Since you are not overlapping the vertical tile like bricks would it not be preferable to work from center and cut a tiny sliver from both the left and right side? This way you'll only be missing a tiny bit of the far left and right tiles which will not be noticed and not have a sliver left in the right corner. Downside being 16 cuts rather than 8 but no big deal with your stop block. Slivers are the enemy!
Soooooo... Anyone else notice how Mike was acting like a school girl around her? Do I smell a Modern Builds spin off channel coming featuring Mike and Rachel???
It was so painful seeing them back butter this whole wall... would have been so much easier and quicker if they just applied the adhesive to the wall and placed the tile into it.
My friend, i'm so sad... When you are doing tiling all you need is simple rule: 1) measure the wall 2) measure the tile 3) devide lenght of wall on a lenght of tile. Find how many full tiles you need.let's call this N. 4) take N-1 tiles and glue them from center to the corners. 5) in the end you will get simmetrical gaps in the corners. 6) cut 2 tiles and glue them in place. (Yes i know that it will take more tiles but in the end you will see nice wall without that nasty strips in the corner)
I think those tiles around the fixtures are likely to crack as you essentially made them very thin with a void behind by using that grinder. Also to cut all of the thin pieces together only works if your walls are perfectly plum. Often they are all slightly different due to misaligned walls. Finally you fancy her so bad 😂
Great video Mike! Did you try drilling a hole in a piece of wood with another same sized drill bit and then using that as a guide for the diamond hole saw? I've found it can be a really good solution to wobbly drill bits :)
Next time put a mastic on the wall and “back butter” each tile. Also start at the center and work out so you don’t have a odd skinny one on the end. Also the pump for the tile saw should go in a clean bucket of water. It’s not good for the pump to circulate dirty water. Decent job. But this will scream DIY at the end.
u don't have to put mastic on the wall AND the tile on a wall application like this. those tiles weigh next to nothing and will rarely ever get any wear due to pressure, unlike a floor application which WOULD benefit from adhesive on the tile and the substrate.
@@manit77 in italy we says that:" my cousin done that!"... it means that the job look's cool for the unskilled (to be gentle) but really the job is bad done. Ben true, although that doesn’t prevent it completely. But I was talking more about when he used the angle grinder to make the holes for the fixtures...
@@Boros777 oh yeah for sure with that angle grinder. i was just curious because i have a project coming up involving a wet tile saw and i didn't think i would need to wear a mask for that...but it can't hurt to be over safe
Ben you probably don‘t need to nad a bit stone dust isn‘t nearly as bad as say asbestos but can‘t hurt to stay safe and some of those textile masks cost only a few bucks...
Your suppossed to use the edge of the grout float. That works like a squeegie so the grout goes where its suppossed to and doesnt get caked everywhere.
You'd generally only have to water proof areas that can get wet and in a half bath you only have a toilet and sink. So no shower or bathtub to worry about, which can limit the area of concern to just the wall immediately behind the sink and the floor. Normally, something like a cement board would be used instead of drywall for the sink area but there are alternatives these days, like paperless drywall...
Before start you should measure and plan…. That 1” tile will scream “look at me” for ever….with correct size spacers or cutting tile each side will look better

Cool video, I have never seen title applied like this before. Thanks for showing a new technique I haven't seen before. Would like to hear a little more about the type of product you used to apply the tile and why? #TheMoreYouKnow #KnoweldgeIsPower
I don’t want to sound smart-ass ish. But these tiles are not gonna hold up for long. The reason why you put the adhesive to the wall and not the tile is that you want to bind any excess dust still on the wall. Anyways. Nice work still.
DJCastle Best practice is to first apply a thin coat of adhesive with the flat edge of your trowel onto the surface. This will avoid any dust messing up the result. If you apply the glue to the tile’s underside and then put it against the “dirty” wall/floor the adhesive might just pick up the dust and not really stick to the wall. I made the same mistake and had to redo an entire wall after tiles became loose and almost fell down. Plus applying the glue to the surface is way less messy. You gently press the “clean” tile in the bed of adhesive. And using spacers is highly recommended since drywalls tend to contract and expand on different temperatures causing the tiles to rub against each other in worst case. Made this mistake, too. No spaces between tiles looks great yes but in the long-term is causing you headaches IMHO. If you like a seamless look you should search for rectified tiles which normally have a sharper edge which means you can use smaller spacers. I hope this helps.
why you do not using any spacing between tiles? That's gross! Oh man and those holes for water pipes - please let tiles away and made something with wood.
Freaking hilarious! So, much wasted time on gluing up pieces individually. Plus you should make sure to center tye tile to the center of the wall. So pieces on the left side and right side are the same size!

Butter the wall and then back butter the tile. Buttering both is ideal.

No need to backbutter tiles that small, small amount of pressure pretty much guarantees 100% coverage
No spacers on the tiles? I have also never seen anyone put adhesive on the tiles.

Some subway tiles don't require spacers. They have little "tabs" to help keep them consistently spaced.
these tiles have built in spacers
Tile adhesive is very common and I'd say most people use it

when you measured the tiles to reach for the height of the ceiling, do you account for the space/grout between each tile?
Use some respiratory protection when grinding on that stone - stone dust isn't too great for the lungs...

Am I the only one who’s brain hurts from looking at vertical subway tiles?
did she prefer the straight line look instead of offset? you typically offset subway tiles that size.
I like the project & I like her
I would try using painters tape to tape off the tiles so you only grout the grout lines, I would think there would be less cleanup.
Just wondering if there's a reason why no spacers were used between the tiles?
This type of tile has "nubs" on the edges that space the tiles for you.
This is just drywall? No waterproofing?
Toshiyuki Takamatsu it sure looks like it. They really need cement board.
its not gonna have a shower or anything its just a powder room
