  • In this video we make some sturdy storage shelves for our new hunting room in the basement. They were easy and inexpensive to build. We love cheap products! Even though we used lumber that we made from our Woodland Mills Sawmill, these shelves could still be made with lumber from your local store. These shelves are very strong and spacious. We love them! Thanks for watching another Collins Country video.

These are my notes - The long vertical boards create the structure because they are plumb and the long screws will do the work to keep it plumb.
All the horizontal long boards are secondarily screwed into these vertical boards (instead of the other way around since gravity goes down). The most maneuverable side, the short side, can be done on the ground to help be plumb (looks like a ladder that is heavy on one side). After this, the first horizontal long board to connect the ladders should be checked that it is level after screwing in. Every horizontal board and vertical board connection takes two not perfectly placed long screws.
The vertical long boards will hide the board connections in the inside corner. If doing weird angles, then draw manually in the space with a pencil. Using angles is a good way to deal with tight spaces.
To prevent tilting/add more structure/make permanent, the horizontal boards can be screwed into the studs behind. If doing it this way, then do the horizontal boards first, since now the main (vertical again) structure is coming from the house. Next do the smaller horizontal long boards that come away from the wall, which will meet the (only front facing) vertical boards and other horizontal long boards until connected in center.
10:30 When joining three pieces of wood together in this center, can put the angle on only one horizontal long piece at the sacrifice of some sturdiness. 11:48 Next, for the inner support that comes from the wall, instead of dealing with the middle angle, use two horizontal long boards on opposite sides of the angle (so they don't need angles themselves). For this inner support, chose one side to be closer to the angle, so one of the flat boards will have something better to attach to. Also if anchoring to wall, then skip the bottom layer of horizontal long board.
Last, the horizontal plywood flat boards are screwed into the front and back and corners of the horizontal long boards (screws going downwards), either at the ends or a foot between screws otherwise.

I was so excited when I seen that y’all had posted another video. Thank for sharing these ideas with us.
My husband and I are getting ready to ground break on our house that we are building. We are hoping to do it without going into a lot of unnecessary debt. Any tips or thoughts on that to help us along the way? Thanks in advance 😊

Hey! Congrats on the incredible journey you are about to start on!!!! :) Money saving tips- We could talk about this for hours (literally), but we will keep it brief:) Do as much of the build with your own hands as you can. Saving on labor costs is always a big way to cut down costs! Also- watch the lumber prices. They go up and down a lot. Buy the wood when it is cheap (those prices change daily and vary from store to store). Take your time. If you rush and have to fix a big mistake then you have to waste more money on new supplies and the time to fix it... It is always better to take your time and do it right the first attempt:) When finishing the inside- shop around! We got a lot of items off of facebook marketplace, resale shops, warehouses, etc. You can do it! Don't get discouraged:) Let us know if you have any specific questions that we can help with and please keep us posted with your build. Good luck and God bless! Lastly- we prayed daily for our safety when building this house. This is VERY important. Everyday God is Good. God is good everyday:)

Also- get numerous quotes from contractors for the projects you won't be doing... Some of our quotes for the same job would vary by over 10k!!!!!
