Picking music is the hardest part of making these videos sometimes...so a few months ago I decided to try going without and see what happens. You're right though...they sometimes feel empty without it 😅 I'll have to think about it again.
Its called a skid plate, they are mostly only found on freestyle boards, and Im sure you already know that they protect the board from razor tail, but they also let the board slide on the ground better on some surfaces.

so true about the combination. Some people can make it work, but I always have to cycle it. When i'm a few days out from needing a new board, switch the shoes and shit.

ahh shoes first then a fresh deck? I think that's a pretty good idea--break them in and then get that fresh grip. Gotta do what works for you 😃
