after restarting the mission, the music had stopped. That was awful!
That’s how I fell in love with this game
When the Percussion kicks in
And you look to the Traveler
You realize.. and you feel..
We lost
I wish we could replay it some how again it holds a special place in my heart
I only played this on Hunter way back then, and we had our knives still. Super interesting seeing that Warlocks were reduced to punching since all theyr melee's use energy in a way
I hope Lightfall is as impactful as Red War and Forsaken were.
That aged like fine milk.. Hopefully; the Final Shape will be a great end to the Light and Darkness saga
@@ACapella5597 i hate this game man lmao
@@simpy6060 Ay TFS trailer dropped a few weeks ago, it looks very promising
@@ACapella5597lightfall sucks
I want this back 😢
i’m glad other people have an appreciation for the artistry of these moments
I love how the warlock melee is a weird punch.
Because warlocks are used to shooting an energy pulse, which they can no longer do.
Wow its been so long, I remember playing this on release day and now the light and dark saga is done. Time flew by.
Guardian: Falls thousands of feet without light and is dying.
Game: *500 ClAn eXp* !
i want red war back. it is the only legacy mission i will replay. not even forsaken. this is byfar my favorite pre shadowkeep campaign in d2
