Thank you so much!! You have actually answered one of the questions that had bothered me since 7th grade. The 5 degree is something no one has even told me. I had driven my teachers mad asking why doesn’t earth block the moon every month. Thank you 😊❤
ok ... then during a non-eclipse new moon the sun, the earth and the moon are not actually aligned in a straight line. The Moon is sitting 5 degrees above the plane. Why then confuse us by saying new moon happens when the three are aligned?
I am more confused now. What you're calling a new moon is occurring on the side of the planet that has light hitting it. How do people take dark images of the moon? I thought the new moon was when the earths shadow was cast upon it. This isn't making sense to me.....
Yeah, I think your confusion stems from your misunderstanding of what causes lunar phases. The next time you see the moon out during the day, get a ball and hold it up in sunlight so that the ball blocks your view of the moon. What you will see is that the "phase" of the ball will be the same as the phase of the moon. The lunar phases are not caused by Earth's shadow, but simply by the angle at which the sunlight strikes the moon as viewed from Earth. The sun is 93,000,000 miles away, so the angle between the sun, the moon and your eyes is virtually the same as the angle between the sun, the ball and your eyes. So, a new moon is when the entire side of the moon facing Earth is in shadow, because it is being lit from the opposite side - so the sun would be on the opposite side of the moon, so to us here on Earth, the sun and moon look very close to each other, so it is always daytime during a new moon.
@@willoughbykrenzteinburg thanks for the explanation, angle at which sunlight strikes the moon - does it essentially not imply a solar eclipse? Can you kindly suggest on the difference between the monthly moon phases and solar/lunar eclipse. Appreciate your response
@@madhurichandra506 The moons orbit is tilted by about 5 degrees relative to the plane the Earth orbits the sun in. There are two times that the moon crosses this plane on each orbit. Most of the time, the moon is not lined up with the Earth and sun when this happens. Similarly, there are two times on each orbit that the moon is lined up with the Earth and sun. Most of the time, the moon is too far above or below....by up to 5 degrees to give us an eclipse. Every once in a while, we get a new moon or full moon (moon lined up) at the same time the moon is crossing the ecliptic, and we get an eclipse. If it happens during a new moon, we get a solar eclipse. If it happens during a full moon, we get a lunar eclipse.
Strange... I just did a Google image search of "new moon" and not 1 of the images that popped up was during the day. Must be a conspiracy or something.

Hard to pay attention to the explanation with that overwhelming beauty, but I succeeded in the end. Thanks for the video

Me too🤩
as a university student, I'd give this video 71% thus, not well explained
Hi madam.. can you please explain a little bit deeper ?
1:23 what do you mean by 5 degrees heigher. Does orbit of moon also moves up and down to make lunar eclipse and full moon day??
Watch Jared Owen video on solar n lunar Eclipse

Thank you! Had to search so much to find this information.
I've watched this 3 times now and still haven't learnt a thing, not because she's a bad teacher but because she's a great teacher
I understand.

Thanks for the info...
Hi ma'am..
I have a question ...
When any partial lunar eclipse happen then why that partial part did not appears red as full lunar eclipse appear
Well explained! kudos
Nice! Well Explained!
so if the full moon is 5 degrees higher.. whats moving 5 degrees during an eclipse? the Earth or the moon?
+Montre Bible Nobody knows :)
Thank you

Yeah explaining this 3D issue on a 2D surface wasn't a good choice.
Good.. You got the point...
thank you but lectutre is bit small to explain this topic perfectly.
do moon's orbit is parallel to equator ?
thnx
I have question, why do lunar eclipses happen only on full moon days?
Finally, I know. Thanks
Wow now I get it, thanks!
okay, if a new moon is between the earth and the sun, then how do we see a new moon when it's nighttime (facing away from the sun)?
New moon doesn't mean shadow of earth on illuminated face of moon, it means we see the face of moon in night which isn't facing sun.
Thanks mam
Thanku
thanks :)
Omg thank so much .
Now what's the difference between a solar eclipse and a new moon
very nyc ..
Nice

Earth's shadow has NOTHING to do with moon phases.

If moon comes between earth and sun for this new moon occurs..then why dont we call it solar eclipse?
